Oh dear, it looks as though insurgents are now targeting tourists as well. Even though this has been going on for almost two decades now, I've never felt unsafe there. I was supposed to be going to Phuket next year

I also worry for the number of 'suspects' that have been caught. Thai officials are well known for their scapegoating when it comes to protecting tourism.
