Ben Needham's mother

It's hard to put into words, isn't it, the dreadfulness of this. I feel desperately sorry for Ben's mother. All these years of suffering. Poor woman. May she find some sort of peace at last.

If there's anything worse than losing a child, it's not knowing where your child is or what happened to them.

These cases are so awful

It is tragic all round. So sad for the Needham family not knowing he died 25 years ago. Also very sad for the digger driver that he lived with this secret for all these years. It presumably was an awful thing to live with. It sounds as if it was a terrible accident and a 21 month old baby shouldn't have been on a building site in the first instance. If only the driver came forward straight away. I don't suppose he would of been prosecuted then as it was an accident and probably not his fault. Let us hope Ben's remains can be found and his little body brought home

So dreadfully sad and if it does end this way what a tragic waste of life not only for little Ben but also for the whole family. Living not that far from Sheffield it's been on our local news a lot over the last 25 years and the courage and dignity of Kerry and her parents has been astounding. Can only hope that if they do find him in the locations they are now looking at least they can have some closure but after all these years the nightmare is never going to go away. The friend of the digger drive should be prosecuted for withholding evidence - mental torture he could have put an end to so long ago!

How could someone live with such a terrible secret? How did they manage to sleep at night? What must she be thinking now, his poor mum. Does this person know where the poor little mite was laid to rest?

Surely whoever kept the secret could be charged with perverting the course of justice - if there is such law in Greece.

How could they have kept that secret and lived with themselves?

Heartbreaking if true,25 years spent hoping against all odds that Ben was alive,shocking that any human being can conceal something like that for 25 years.

If it was genuine accident why cover it up. At least she knows - assuming this is true - that her son was not abducted, abused or tortured before being murdered. How anybody can live withose unimaginable horrors I do not know.

Even when at times she may have thought he was dead she hope to cling to and could dismiss her worse fears , no longer, poor woman .

A deeply affecting interview on radio this evening. I cannot even begin to comprehend what she and her family have gone through over the last 25 years. Given the perpetrator of this outrage, assuming that this story is true, presumably remained living in this community and so must have heard again and again the heartfelt appeals, the grief and the pain of this family - and he cannot have avoided it, could still keep his knowledge to himself to save his skin, defies belief.

If the story is true, they have not only lost their son, but lost 25 years of their life as well.

A difficult time for the family. I couldn't help but think she looked smartly dressed, as usual composed but you could detect that dead eye look that tells you someone is functioning but still grieving after all these years for her boy.

I must admit I often felt for Ben's mum throughout all the publicity surrounding Madeleine's disappearance. I know the times had changed, and communication was much easier but for both sets of parents the anguish must have been almost unbearable.

If this news is reliable, at least Ben's mum will be able to grieve properly for her son.

How terrible to have spent the last 25 years having your hopes lifted then dashed again.
Truly terrible to lose a child, but surely better to know and be able to grieve than to never know and always wonder.

Yes, it's terribly sad. A lifetime spent agonising over what might have happened to the little boy. I hope finally this search will be over and at least the little boy's family can at last have some kind of peace of mind.

I agree with you completely Rosie. Also thinking about rhe Mccanns and all the other people in the same situation who didn't make the headlines!
