Government must have vote on Brexit

Supreme Court has ruled that Parliament must vote on whether the government can start the Brexit process.

This means Theresa May cannot begin talks with the EU until MPs and peers give their backing - although BBC says this is likely to happen in time for the government's 31st March deadline.

Howver, the court ruled the Scottish Parliament and Welsh and Northern Ireland assemblies did not need a say. Not sure why.

David Davis to make a statement to MPs at 12:30.

However wasn't British law, sovereignty largely what a Brexit was about and this is a judgement by the highest court in the land. As Theresa May was originally a remainer, do you think she's been secretly hoping this would happen?

Mair Tue 31-Jan-17 18:09:11

Seems unlikely that Mair the criminal would have this amount of internet access for so many hours a day
No of course he wouldnt.
If he did do you really think he'd
a) Use his surname?
b) Chose to post on Gnet?

I note Jess is also still attempting to taunt by refusing to comply with my request to refer to the murderer Thomas Mair as TMair.
One can only assume that this is deliberate and she intends to create ambiguity by using the name in the context above.

Mair GN has been an apologist for him on this site though, citing that there were reasons why he assassinated Jo Cox other than the one which the judge chose to believe

No Jess that does not make me an 'apologist' but given that TMair chose not to defend himself in court it is clear that the judge had a very incomplete picture of his motives.

The other reasons suggested for the murder do not in any way excuse what he did and would unlikely have won him a shorter sentence.

So again Jess one can only conclude that your ridiculous dubbing of me as an 'apologist' is designed to taunt.

This is in open defiance of Gransnets request.
Shameful.

Nor me!

There are some GN members with more extreme views than Mair, but they post infrequently on the political threads and always get blasted with both barrels.

It does seem that some on the left can't bear the fact that someone is actually still allowed to be on GN who dares to disagree with their views...

As for this

By the way, do you you're not part of a clique. I must admit that surprises me.

Can't make head nor tail of it!

Not listening to 'racists' and 'bigots' ( not my words) got us, Europe, and the USA to the place we are at now.

rosesarered Tue 31-Jan-17 17:32:29

Why do you think LucyGransnet issued a reminder about being civil on here?Just for the fun of it?

rosesarered Tue 31-Jan-17 17:28:50

dd you say the silence on the murders in the mosques in Quebec is deafening.....
where? It's in the news, have heard and seen reports several times on tv and radio.
Did you mean on Gransnet? Start a thread then, this one is about Brexit.

daphnedill Tue 31-Jan-17 17:28:19

JessM was just stating a fact. It was hardly an aggressive comment.

daphnedill Tue 31-Jan-17 17:27:32

Never judge a book by its cover. Appearances can be deceptive roses.

By the way, do you you're not part of a clique. I must admit that surprises me.

rosesarered Tue 31-Jan-17 17:24:59

You chose to post an aggresive comment on the very day GNHQ put a reminder to be civil on here Jess what is going on with some of you? It certainly looks like an orchestrated attack by drip drip drip against a Gransnet member.

Anniebach Tue 31-Jan-17 17:18:51

True Daphne, he may have a mental health condition

If the minds of racists and bigots are ignored how will we ever learn what causes their hatred

Anniebach Tue 31-Jan-17 17:16:12

Thank you Ana. Sorry Mair

daphnedill Tue 31-Jan-17 16:48:25

I don't really want to understand the minds of racist bigots and murderers.

The silence on the murder in the Quebec mosque is deafening. Awww! Maybe he had some kind of mental health condition. Poor lamb! angry

Amen to that.smile

Mair Tue 31-Jan-17 14:21:55

Shelagh Foggerty just now on LBC made the excellent point that people need to try to understand each others views, rather than just condemning those who disagree as ignorant, uneducated, fooled, tricked, brainwashed, left behind etc. This was following a very well expressed call by an Irish supporter of Trump (bit of a division of loyalties there for Shelagh LOL)

When one side are reluctant to say just what their views are however, while attacking those whose views they plainly dont share, reaching even mutual understanding, if not agreement, is difficult.

We are all old enough here that at least trying to understand each other should be within the wisdom we'd all like to think we have gained over the years.

LucyGransnet (GNHQ) Tue 31-Jan-17 13:49:49

Afternoon,

Just a reminder that, while we know these political threads get heated from time to time understatement we thank everyone to keep the political debate civil. We may all have different views, but please do remember the guidelines when posting. Thanks.

Ana Tue 31-Jan-17 13:26:44

Annie, it was suggested when Mair first started posting that she had chosen the name deliberately as some sort of tribute to that despicable person...hmm

Anniebach Tue 31-Jan-17 13:13:58

Mair, who on earth is going to think you sre T Mair who is serving a life sentence

Anniebach Tue 31-Jan-17 13:12:31

Is David Ike posting here

Mair Tue 31-Jan-17 12:52:21

WW said
the theory argues that the global royal dynasty ruling the world is doing so by a form of brainwashing

That is a theory but not the only, or one to which I subscribe.
Many conspiracy theories abound and sometimes they turn out to have a strong basis in truth. Those of us saying the EU wanted to become a single state used to be laughed at, now we have Guy Verhofstadt the EU’s chief Brexit negotiator has admitted the EU is failing and calling for a United States of Europe with majority voting not unanimity! That was NOT what people voted for in 1976.

One would expect Bremain voters who complain so much about their voice being over ruled would be very unhappy about such an anti democratic development such as that (Nicola Sturgeon espcially should protest).

annodomini Tue 31-Jan-17 11:40:05

Ah, so it's in my genes. That explains a lot. wink

whitewave Tue 31-Jan-17 11:07:00

anno strangely enough you might actually belong without knowing it, the theory argues that the global royal dynasty ruling the world is doing so by a form of brainwashing. It's worth looking up their site if you are prepared for what you read.

annodomini Tue 31-Jan-17 10:52:46

I have only just read this interesting thread and would like to know a definition of 'global extremist' whether 'hardcore' or not. It sounds like a club I might like to join.

whitewave Tue 31-Jan-17 10:43:07

mair who have you called*hardcore globalist extremist* and this is your chance to explain what you mean by this description.

Mair Tue 31-Jan-17 10:37:23

As regards 'taunts' WW I reject your claim that I have sought to 'taunt' you. In fact I have tried to ignore you, because of your tedious taunting, sadly its not that easy.

You may recall I made the polite request that posters referring to the murderer Thomas Mair should refer to him as TMair, so as to avoid confusion with me. That request was ignored by you and your chums. Now THAT is 'taunting'.
