There is no 'fall out' worth speaking of, over May's speech in Davos.Only a bit of muttering.
When a political leader lies on their CV - can you trust them?
Very interesting article about T May. Forgive me if it's been posted before.
I think that the author is proposing that the Murdoch media have been superseded by the Daily Mail in setting the agenda for 'British' and that Theresa May is a product and perpetrator of its agenda.

The Daily Mail takes power
Anthony Barnett 5 October 2016
After 25 years in politics Theresa May has no obvious connections to any think tank. She shows no interest in ideas. Asked by Conservative Home in a Quick Quiz session to choose between Burke’s “Reflections on the Revolution in France” or Louise Bagshawe’s “Desire”, she replied, “I wouldn’t read either of them, sorry.” The prime minister who faces arguably the Kingdom’s deepest constitutional predicament since George III was driven from the Cabinet by the loss of the American colonies dismissed out of hand the idea that she might ever turn to the pages of Burke, even though as a student she had chaired a society named after him.
As the country faces an unprecedented concatenation of economic, strategic, diplomatic and constitutional uncertainty, the woman at the helm seems devoid of intellectual resources. The one decision she has definitely taken is to give the go ahead to Hinkley Point C nuclear power station, a boondoggle incapable of justification by any criteria of integrity. The Pharaohs built their own pyramids, Theodoric built his own mausoleum. But these were designed as monuments to generate the admiration of posterity. Surely only an idiot would make their first decision the go-ahead for a colossal radioactive tombstone to her regime.
But Theresa May should not be dismissed as an idiot. There is a striking and potentially formidable coherence to the general direction she has set for her new government, evidenced by the self-confidence of her ministers who remarkably quickly are singing from the same song-sheet. She does seem to have a clear ideology refreshingly different from her predecessors. Where has it come from?
The answer is The Daily Mail. On Sunday in her first speech to her party as its leader, she set out her view of Brexit and announced that she intends to trigger Article 50 to start the UK’s withdrawal from the EU before March. This was a moment of upmost gravity, to recognise and measure the immense divisions that have been opened up within the country, and consider the implications for the entire continent that Britain once helped liberate from fascism. Instead, her tone, brevity and apparent practicality were drawn as if directly from a Daily Mail editorial.
Intelligent comments section, too.

There's quite a bit of muttering.
Well, if you search hard enough there's bound to be from someone, somewhere...
daph there's a lot of muttering from everywhere including the UK. It would help if she didn't keep contradicting herself. CEOs are not taken in by the false enthusiasm, they simply look at the bottom line. The UK is on the road to nowhere.
I didn't have to search hard at all, Ana. Just been reading the half dozen or so mainstream newspapers I normally read online.
The general impression seems to be that May didn't say anything important, what she did say was contradictory and few people think she'll deliver. Delegates at Davos seem more interested in Trump.
Quite. Not much to worry about then - wonder what fallout whtewave was talking about yesterday ('not looking good is it?')
I thought Soros the billionaire Hedge Fund Manager, Currency Speculator would be a typical devil incarnate character for any socialist to use as the go to guy for expertise.
However he is a very powerful man and who does not know he is called 'The Man Who Broke The Bank of England'.
'Soros rose to fame as the money manager who broke the Bank of England in 1992, netting a profit of $1 billion with a wager that the U.K. would be forced to devalue the pound and pull it from the European Exchange Rate Mechanism. Soros said in an opinion piece last week in the U.K.’s Guardian newspaper that he was “fortunate” to make a substantial profit for his hedge-fund investors at the expense of the BOE and the British government."
I am not surprised at something he has recently been saying and used in many reports/articles.
'Today, there are speculative forces in the markets much bigger and 'more powerful'. And they will be eager to exploit any miscalculations by the British government or British voters.
A vote for Brexit would make some people very rich – but most voters considerably poorer.’
He should know!
The 'Gnomes of Zurich ' on a bigger scale , Giants of World Financial Dominance'. Be afraid 'they' don't like being wrong!
What makes you think that Soros doesn't know he's called 'The man who broke the Bank of England'?
Yes, he should know about people becoming richer/poorer! And probably does!
Nowhere did I claim he's right nor that he's a pleasant character. I reported what he said. He's made a considerable amount of money from being right much of the time. so I'm not going to discount what he says.
dd yes we'd be mad to ignore them just as we'd be mad to ignore what Trump and other far right politicians say
Exactly!
Meanwhile, HSBC has announced that is definitely moving 1000 jobs to Paris. Somebody on the radio was saying that these are the really high earners and that the tax on their salaries alone will have an effect on income tax receipts.

I'm sure he does.
I will alter my post to please those who have misinterpreted my words (again)

However he is a very npiwerful man. Who does not know he is called 'The Man Who Broke The Bank of England'.
Is that better, easier to follow.
POGS
Ah yes! Thank you!
Writing unambiguously is a skill.
POGS good post re Soros and it would be laughable were it not tragic, how idealistic gullible middle class left wingers are supporting exactly the policies wealthy bankers are directing them to do.
Soros is a backer of the horrible pompous Gina Miller who brought the court challenge re article fifty.
A question mark at the end would have been a further improvement.
Going back to durhamjen and the accusation Theresa May is a fibber , mealey-mouthed way of calling somebody a liar.
How is she is a fibber/liar.
Theresa May wanted to obtain EU citizens from the the '28' countries in the EU have clarity and consistency for those currently residing in the '28' countries Reciprocal Rights to reside now.
As far as I am concerned Angela Merkel did rebuff this offer/guarantee over EU Citizens Reciprocal Rights. She did so following the EU mantra of 'No negotiations before Article 50 triggered'
'Tusk said the EU “stands ready” to negotiate Britain’s exit from the EU, including reciprocal rights, but could only do so once the process formally begins. “Let me reiterate, however, that the decision about triggering article 50 belongs only to the UK, which we fully respect,” he said.
This is comment that can be found from other EU countries spokesperson's too.
I think Reciprocal Rights will hopefully be at the fore of negotiations but to call Theresa May a fibber/liar is to be in denial of the facts.
What am I missing ?
As regards our being a "racially diverse nation", that is a very recent development, almost entirely limited to post world war two immigration.
Have you never studied any history, Mair?
We are a genetically racially diverse nation. It's on the record from at least Roman times on that immigration has played a part in our genetic inheritance.

I thought I would get in quick before you told me I had spelled the word powerful incorrectly too.

POGS although I wonder why anybody bothers to nit pick with posters comments, unless it's to be superior in some way.Your comments were perfectly clear in your first post.
The concept of "race" is old fashioned and scientifically outdated. It's a hangover from the time when white people viewed the "savages" they discovered in various corners of the globe as an inferior subspecies. Science has progressed a fair bit since then and we now know that we are definitely a single species - a person from any corner of the world can breed successfully with a person from anywhere else in the world. Our DNA varies a little - controlling many small and insignificant traits such as whether or not we have curly hair. DNA analysis has now galloped ahead that scientist can now identify a lot of specific genes. Some of these are of known origin. Some may have evolved more than once. Anthropologists used to sort the human race into discrete "races" like African, Australian natives etc but now they cave agreed that this is nonsense.
A new friend of mine wears a hijab. She has a round face, olive toned complexion and blue-green eyes. Her little girls have slightly darker toned skin and have Arabic names. Her first name is not easy to place (I think it's an abbreviation) When I first met her I assumed she was from the middle east somewhere. But no - she's from England.
Have you never studied any history, Mair?
Rudeness again I note.
Try to be a little less angry!

No we are not. We are less not more genetically diverse than much of Europe, and certainly not "racially" diverse. The ancestry of indigenous Britons lies entirely in Western Europe. The Romans did not leave an acknowledged genetic footprint, which is not surprising as over generations the genetic material of any one individual ancestor is likely to be lost. In fact there is no certainty of traces of an ancestor further back than a grandparent.
Non European admix of any significance is entirely a post WW2 development.
I suspect you have been influenced by too much BBC propaganda Maizie.
I suspect you have been influenced by too much BBC propaganda Maizie.
And I suspect that you have been influenced by something far more sinister.
I don't get my history from the BBC but from academic texts. Where does yours come from?
Rudeness again I note
Oh, a snowflake...
T May gave two very good speeches, recognised by most as such.Any grumbling about the content ( from Remainers) is just that, grumbling about anything to do with leaving the EU.The speech at Davos, aimed at a different kind of audience was also very good ( can anybody imagine Corbyn trying to negotiate things if he was PM , he would be a walkover for the EU.)
At this point in time, for both those who want us to leave and those who voted to remain, whichever political party you support, I don't think anyone could or would do the job as well as May.
This doesn't mean that she will turn out to be the best PM ever ( possible though)
But that we need somebody to send out strong and positive messages, and she is certainly doing that.
How can you claim that T May's speeches were recognised "by most" as very good?
The concept of race as applied to human beings is a totally false one. All human beings are the same species.
The Romans almost certainly did leave some genetic footprint.
There certainly are ways of tracing back and confirming ancestors beyond grandparents.
