Hinkley - or other alternative

Does the thought of France and China building their nuclear reactor in England worry anyone else? Given the problems and unaccountable expense that this particular coalition have created with their nuclear reactor in France that still doesn't work - can we really expect anything different here in England? There are those scientists who say there are better, cheaper and more natural alternatives. I think I still do my bit by being extremely careful with the use of any form of power. It actually made me smile when the local authorities here started turning "unnecessary" street lights off some years ago. I wonder if other countries followed suit. What do other GuNners think?

Having the French or Chinese or any other nation involved in the construction and running a reactor in the UK does not concern me particularly. Most companies capable of such a project would be multi-national. I still think we need nuclear power for some while to come. Fossil fuel powered stations are polluting the atmosphere and green options are not yet up to the job. I suspect that fusion reactors will be developed (circa 2050)before green options are capable of powering the UK 24/7. As far as I am aware all the current green option are cyclic, relying on wind, tide or sun.

Whoever ends up sorting out the power provision I just hope that the price is reasonable which the present proposal is not! shock
