Well someone has to start this thread. He cannot be worse than George W Bush or more incontinent than Jack Kennedy - can he?

Marmark1 Thu 10-Nov-16 19:07:59

Thank you very much DaphneBroon,

DaphneBroon Thu 10-Nov-16 18:02:27

Marmark I am very sorry to hear that and will gladly swear and cuss on your behalf. It is more than enough to summon up the courage and energy to be stoical and facing up to a terrifying brain operation without the added stress of having it postponed.
It is JUST NOT GOOD ENOUGH .
Fingers crossed for tomorrow. flowers

Marmark1 Thu 10-Nov-16 17:39:57

Well,it's certainly not right at the moment.
My dear nephew,52 years old, married with 2 teenagers, has just been diagnosed with a cancerous brain tumour.Hopefully it can be removed, and was scheduled for today,
Its been put off until tomorrow, lack of beds.

rosesarered Thu 10-Nov-16 15:21:14

Maybe not, but that's democracy.

daphnedill Thu 10-Nov-16 14:33:25

Yes, we know that, but change isn't always for the best. Just because the majority think so doesn't make something right.

Marmark1 Thu 10-Nov-16 13:23:13

Despite whatever,s said on social media or any other media. The majority of ordinary people are sick to the back teeth of the way things are today. Its alright for the privileged lovies ensconced in their gated palaces, who don't have a bleddy clue how the rest of us live,[or bleddy care] most of them.
We have voted for change,it's almost a cry for help.
Ok,I agree he may not be the best, but the alternative was unthinkable.
The majority agree.

DaphneBroon Wed 09-Nov-16 21:33:07

Still not shouting <sighing > shock (yawn emoticon)
Why address that post to me anyway?

janeainsworth Wed 09-Nov-16 21:04:05

MargaretX I think you are being unfair to list only the bad things that have come out of America, if indeed they did originate there. I am sure that pornography, for example, predates the Declaration of Independence by centuries, if not millennia.

The United States has given the world some of its greatest statesmen, and ideals of liberty and freedom. They may not be obvious at this moment but I hope that in time America will rediscover the true foundations of its society.

“The test of our progress is not whether we add more to the abundance of those who have much; it is whether we provide enough for those who have too little.”
Franklin D. Roosevelt

DaphneBroon Wed 09-Nov-16 21:02:44

Not aware I was shouting at anybody grannypiper , just a polite request for clarification.
Or did you get it wrong?
Surprisingly, I do not have the time to trawl through both threads to find out what the heck you were talking about .
I repeat confused

Jalima Wed 09-Nov-16 20:53:12

confused

I didn't hear any shouting grannypiper, only a polite request

grannypiper Wed 09-Nov-16 20:47:18

Daphne,do you think everyone sits on their computer every waking moment ? some of us have things do.Go back and read the thread and please stopshouting calm down or you will do yourself a mischief

DaphneBroon Wed 09-Nov-16 20:01:03

Nope, still confused grannypiper is it something I said?

DaphneBroon Wed 09-Nov-16 19:17:03

I am not sure what this relates to grannypiper? confused
Could you give me the times of the posts you mean to help me find them please?

grannypiper Wed 09-Nov-16 18:07:26

DaphneBroon, it was suggested on the other thread by someone who doesnt agree with the OP of this thread that she should take her views and open a new thread

M0nica Wed 09-Nov-16 17:18:47

I had a look and I didn't see any other - hence the title and first sentence in the first post.

I am not sure that it would have occurred to me that a thread labelled 'A bad day for the world' was about the result of the US election rather than fears for the result. In fact i do not necessarily think it is, but will go to that thread to say why

granjura Wed 09-Nov-16 11:25:49

To Moderators- could the two threads be joined (with the 'bad day for the world') - please.

Cherrytree59 Wed 09-Nov-16 11:15:47

There is a bigger problem than Trump wining the presidential election
The republicans have also gained the majority in all the 'Houses'.
So no-one to put the breaks on.
He is the most powerful president since the 1920s.
I fear he will be a One Man Band.
Unlikely to listen to any of his advisers.
The ultimate power trip!

m.youtube.com/watch?v=PX9reO3QnUA - watch and weep

Rigby46 Wed 09-Nov-16 10:50:07

Answer to OP yes he can. I was watching a roundup of the campaign on Monday and I think what truly horrified me again was his mocking of a disabled journalist - a UK politician would not have survived that

MargaretX Wed 09-Nov-16 10:26:59

When you consider what the world has gained from the US- pornography, brutal film scenes, junk food, GM crops, Barbie wowmen, cosmetic surgery, Creationism, etc then what you have as president now is what America really is, and we might as well get used to it.

Somehow together with Brexit its hard not to worry.

rosesarered Wed 09-Nov-16 10:19:25

My DH stayed up all night, but kept popping in to wake me up with news (!) I may as well as stayed up too as am frazzled now.
DH has just stomped off for a shower and will be in a bad mood all day.

Jalima Wed 09-Nov-16 10:15:33

I think the title of this thread is non-committal, unlike the other thread - and there were some posters who thought Trump may not be a bad thing .....!
shock

I thought DH was joking when he brought my brew and the news so I laughed.

Not laughing now.

rosesarered Wed 09-Nov-16 10:15:17

I expect that Monica either started this one first or didn't see the other thread( have done that myself).
We shall have to wait and see how things work out, it is a shock, the polls always seem to be wrong about everything now, hardly worth having them.
There are checks and balances on a President, he cannot act as a dictator.

DaphneBroon Wed 09-Nov-16 10:02:01

Why do we need yet another thread? Haven't we got enough space for this topic on threads such as "A bad day for the world "?

Oh and pedant alert, Im68now it's *there's" not "theirs "

ninathenana Wed 09-Nov-16 09:58:26

Nobody is saying there can't be two threads Charley was just stating fact.
