First blood to Trump

Trump will be inaugurated in 16 days time. Ford has recognised this new era.

How will his Junta of advisors deal with the political world?

Will Trump continue to govern by twitter?

Will his erratic behaviour stop?

Will he be less muddled in his thinking?

What will happen to NATO and article 5?

Will the world survive his environmental policy - such that it is?

Will America be able to contain him?

daphnedill Wed 25-Jan-17 20:13:10

Did you mean Joshua Kushner?

Rinouchka Wed 25-Jan-17 20:08:06

Regarding the extended Trump family, in yesterday's Times 2, there was an interesting article about the Kushner brothers, one married to Ivanka and advisor to Trump, the other a Democrat who voted for Hillary, joined in the protest march . He is Joshua Trump and combines entrepeurism with Democratic principles. His health insurance company, Oscar Health( named after Their Holocaust survivor grandfather) was created to broker deals made possible by Obamacare. Joshua Kush er's hero is JFK. So...chalk and cheese .

Well that's true, but perhaps the Trumps shouldn't have paraded their son around with them at all public events - he looked worn out a lot of the time. Chldren shouldn't be used as props.

I am the last person to stand up for any Trumps( by birth or marriage). However, let's see what this new First Lady does before criticising her.

Ana, I wrote "survivor" because she is a survivor of a closed communist country which then saw civil war and strife in her youth. Her parents were not poor and they were card-carrying communists but recent history has shown that even those can and do make a volte-face when circumstances require it.

That is what I meant by "survivor". It may not be laudable but this is what happens, sometimes. The parents live in Trump Tower and help look after Barron.

Another thing I do not like is the ridiculing of this 10 year old boy by some of the American media. He is a child...and should be left alone. Poor kid!!

Araabra Wed 25-Jan-17 19:49:05

Melania survived living behind the iron curtain, under communism.

Ana Wed 25-Jan-17 19:37:13

No, she didn't come from a deprived background, so I don't know what she's supposed to have 'survived'. Rinouchka?

rosesarered Wed 25-Jan-17 19:31:59

I thought the same too Rinouchka ( Sophia Loren)

Jalima Wed 25-Jan-17 19:31:45

hmm I don't think she came from a deprived background.

Rinouchka Wed 25-Jan-17 19:27:11

Unless Melania Trump does or says something objectionable, she should not be pilloried by the media, I think.

Like many beautiful girls from 2nd and 3rd world countries, she used her looks to get herself and her family a better life. It is not for others to judge. She is a survivor...but at a cost.

Let's see how she handles herself and the kind of influence, if any, she will have on DT and, indeed, how long the marriage will last.

I thought she was definitely the best looking of the Trump Bunch and lent much needed grace to the new regime. In fact, her face and cheekbones bore a striking resemblance to Sophia Loren!

Obama did good. Bet Trump claims ownership of the unemployment figures.

durhamjen Wed 25-Jan-17 19:14:12

All the Trump businesses are under the same umbrella, hers, his, the children's.
Are you saying that she doesn't know what her husband planned?
Are you saying that he can tell every other American to bring their businesses back to America, and everyone else has to put America First, but not her?

That gives a new meaning to Trump Towers, Elegran. Do you think he will pull down all the towers everywhere else in the world and rebuild on the border?
Does he have any in South America?

Jalima Wed 25-Jan-17 19:12:45

The unemployment rate in the USA is 4.9%

He may need more Mexicans to help build all the infrastructure he plans.

Jalima Wed 25-Jan-17 19:10:32

Yes, it is all a big red herring.

Thanks for the link Elegran

Jalima Wed 25-Jan-17 19:09:25

But Melania Trump does not have a fashion business - not sure what is meant by 'her own outfits'

Elegran Wed 25-Jan-17 19:07:14

Leave the woman alone and return to her husband - Trump orders wall to be built on Mexico border www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-38740717

Is he also planning control towers every half-mile and guards with machine guns ready to shoot down anyone trying to scale it? Because that is what it will take to keep out any Mexicans who really want to cross to the US. Then there are the beaches on which they can land from overloaded leaky boats.

Iam64 Wed 25-Jan-17 19:06:57

I don't see how djen's remarks about Melania Trump's business can be seen as "bitchy". It's simply a fact that many of the Trump businesses use cheap labour in factories in the Philippines or China. I seem to remember Ivanka's clothing range are produced in China.

rosesarered Wed 25-Jan-17 18:50:43

Bitchy remark djen
I am with you Jalima on that, Melania Trump has done nothing wrong, I find all the remarks about her say more about the poster than her.

whitewave Wed 25-Jan-17 18:48:19

I will be interested to see the Republican reaction to some of his dafter plans.

Republicans, like our Tories believe in free trade. Trump is a protectionist

Republicans, like our Tories believe in a low tax low spend government. Trump believes in low tax but high spend - so far his plans have run into billions and billions.

Jalima Wed 25-Jan-17 18:45:04

It was Ralph Lauren but I don't know where it was made.

Now, is it only me that thinks she should not be subjected to snide remarks just because people disagree with her husband's politics?

durhamjen Wed 25-Jan-17 18:33:38

It was probably one of her own outfits made in China or the Philippines. One of those factories that's got to be repatriated so the US workers can have jobs.

JessM Wed 25-Jan-17 14:49:05

I don't think he'll have much time to consume news at all. Unless like Thatcher he does not sleep much. Doesn't he tweet in the middle of the night. But sleep or not, the number of things he is going to be asked to get his head around in the next few weeks would tax many younger (and better) brains.

Jalima Wed 25-Jan-17 14:34:20

I don't know how he finds the time to watch all that - does he have a professional tweeter on call these days?

Jalima Wed 25-Jan-17 14:32:42

I did wonder what she would wear but I thought her outfit was lovely.
It wasn't really like Jackie K's except the colour

Jackie K wore a hat, Mrs T did not which may not be good for the hat industry hmm

daphnedill Wed 25-Jan-17 13:46:24

We're happy to take some of you back, Rhinestone. Could we do a swap?

gillybob Wed 25-Jan-17 13:44:25

I have to say that Mrs Trump's outfit was stunning and she carried it off so well too. I loved that colour and yes it did remind me a little of Jackie K. I wonder how original should she have been to please the press? Jeans and a Tee shirt perhaps or a pair of hotpants?
