Are Gransnetters just vicious online trolls?

Well, we are apparently a bunch of bullies on this site:

www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-3689188/The-vicious-online-trolls-grannies-according-fellow-gran-crossed-unleashed-spite.html

Some poor innocent (who is media savvy enough to get an article published in a national newspaper) is in a state of shock after posting on Gransnet. A whole page in DM basically complaining that she posted on an internet forum and is shocked that not everyone found her as witty and amusing as she clearly thinks she is.

Shame on you grannies for upsetting the poor little flower! On the bright side though, she did manage to get her article published, so that was probably a nice little earner for her.grin

My apologies Jingl - it wasn't you just some of the others but how the thread has morphed into this I can't quite follow.
Sincerely sorry to hear about all your current woes, I do hope you get your break and if you can get to Nice, there is no need to feel guilty, as I said the local hotels and restaurants stand to lose their livelihoods if the tourists shun them.

Not sure about your sackcloth and ashes comment though maggiemaybe -fiddling while Rome burns springs to mind, but each to his or her own.

Well said, Maggie

jings has always been a bit of a GN sleb. Long may it last.

Maggiemaybe Fri 15-Jul-16 21:42:58

No, DaphneBroon, quite a few of us might have made the tail end of it "all about jingl". Because we are having a bit of fun and because we like her.

And because if we all don sackcloth and ashes when something tragic happens, we may as well give up, because the people who want us to be miserable have won.

GandTea Fri 15-Jul-16 21:42:28

The tragedy has happened, we can do nothing about it apart from sympathising with the bereaved. We can do something about the here and now. lets concentrate on making that better. Other wise those poor sous will have died in vain.
Jings, not sure what has gone astray with your holiday, but try to look at the best parts of it.

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 15-Jul-16 21:21:48

Don't get me wrong there. My holiday as such is unimportant. The dreadful tragedy is the worst of it.

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 15-Jul-16 21:20:41

I've already said how trivial this is in the light of Nice. Noth bothered at all about being a celeb anywhere. My cousin is dying. I'm not in the best of health. My holiday has turned into a trip into the mouth of hell. I can't get much l;ower.

DaphneBroon Fri 15-Jul-16 21:15:27

I agree, somehow Jingl has presumably inadvertently made this "all about me" - I thought it was about telling a so-called blogger what we thought of her pathetic attempt at either humour or stirring up some sort of Royalist reaction.
In the bigger picture, it is all very trivial sad

MiniMouse Fri 15-Jul-16 20:56:38

jings as you're becoming a bit of a GN sleb how about going on I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here? It would get you off the norty step and you'd liven things up a bit grin

Christinefrance Fri 15-Jul-16 20:26:12

Time to call a halt to this don't you think, in the light of events in Nice our hurt feelings really are not important.

Galen Fri 15-Jul-16 20:18:24

Jing do you have pearls like mine? ( see soops kitchen)

madamecholet Fri 15-Jul-16 19:38:22

It may not have been a member Phoenix, as anyone with access to the internet can read the posts.

FarNorth Fri 15-Jul-16 19:36:17

The OP who had such a terrible reaction from granny-trolls had posted a silly piece ridiculing people s/he surely knows nothing about.
So that set the tone for replies.

Blinko Fri 15-Jul-16 19:33:24

Lully, imo there's very little that's 'not for sneering at in the DM'. That's what the DM does.

whitewave Fri 15-Jul-16 19:30:19

Blimey! phoenix there are some real charmers on here aren't there?

phoenix Fri 15-Jul-16 19:23:46

Although not abused or trolled on here, some lovely member saw fit to print off a thread and send it through the post to my boss, obviously hoping that I would lose my job as a result!

Maggiemaybe Fri 15-Jul-16 19:21:18

Actually, that picture looked remarkably like my grammar school headteacher. If I hadn't read her obituary, I'd have been scared.

Katek Fri 15-Jul-16 19:16:54

Lol! grin

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 15-Jul-16 19:11:18

#pantsonfire

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 15-Jul-16 19:11:03

Yes.

Katek Fri 15-Jul-16 18:23:39

There was once a photo of Jings on a thread and since then I have seen a smart lady on an advert who looks remarkably like her. Are you moonlighting as a 'mature model' when you're not posting on here Jings?!? Hope you've managed to sort out your holiday. smile

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 15-Jul-16 18:19:55

Well, I hope GNHQ reads some of this. They might let me off the norty step. smile

Leticia Fri 15-Jul-16 17:56:14

I think that you have to allow for the fact that you have no idea who reads things that you post online. Gransnet is no different from anywhere else and you will get people who are forthright and tell things as they see them.
I can't see the fuss about that, the Daily Mail must have been short of news. I didn't see the original and probably wouldn't have bothered to comment. Obviously she thought it funny- personally I thought it rather unkind and unnecessary and very divorced from her actual backgrounds.
Cliques, if there are any, don't bother me- I have always found those outside them far more interesting.

breeze Fri 15-Jul-16 17:50:34

You couldn't make it up JBF. However....... If you do go tomorrow, hope you're o.k. smile

Galen Fri 15-Jul-16 17:19:54

NO! nothing less than PM for * jingle*. ( come to think about it, she could be TM in disguise. We have no idea what she looks like!)
