That is a snide comment in itself,as are most of your posts recently to other Gransnetters who you judge unknowledgeable.Putting a smiley face after your comment doesn't make any kind of sense either.

their message very likely isn't logical.Probably of the pie in the sky variety, with swear words thrown in as extra ballast.
As Ana says, no knowing how old they are anyway, although Corbyn attracts the younger rebellious type.

Of course, there's no knowing whether all or even many of the comments' authors are 'young'. Expletives aren't the preserve of those under 30 on the left, as evidenced by McDonnell and others.

Oh the comments - I read both -I get the guardian delivered and digital version, but only occasionally look at the comments - the exuberance of youth. Different days different ways. I don't think they have the monopoly on expletives or sneering though.

Try social media of any political persuasion. Our generation was brought up proper the young are undoubtedly passionate but they seem to have to be passionate with vulgarity it is true. However if their message is logical........

Oh and I completely agree. Right wing rags aren't even worth using for loo paper these days..

Sadly the limited factions of both left and right persuasions are destroying the art of debate.

If you read articles on line, as I do, you cannot have failed to notice that the comments section has become completely unpalatable because the cult of Jeremy has brought young (maybe?) contributors who offer nothing other than insults to anyone who holds a view they don't share.

Not only are they disgustingly vulgar, resorting to expletives, but their argument tends to be of the "What do you know if you disagree with me?" nature. They seem to lack self-control.

The left wingers on Gransnet have a better pedigree and vocabulary, I'll give you that.

I don't bother read the comments sections of the Guardian any more. I used to enjoy the cut and thrust of good argument but many of the responses have now become predictably limited and immature.

Day6 when Rod Liddle expressed those views on Question Time, he practically got a standing ovation. More and more people are becoming aware of the 'sneering' left.

I must have different specs too, because I've seen quite a bit of right-wing sneering. In fact, I would give the right-wingers the top prizes in sneering - they're experts.

Whitewave, you probably don't perceive Guardian articles as 'sneering' because you agree with them.

They love talking to themselves! Until fairy recently there were frequently only two posters on some political threads, each sychophantically agreeing with the other and being very chummy!

You'd be talking to yourselves. You might enjoy that. You wouldn't have to sneer at the few people brave enough to join in who don't hold your views.

Anyone reading Gransnet political threads would be able to see how the sneering, intellectual left wing elite really doesn't like lesser mortals, those not as clever as you, that the left supposedly fights for.

It's patently clear if you read Guardian columns (for example)that opposition to left wing ideas, in any shape or form, is now condemned as stupid and uninformed or of a xenophobic or racist nature.

When liberals sneer or hurl insults what they basically convey more often than not is "You aren't clever enough to disagree with me."

They fear opposition and try to stamp it out, but they find it difficult to do it pleasantly.

I cannot be the only one to have noticed.

I was about to write exactly the same thing. Well said. ANY party in charge is likely to face difficulties, and not be able to ease them to the likes of everyone. If we did have a left wing government there'd be just as much complaining about its priorities.

Politics seems more and more about divisions and point-scoring and lots of fanciful ideas. Murphy may have solutions but we'd only see the merit (or otherwise ) of them if they were implemented.

There is too much didacticism (I raise my own hands)on the political posts and not enough humour.I agree with Iam68 that we should try to cool it because the constant hammering of your own political view is very off-putting to other posters. Constant links remind them of persuasion tactics(or even the dreaded homework) of those people who stand on your step, determined to make a point by shoving a leaflet in your hand when all you want to do is slam the door.
I remember when it was considered impolite to air your political views alongside religion and what you earned.
