First blood to Trump

Trump will be inaugurated in 16 days time. Ford has recognised this new era.

How will his Junta of advisors deal with the political world?

Will Trump continue to govern by twitter?

Will his erratic behaviour stop?

Will he be less muddled in his thinking?

What will happen to NATO and article 5?

Will the world survive his environmental policy - such that it is?

Will America be able to contain him?

POGS Mon 16-Jan-17 15:17:13

despised not disposed.

POGS Mon 16-Jan-17 15:15:43

Not defending Trump, although no doubt somebody will read it as though I am sadly.

There is a persistent line being used that Trump is in Putin's grasp, is his mate.

What is the difference between Trump wanting to 'talk' to Putin in a friendlier manner than Corbyn?

What is the difference between Trumps daft words and thoughts on NATO, thus far, and Corbyn's ?

They are saying extremely similar things are they not?

One is disposed the other, well he's a great bloke is that the difference because I don't follow the logic.

The Scottish herald post is brilliant.
I do wonder what would have to happen to encourage his supporters to consider he isn't the best person for the post of Potus. On recent showing, he can do no wrong ?

Agreed Rinouchka. It's a matter of waiting and seeing.

I feel he won't run for 4 years, and that he will be impeached - but if that were to happen, it will be long and drawn out following a Select Committee hearing of his affairs.

Rinouchka Mon 16-Jan-17 13:54:32

Time will tell ideed, whitewave, and the essential questions you ask at the beginning of this thread will basically have to wait a while for answers.

Much as I abhor the man, I accept, unlike most of my American family and friends, that nothing will stop the "machine" of government now and Donald Trump will be President. For how long, is another matter.

Friends are boycotting even watching the inauguration ceremony so that Trump cannot tweet that it broke all audience records.

Keep an eye out for the protest march that follows on Saturday.

His enthusiasm for Putin some say is because of the various dossiers. Time will tell.

MaizieD Mon 16-Jan-17 13:28:40

I rather think that this idea that the US president is 'the most powerful man in the world' is a bit unrealistic. Politics, I was told at the start of my degree, is 'the art of the possible'. Even US presidents can be constrained by what is possible rather than what they'd like to do. Trump will find it easier than did Obama as he has a Republican majority to back him up, but I think that a great many of them are not in agreement with him and will block what they feel to be too outrageous.

What bothers me particularly is his enthusiasm for Putin and his lukewarm approach to NATO. I think that this is a really bad time to be withdrawing from the EU and trying to cosy up to a maverick.

whitewave Mon 16-Jan-17 13:27:43

Oh rinouchka why does it seem so real?!

Rinouchka Mon 16-Jan-17 13:22:42

A cousin from Virginia has just sent me this clip from The Scottish Herald TV list.
The Twilight Zone indeed!

Beammeupscottie Mon 16-Jan-17 13:21:48

Yes, you are right about sucking up anything to do with Trump; not a very clever or hygienic idea, on reflection. Not having a go at Mrs. May; she is a very well dressed politician who can afford lovely clothes but needs a good hairdresser, IMO. Being well groomed is from top to toe and will gain American respect.

whitewave Mon 16-Jan-17 13:07:43

Just watched the Gove/Trump "interview" Actually it was just disjointed ramble as is usual with Trump.

Front of the queue was not guaranteed, and we must be so careful of a stitch up.

Iam64 Mon 16-Jan-17 13:03:27

I find the phrase 'suck it up' nauseating in relation to Mt T. No offence to you beameup.

I find myself coming to the defence of Theresa May when her clothes ,hair etc are attacked. Policies, yes have a go at them but leave the pm alone on the frock front.

Beammeupscottie Mon 16-Jan-17 12:41:47

What with trade deals with the USA and Theresa May on the front cover of the April Edition of American Vogue (God I hope they do something with her dry hair - she needs some oil or balm on it) we are moving closer to a very special relationship. All very exciting in this Brave New World of ours.
Things are as they are and we have to accept and work with it; I didn't want to leave the EU but I believe it is on it's last legs and we need to look across the Pond for our future. I don't like Trump but he is there and will be the most powerful man in the World at the end of the week. We have to suck it up.

'Haven't bothered to look at my post to you, POGS, so I've no idea what I was implying.'

That's what I thought when I read your post to me. Very odd.

daphnedill Mon 16-Jan-17 11:07:39

There's an opening for a decent barber somewhere in the world!

whitewave Mon 16-Jan-17 10:32:29

Yes I thought the description of Trump as an elderly teenage so apt, that's exactly what he is like.

Anya Mon 16-Jan-17 09:02:46

DJ a confrontation between Trump and that Fat Teenager in North Korea ?? doesn't bear thinking about. They are two of a kind and we would simply be caught in the middle.

Haven't bothered to look at my post to you, POGS, so I've no idea what I was implying. Had to go out since then.
Can't help it if my link doesn't work on your tablet, either.

POGS Sun 15-Jan-17 22:29:41

Hmm

I take it you don't have a reply to my post nor an explaination as to what you were implying durhamjen.

I am not surprised I think you were following a poster rather than reading the many 'discussions' prior to your post to myself.

Your link didn't work by the way on my tablet.

I haven't a clue what your post of 12.23 to myself means or is implying. confused

TriciaF Sun 15-Jan-17 20:49:15

ps, and this:
'The Electoral College consists of 538 electors. A majority of 270 electoral votes is required to elect the President. Your state's entitled allotment of electors equals the number of members in its Congressional delegation: one for each member in the House of Representatives plus two for your Senators.'

TriciaF Sun 15-Jan-17 20:41:10

I've often wondered that too, AlieOxon. Seems it's been in place for a long time, 12th amendment to the constitution:
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Twelfth_Amendment_to_the_United_States_Constitution

AlieOxon Sun 15-Jan-17 20:03:56

Can anyone tell me who brought in the electoral college business and why/when?
Seems to me very UNdemocraatic!
