Being blamed

I can honestly say that in making vote my only consideration was for the future of my children and grandchildren which meant I voted against my own concerns. Anybody else insulted by the blame our generation are getting for the result of the vote?

I think she'd just better get on with her referendum quick!

Elegran Sun 26-Jun-16 12:33:04

Nanasam Here is a list of MEPs in the UK and their constituencies,
www.europarl.org.uk/en/your-meps.html

Which one is yours? What did you do with the letter telling you last time they were standing for election and inviting you to vote?

Beaking news.

Nicola Sturgeon says the Scottish Parliament could stop the UK leaving the EU. Anyone got anything on this.

durhamjen Sun 26-Jun-16 12:21:36

Where do you live, nanasam? Farage is one of the Brussels bods that some people voted for. So is Daniel Hannan, both of whom are turkeys voting for Christmas.

Just been watching the local news, where a Ukipper said that it was Ukip that won the referendum, particularly in the North.
I feel quite angry about that, particularly as the EDL were parading in Newcastle yesterday, the only part of the North East that voted to remain.
Why choose Newcastle instead of Sunderland, where they voted to leave? To crow and stir up foment.

No bullying nana but has it occurred to you that you have been told lies?

durhamjen Sun 26-Jun-16 12:15:21

We had sovereignty. All EU countries are sovereign states. We have a queen. She is our sovereign, although we do not elect her, so your reasoning is shaky there.
We voted for the Brussels bods.

nanasam Sun 26-Jun-16 12:09:44

I voted out for sovereignty, daphnedill. I don't like being told what to do by a load of faceless, unelected Brussels bods. I also fear for the EU when Turkey, Kosova, Croatia, Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia and others standing in the wings are admitted. Please don't bully me, these are just my views!

Beammeupscottie Sun 26-Jun-16 12:03:01

Nanasam.

No we will not work together. This is serious not a game and the bitterness will last for generations and split families. Thank God, I voted with and for my children and grandchildren, not for a country that want to go back to the past.

daphnedill Sun 26-Jun-16 12:01:10

Why did you vote out, nanasam?

silverlining48 Sun 26-Jun-16 11:57:49

interesting cornergran small cohort, but yes, informative.

daphnedill Sun 26-Jun-16 11:57:22

How is it left-wing populism?

I agree that it's cruel, but it's not left-wing and it's certainly not the cause of right-wing populism.

You should take a trip round the internet and see some of the language which has been used against Remainers. If it's still there, have a look at Jo Cox's Facebook page for a start. Bing accused of being 'over 65' is very mild in comparison.

nanasam Sun 26-Jun-16 11:57:10

I voted out, but don't feel at all satisfied or happy. In fact, I am close to tears with all the vitriolic bullying, hate and haranguing that has come from a large section of the Remain camp. We are supposed to be a democracy and people are carrying on like spoilt kids who are not getting their own way. Can't we all band together to make it work?

durhamjen Sun 26-Jun-16 11:55:47

Cameron definitely has a mandate for having a vote about it in parliament. He is stil the PM.

durhamjen Sun 26-Jun-16 11:54:06

Sorry about that. I forgot for a moment. It's not about me and my family.

whitewave Sun 26-Jun-16 11:54:00

Just spoke to two outers who said they hoped that there is another referendum as they will vote remain!!!!!!!!!

That's always the danger when people are lumped together as one group, whether they be pensioners, teenagers, Muslims, Poles or whatever.

Indeed so. And saying such things as that over 65s or whatever 'lost' a vote for you (that is a general you) should not be allowed to vote is the kind of left-wing populism that I've been talking about on another thread. Completely intolerant. Essentially it's saying, when people disagree with me, they should shut up/be prevented from speaking. There's a lot of it about.

The proportion of young people who voted is relatively small. They need to look to themselves rather than blaming others.

durhamjen Sun 26-Jun-16 11:52:56

I agree, daphne. I think they are hurting as a family. I was there to represent the older generation.
However, going on Gransnet figures, about 60 wanted to stay, and 90 wanted to leave, so it's right, no matter how many of us voted with him. I say him because his partner did not have a vote even though she has lived here for over 20 years. If you believe Daniel Hannan, EU migrants will also have their right to vote in local elections taken away from them, too.

pennturner Sun 26-Jun-16 11:50:25

In a democratic secret ballot how does the press know who voted what?

cornergran Sun 26-Jun-16 11:49:33

I spent time with 11 people aged under 30 yesterday, none had voted. They are all well educated and come for a variety of backgrounds and political persuasion. Not making judgements, just sharing the information.

Sheilasue Sun 26-Jun-16 11:47:17

We need a badge that said I voted to remain in.

daphnedill Sun 26-Jun-16 11:36:10

dj, That's always the danger when people are lumped together as one group, whether they be pensioners, teenagers, Muslims, Poles or whatever.

Maybe people on Gransnet (and some other sites) will remember how they felt next time they moan about teenage mothers or young people wanting everything, etc. Some of them do; some don't.

durhamjen Sun 26-Jun-16 11:34:21

She's going to see lots of changes; just not the ones she wanted, perhaps.

daphnedill Sun 26-Jun-16 11:33:28

What change did you want, Ceesnan?

whitewave Sun 26-Jun-16 11:33:15

When you return ceesnan Can you find time to answer my question as to what change you wanted to see please?
