GO has resigned from the government
Philip Hammond appointed Chancellor

I too think Boris will surprise us. May even surprise himself. He just needs to take his hands out of his pockets, smarten up and get on with it. Despite his Joker image, I think he's a fairly smart cookie. Only time will tell ...

And he's got a history of being very undiplomatic, spends a lot of time apologising to people.

I think TM is starting how she means to go on: boldly, with a sock it to 'em attitude. I'm rather enjoying it and hope it continues.

Here's a prediction I may come to regret: you never know, Boris may even surprise us in a good way. As TM said, he can speak French and he's strong on history.

Wilma grin good one!

Anya Thu 14-Jul-16 06:58:31

Brilliant move giving Boris that post. Let the hard-headed Fox and Davie do the negotiating and Boris undo Farage's 'you're not laughing now' damage. Just the man for the genial approach.

suzied Thu 14-Jul-16 06:42:17

Boris's job will be to host cocktail parties, not to do any negotiating, as she's got Fox and Davis to do that . Let's hope he spends a lot of time in Abu Dhabi.

WilmaKnickersfit Wed 13-Jul-16 22:56:32

Indeed.

Just read a comment on the DM website

Hammond and May - when is Clarkson coming back? grin

merlotgran Wed 13-Jul-16 22:51:53

Sarah Vine's next DM column could be interesting.

That's if she still has a job.

Galen Wed 13-Jul-16 22:48:11

I suspect she knows he'll write himself off

WilmaKnickersfit Wed 13-Jul-16 22:47:33

I can't even begin to imagine how the conversation went daphne! shock Did laugh about the water cannons though. grin

Wonder what the atmosphere is like in the Gove household tonight? Sarah Vine's next DM column could be interesting. wink

daphnedill Wed 13-Jul-16 22:30:44

I would have loved to have been a fly on the wall when May gave BJ the job. I wonder if she warned him to behave himself...and not to buy any more water cannons.

It's quite a clever move, because he was going on about all these fantastic new deals we'll have. Now he's going to have to negotiate them! And he probably won't have much time for his journalism.

Gracesgran Wed 13-Jul-16 22:14:29

We could take bets on how long he will be there ...

JessM Wed 13-Jul-16 21:58:10

This reads like "We loved every moment of your stay in the Big Brother House and here, Boris, are you best bits: www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/7-reasons-boris-johnson-probably-8416540

There is also the theory that she will send him on a LOT of foreign trips.

Jane10 Wed 13-Jul-16 21:46:05

Back benches for Gove I hope!

JessM Wed 13-Jul-16 21:45:42

Sounds ideal quality in an FS NanKate -"he doesn't care what he says"
Twitter is full of comments on BJ's appointment - some of them funny. Rude things he has said about the president of Turkey (goat F****er), Hilary Clinton, etc and:

"The last time Boris Johnson negotiated with the Germans he came back with 3 second hand water cannons."
And of course he was stopped from ever using this purchase by the Home Secretary herself.

Gove? I don't think so. No love lost there at all.

NanKate Wed 13-Jul-16 21:26:56

I look forward to seeing how Boris copes with his new job. He makes me laugh, doesn't care what he says. I like him. Whether he can step up to the plate and become Foreign Secretary I am not sure.

I wonder what will happen to Gove, maybe he will be put out to pasture,

Jalima Wed 13-Jul-16 21:15:54

GO has resigned from the government
You read it here first grin

(did he go before he was pushed?)

JessM Wed 13-Jul-16 21:00:27

She didn't want to let Boris off the hook maybe? Give him even more rope so that he can finally finish the job? Hardly Mr Diplomatic. The civil servants in the FO must be horrified.
Doesn't look like there was any more than speculation in the idea that she was going to appoint more women. Glad Amber Rudd is away from environment.
Glad Osborne has gone.

Alima Wed 13-Jul-16 20:45:58

Thank you Gracesgran. Hope she carries on where TM left off.

Granny2016 Wed 13-Jul-16 20:40:02

I was hoping to see David Davis in the cabinet...a very sensible politician and excellent choice to deal with Brexit.
Not surprised to see Amber Rudd as Home Secretary, another tough woman.
Not too sure about Boris, but hope he steps up to the mark.

Gracesgran Wed 13-Jul-16 20:38:10

Liam Fox International Trade Secretary

Gracesgran Wed 13-Jul-16 20:20:18

I have only heard good words about Amber Rudd Alima but those only from Conservatives. If it was her that said that about Boris she goes up in my view. He is really going to have to work at this now.

Gracesgran Wed 13-Jul-16 20:18:23

Brexiters having to deal with Brexit - clever.

Gracesgran Wed 13-Jul-16 20:15:37

David Davis appointed Secretary of State for Leaving the European Union

varian Wed 13-Jul-16 20:14:57

Wasn't it Amber Rudd who said she wouldn't trust Boris to drive her home after a party?
