Actually, I'm saying nothing else. Just thought I'd start a thread.

Anniebach Fri 09-Sep-16 23:25:13

I have not followed very much on this, anyone read how well Vaz knew the prostitutes before that night?

Iam64 Fri 09-Sep-16 22:29:36

Yes, Ana is right, it's about drugs

Ana Fri 09-Sep-16 17:59:12

I read it was the allegation that he was willing to pay for cocaine for one of the prostitutes that's being investigated.

Gracesgran Fri 09-Sep-16 17:49:58

I am no apologist for Keith Vaz but I have just heard on the news that the police are intending to find out if he paid the prostitutes and then determine if any law has been broken. Surely this is completely the wrong way round? There isn't any law against paying prostitutes so what right do they have to question him. I/we may not agree with the law but currently the only one that could be broken, as far as I am aware, would be by the prostitutes.

Forgive this comment if it pops up twice - I tried to post it but it just disappeared! So, for the second time...

Regarding the comment that Leicester people are a bit odd if they keep voting for someone they consider a bit sleazy, the answer is that we don't all live in his constituency. My BiL does and has turned to Vaz several times for assistance with various matters. No reason why a person can't be a rogue and also a good constituency MP. I think people's faith in him has been shaken by past financial scandals, though, and I suspect that a sex scandal may be the last straw for some traditional religious voters.

Anniebach Thu 08-Sep-16 19:11:17

True Jess, plus hack into telephones. In some ways the press have more power than MP's

JessM Thu 08-Sep-16 18:47:23

Meanwhile the high minded and righteous members of the profession of journalism are free to shag trafficked women, take cocaine and drive dangerously if they wish, without any risk that their behaviour will become a "matter of public interest".
Gutter press indeed.

Jalima Thu 08-Sep-16 18:31:10

sorry .....

ps what's wrong with self-restraint and self-discipline?

Jalima Thu 08-Sep-16 18:29:05

Re cathedrals: Canterbury charges a tenner to go round, if you go give yourself plenty of time because if you haven't finished by the time they want to hold a service they throw you out. Well, not quite, but quite insistently, even though the service was only in the choir area.

DaphneBroon Thu 08-Sep-16 18:17:02

Feel free nigglynellie GN gets more like a parallel universe each day! smile Just wasn't quite sure which particular tangent we were off on.

nigglynellie Thu 08-Sep-16 17:33:50

Nothing at all really!!!! It was me who mentioned it probably out of contex, and a bit stupidly - sorry!!

DaphneBroon Thu 08-Sep-16 17:05:56

Anyone else think this thread is well past its use by

Hear, hear.
What's collection plates, the Bible (OT and NT ) got to do with it all?

Anniebach Thu 08-Sep-16 13:38:10

Iam, I do feel strongly about the photograph , no one deserved that humiliation , troubles me that such a photograph can be published ,seems anything thing goes now, I posted about it because so very few seemed shocked , I certainly was. I don't agree that you are prudish, i don't think I am but there are limits smile

Iam64 Thu 08-Sep-16 13:23:43

Anniebach, I'm just catching up and saw your comment that people on this thread believe KV deserved what happened to him. Maybe I've read comments differently but to clarify, I sympathise with anyone who has a photograph of themselves in a sexual act printed in a newspaper. I don't believe that was either necessary or appropriate. The paper could have printed the allegations and said something like they had evidence but didn't feel it appropriate to put photographic evidence in a daily newspaper.
I'm a bit prudish I think. I don't want to look at photographs (or video's, i.e. porn) of people involved in sexual acts and I'd prefer such images not to appear in the newspapers. I haven't seen the photographs by the way

Anniebach Thu 08-Sep-16 12:43:16

I attend a high church, seems it's a snob thing among the congregation in your church, a case of she put a fiver so I must. I would most definitely put fifty pence on the plate

Sorry but it's the congregation who is in the wrong not the church

nigglynellie Thu 08-Sep-16 12:37:23

No, not quite, They do however on occasion encourage people to give generously (the church doesn't miss a trick!)everyone does, usually a lot more than £5! Very few coins these days. No one wants to stand out so everyone gives at least a fiver. Mind you this is High Anglicans, maybe other denominations aren't so direct!!

Anniebach Thu 08-Sep-16 11:16:30

Niggly, do the plate collectors ask the congregation to only put a five pound note on the plate or does the priest announce it during the service ?

sunseeker Thu 08-Sep-16 10:57:16

At my church many people don't put anything in the collection plate, some because they have a standing order and others because they can't afford to. No-one is criticised or frowned upon - all are welcome rich or poor.

obieone Thu 08-Sep-16 10:54:32

I totally agree with you nigglynellie.

Actually, I will find out what happens in churches in our area, see if any of them are stil using a plate.

nigglynellie Thu 08-Sep-16 10:51:57

Well yes jingle, but presumably if you are very poor you will be frowned upon for being? mean, less than generous, or worse than that- poor. Years ago the collection was in a bag, so what people gave was their business, but with a plate?!!! Of course you can go to a service and look round after, but you've still got that public collection! The widows mite seems obsolete!

obieone Thu 08-Sep-16 10:51:09

If nothing else it is a question of morals. Lack of.

Anniebach Thu 08-Sep-16 10:24:20

Yes Jingle, a man who didn't break the law has been judged by those who have lived perfect lives, that's it

jinglbellsfrocks Thu 08-Sep-16 10:20:35

Anyone else think this thread is well past its use by?

jinglbellsfrocks Thu 08-Sep-16 10:19:35

Err well, if you want the cathedrals to remain standing nigglynellie... hmm

You can always go to a service and look round afterwards. That's free.

nigglynellie Thu 08-Sep-16 10:15:19

How do we know it was only once?!! The first exposure yes, but who knows whether this was a one off or a regular occurrence?! Surely the escort who went to the paper with this tale along with photos is a bit remiss? or perhaps in his eyes KV was just fair game - who knows, money speaks all languages, even the church expect a fiver to go round a cathedral or on the collection plate on Sunday, whatever happened to the widows mite?!!!
