Shock exit from Boris!

Mr and Mrs Gove made sure the e mail was leaked that threw HER doubts about Boris just so they could feel justified in their own righteousness and stab the poor guy in the back. Certainly would not support Gove as leader of anything if that is how he carries on. We all know politics is a game but come on at least play fair. Looks like Theresa May is in the lead at present but watch out for the stalking horse Liam Fox!

Oh! No! he allowed his "friend" to sit in on stuff when he was a minister. His judgement is definitely questionable. We've had enough of dubious politicians.

Bet the other 27 EU nations would rather negotiate with a Remainer than an out and out Leaver. Theresa May it is then.

It is not at all surprising. Though Boris is a complete snake he is very clever and realised he did not want to be in charge with the chaos to come. Knowledgeable columnists were pointing out from the day after the referendum that he seemed less than pleased. He probably thought that remain would win and he could slide easily into Cameron's shoes. Mind you, as someone who has worked in education and health I think Gove is particularly loathsome so deep depression continues!

Gove was also not expecting to win....according to his wife.

Considering the serious state of the country,the past week has seen seen appalling behaviour from politicians who were elected to do their utmost for us all.
Cameron made a statement that he would remain in his post until the next general election,and see through talks if we were to leave the EU.

Johnson and Gove plotted their own futures at our expense.
Thankfully Johnson has gone.
A week ago Gove declared that he was not up to the job of PM,so where has his new ability come from.He is a snake and not fit to run the country.

Theresa May is the most sensible and diplomatic of them all.
I think her election may be the making of a very good politician.

Labour need to sort themselves out pronto.

I understand that Boris fully intended to stand and his speech was written for that purpose. He only changed his mind and the end of the speech when Gove put out his statement and people started leaching over to Gove. Boris was expecting Gove's support, not to stand against him. I do think Boris will be glad not to have the responsibility of sorting out Brexit though.

I can't see how anyone could ever have believed in Boris as prime minister or gove for that matter, how either could stand by that bus which was deliberately deceitful I don't know. Loads of people believed it. I agree that they didn't expect to win then boris could slip into the driving seat.
My money's on Thersa May for next PM, she was sensible enough to keep out of the referendum mainstream. I'd rather have a new referendum since the last was fought on misinformation and a new general election, since the last was also fought on misinformation (i.e. tax credits) and see a Labour PM, I don't mind who.

Oh Bonkers Boris says its a conspiracy now does he? No way! He's a cad and a bounder. He enjoyed himself smashing up all the toys in the playground and now he runs away leaving the mess behind him, like the coward that he is.
Throughout the campaign, you could read on his face that he was just having a laugh, a few free beers and some ice cream. And he got to ride round in a big red bus - STUPID BOY!
How anyone could believe in him is beyond me. I dont suppose he has grandchildren yet to whom he would need to explain why he wrecked their future.

I think its shown politics up in a very bad light. I happen to admire and respect Boris Johnson and I think he would have made a great Prime Minister and led our country to new heights. I hate to think that he's the victim of a calculated plot by Michael Gove with possibly George Osborne as a co-conspirator but that seems to be what has happened and its a very shabby business. I know the Leave vote was achieved by a slim majority but we do still live in a democracy and its the view of the majority that counts. We should start pulling together in the same direction and getting our country back on its feet again.

What exactly does " pulling together in the same direction mean?" Agreeing to policies that are divisive , intolerant and economically ruinous? No, 48% didn't want this turmoil and we aren't going to support it.

I agree - Gove is not to be trusted - it was obvious Boris was really devastated - Gove comes across as a really unpleasant human being. I know that Boris can be a clown and does sometimes do/say the wrong thing but who doesn't? I do hope that this is not the end of his political career - at least he has some character about him unlike the arrogant despicable back stabbing weasel Gove.

I meant to stop the squabbling about the rights and wrongs of the leave decision suzied and sorry because I probably didn't express myself very well. I am getting fed up with the negative comments on social media from some (not all, I know)of those who voted to remain in the EU - even to the point where they're wondering now if the decision can be reversed or ignored in some way. I know it must be disappointing but surely we can all accept a democratic decision and just get on with it, with a Prime Minister at the helm we can trust. I so agree with Janelle that the media should stop fuelling panic and that we need to settle down. Onwards and Upwards, as they say!

I have never trusted Boris Johnson. He is a serial liar and a chancer. Max Hastings, who knows him well, did a hatchet job on him in the DM this morning. The article added substance to all the doubts I had always had about him and I understand Lord Heseltine said much the same on radio. Neither of those has anything to gain from who ever succeeds Cameron as next Prime Minister.

I hold no brief for Gove but anyone would be better than Johnson. He can return to his womanising and journalism.

I think Gove has shown himself to be a thoroughly unpleasant piece of work. Who'd vote for him now?

Let's not get too carried away about Theresa May. She is no moderate humanitarian. In fact, she is politically to the right of Boris. She was the person responsible for the "Go home" posters aimed at migrants, she has made a number of anti-immigration speeches were have played their part in inflaming the current racist atmosphere that pollutes our communities today, and she wanted to take us out of the European Convention for Human Rights. She was also responsible for the £35,000 per year earnings requirement for migrants who have lived here for more than 5 years. That is going to hit a lot of Europeans working, for instance, for the NHS, when the UK no longer belongs to the EU and they lose their right to live here.

I think she'll win but I have a feeling of dread, particularly when someone said she would be "a second Mrs Thatcher." Oh, my God...Not that any of the others are any better.
