Scotland/Sturgeon

Sturgeon is Scotland's First Minister in a devolved Parliament. She wouldn't be doing her job if she didn't do what she's thinks as right for Scottish voters. Scottish MPs have already been stopped from voting on English laws, so the argument that Scotland is part of the UK is a bit thin, when the country is treated as a second-class member.

Yes, but what she wants, and what she can have, are two different things.

The thing is, Scotland is part of the UK, plus there were those that voted to leave there as well ( not as many obviously) all the UK votes count together.

I notice that leavers are adamant that we must leave because that's the majority decision, but Nicola Sturgeon is castigated for wanting to stay in when that's the majority decision in Scotland.

What she said in the interviews I saw was, in effect, that as Scotland voted to remain, there should be no question of having to reapply if we never choose to opt out. She made no threats and made no demands. She simply said that she will investigate all possibilities including indyref2 and will decide when it's clear what's the best route for Scotland if and when it's clear what the Scottish people want. It would have been more exciting and she would have been an easier target if only she'd been less calm, logical and reasonable!
Never mind, once Boris, Nigel and Mike get over their initial panic and cobble together some plan or other there will be lots to get folks worked up.
Pity the rest of them (incl and George & co) bolted and ran for cover!

Sturgeon is thinking of the greater good for Scottish voters. The majority voted to remain and are being dragged out by England.

It's her own fault for rushing into a statement, she should have sat back and let the dust settle.Would the EU want an independant Scotland anyway.

Nicola Sturgeon , as Scotland is still part of the U.K., get UK on track, before negotiating another out for Scotland campaign. You have to think of the greater good,not rerunning her vendetta, we are where we are and must make a success of it, then when things are on track, have the vote, if they want out so be it, as long as they want no cash from England and are self funding.

Nicola Sturgeon is in a difficult position, and on reflection, I guess (like a lot of other politicians), wishes she had done a 'Teresa' and sat a little more on the fence (not betrayed her principles, just not been quite so vocal and adamant re remain). She was interviewed this morning and she appeared uncomfortable when questioned about whether she would attend Brexit discussions with EU (damned if she does, damned if she doesn't) but, they can't stay in when the UK goes, if they are still in UK. So she will have to request another Scottish referendum (with the permission of UK P.M) then apply (re apply, theoretically) to EU (difficult, and they'd have to have border controls and fences and whatnot). Don't envy her.

A certain Scot I know thinks thatEnglish folk will soon want to emigrate to Scotland so he is offering elocution lessons to folk needing to learn how to speak with a Scottish accent. He thinks that there might be a test when you get to the border.

He is charging 20 Euros and no, you can't pay in £s as they will soon be worthless.

Given that the revenue stream of an independant scotland would be significantly depleted, could they afford it? I don't think she even wants another referendum yet, until she can be absolutely certain they'll get the result they want.

It was on the cards with such a close vote. Wise to take advice and test the water. They want a decisive victory one way or the other and not a divisive one.

Given that the whole of Scotland voted by a large majority for Remain, she'd be failing in her job if she didn't make enquiries about that.

Probably. Everyone is moving quickly now. Except the Brexiters. They are probably behind closed doors scratching their heads.
