How bizarre. Are they all as rich as Croesus? Never need any kind of health care?
Everyone I know is worried sick. I know of three people who have put their second homes on the market and two families who have packed up and gone after more than ten years here.

Gibraltar isn't cheap. I've been talking to friends who live in Spain and they say nobody is concerned. The same with friends who live near Bordeaux.

I meant Gibraltar (brain in holiday mode)...

Has anyone heard any more since they voted so decisively to stay in?

I have no idea Ana - we have a flat in the UK- so would not be a problem for us. But 10000s do not and sold everything to finance their move abroad, buy and renovate a property there- often in areas where there would be no market to sell on.

As we all know, there are no suitable properties for those already living in the UK ... as Council stock was sold and not replaced- and as so often said, council properties suitable for older people with the proper necessary infrastructure just does not exist???

Not sure where all the ex-pats would be housed, though (those not fortunate enough to have a property in the UK).

Will they be able to choose where they live, given that most of them won't be looking for jobs? Or will it be a case of allocation of housing where and when it becomes available?

I have every sympathy for those living abroad. How could I not when Mamie put her case so eloquently before the referendum vote?

There is such a lack of sympathy for people living abroad I feel. Not heard much recently about the situation in Malta; I feel particularly sympathetic towards them.

Some will probably sneer and say 'ahahaha they left the ship for better climes, so tough cheese'

fair enough, your prerogative. The Pound has hit an all time low yesterday and many predict it will go much further. Pretending that that will NOT affect our financial services and businesses is really being naïve and an awful lot more.
Difficult to rule the waves when the ship sinks, truly.

As far as those of us who live abroad on UK pensions- the time is getting closer and closer to when there may be no option but to return to UK and depend on the State for housing, care and health costs- and in our 100s of 1000s. And you won't be able to turn us away either...Some can jeer and shout 'you got your comeuppance' and it won't make any difference.

If I was Teresa may I would certainly bear a grudge. If I had worked hard to get rid of some people who wish us harm and been knocked back every time by what I call 'tree huggers' I would take every opportunity to crush their liberal elite ideas

Interesting though Mamie- yes we live within short walking distance to France- so we can use shopping, etc. We moved here when we fell in love with a marvellous old house- and we would like to stay there. But yes, a possibility in things really go belly up. Pros and cons- not sure we would be much better off as property on French side is also high due to all the 'frontaliers' (French workers commuting to work in Switzerland for much higher wages) - houses and flats are growing like mushrooms on the French side.

UKIP leader has resigned with indecent haste. May and Rudd spouting the most blood-chilling stuff about immigration. UKIP - why bother, just shut up shop now and donate any spare funds to the Conservative Party.

Just out of interest GJ have you thought about moving just across the border into France? I think you said that you both have Swiss citizenship so I guess you will not lose your freedom of movement, as the rest of us will do. It sounds as if life would be lot cheaper than in Switzerland!

btw pensioners here have to continue to pay compulsory Health Insurance to the day tof their demise. Depending on the provider, around £300 minimum per person, but premiums are going up all the time. Those who truly can't pay get subsidies or don't pay at all (but very small %).
