First blood to Trump

Trump will be inaugurated in 16 days time. Ford has recognised this new era.

How will his Junta of advisors deal with the political world?

Will Trump continue to govern by twitter?

Will his erratic behaviour stop?

Will he be less muddled in his thinking?

What will happen to NATO and article 5?

Will the world survive his environmental policy - such that it is?

Will America be able to contain him?

When Michelle rudely grabbed the Queen and plonked a kiss on her cheek she displayed an astonishing lack of all three virtues you believe she displays, Rigby.

I suspect Melania will not struggle to do it better.

Mair I don't think Lucky was wishing him dead although I think the world would be a better, safer place if he were I have to say. Melanie won't get the same acclaim because she won't have the same dignity, grace and class

Mair Wed 18-Jan-17 23:40:31

Wishing the man dead is a disgusting comment Luckygirl.
shock

Mair Wed 18-Jan-17 23:36:44

Well, everyone was pretty interested in what Michelle Obama would wear at the time....

grin grin grin

Somehow I dont think poor Melania will receive quite such uncritical acclaim as Michelle was favoured with.

Luckygirl Wed 18-Jan-17 22:05:15

I don't hold out any hope whatsoever that Trump will do anything honest and worthwhile - all we can do is grit our teeth till he gets kicked out or falls sick and dies.

His upbringing has programmed him to be arrogant and to get what he wants by fair means or foul.

mcem Wed 18-Jan-17 21:57:07

And you think that's a priority??

Araabra Wed 18-Jan-17 21:17:42

Melania's wardrobe should be gorgeous, lovely on the telly.

I am going to find something to do on Friday tat will keep me VERY busy, preferably outside.
Lewlew I knew you were American, you got my snake oil comment!

whitewave Wed 18-Jan-17 20:06:50

Oh that's a good idea yes I'll try Al Jazeera, as I know what you mean.ott.

Lewlew Wed 18-Jan-17 20:03:37

WW No way... we will likely see the highlights on the news here. It's all very very long and then there's the parade. It's a holiday in Wash DC only.

Then the motorcade departs the Capitol and heads down Penn Ave to the White House. Will they get out of the car and walk with Melania and kids for a bit as most do? Once the presidential party takes their place in their heated plush enclosed stand at the WH, the parade used to take hours. But according this article, this one is to be shorter. Less participants? Or is it his short attention span being catered for?

www.bostonglobe.com/news/nation/2017/01/17/donald-trump-inaugural-parade-will-shorter-less-diverse-than-barack-obama/4ZobZRGUPGPBFrK9UqawWI/story.html

I might watch France24 or Al Jazeera as it will be very toned down presenting compared to UK channels, especially SKY (Murdoch). Not sure...the BBC can be OTT sometimes, too.

whitewave Wed 18-Jan-17 19:48:12

Are you going to watch the inauguration lewlew?

Lewlew Wed 18-Jan-17 19:45:25

I have lived here continuously since 2000, off and on before that. And I have my British citizenship as well.

Sad to say... I don't feel very American anymore because politics seems to define you as an individual, eg conservative or liberal.sad

At least here, you are who you are. The first words out of peoples' mouths in the US are often 'S...o what do you do, or who do you support?' I have even been asked if I own any guns here in the UK. They just don't get it that every other nation isn't as gun mad. confused

Oh well... US passport stays in drawer. Any hols will likely be to Canada next year if I want to see national parks for our 25th.hmm

I don't have a clue what would happen if Trump got an attempt at the inauguration. I assume they'd shut it down, usher all away as they did with Reagan. Surely Pence would take over, but I do recall when Reagan was shot that Haig was running around like a headless chicken yelling 'I'm in charge, I'm in charge!'...when he clearly was not to be in charge. confused

whitewave Wed 18-Jan-17 19:19:46

Pence?

Obamas last press conference in a minute

durhamjen Wed 18-Jan-17 18:59:18

Interesting, LewLew. What happens if someone takes a potshot at Trump at 12.01?

rosesarered Wed 18-Jan-17 18:46:07

A positive flood then.

Judthepud2 Wed 18-Jan-17 16:20:10

I think WendySue is American also.

Ana Wed 18-Jan-17 16:18:07

Envious used to be a regular too, but seems to have disappeared recently...

Ana Wed 18-Jan-17 16:17:19

I think we have a couple more, rosesarered - Rhinestone is another American who posts regularly.

rosesarered Wed 18-Jan-17 16:07:10

I didn't realise that we had a genuine American in our midst, I hope you feel settled in Wales LewLew smile
You can give us your perspective on all things USA

Lewlew Wed 18-Jan-17 15:54:55

WW that is what is scary... weird is the new normal! shock

whitewave Wed 18-Jan-17 14:42:34

Just read your link, yes that is weird, but nothing is going to surprise me at the moment

Lewlew Wed 18-Jan-17 14:35:18

Hi Rosesarered, I moved back to the UK with my Welsh DH in 2000. I still visit what's left of family and friends most years, but likely won't be for the next four years! sad

rosesarered Wed 18-Jan-17 14:25:47

Do you still live in the US Lewlew?
