The Trump presidency

The last Trump thread has run out of space. I suspect we need a new one. As he steams through his first week issuing royal edicts on a range of things and asserting that he will build a wall, how will politicians in Washington react to his fascist agenda along with his apparently immature and decidedly dodgy personality?

Hope you heard Trump's latest reassurance to his sycophants, as if he needs any.
The US is taken advantage of by every nation in the world, virtually. But don't worry. I'm going to protect you from them all.
And May is going to deal with that?

'Dear Mr. Trump,

This is not what greatness looks like.

The world rejects your fear, hate-mongering, and bigotry. We reject your support for torture, your calls for murdering civilians, and your general encouragement of violence. We reject your denigration of women, Muslims, Mexicans, and millions of others who don’t look like you, talk like you, or pray to the same god as you.

Facing your fear we choose compassion. Hearing your despair we choose hope. Seeing your ignorance we choose understanding.

As citizens of the world, we stand united against your brand of division.'

The Avaaz petition that has nearly 5 million signatures now, many from the UK.
I am aware that May thinks citizens of the world are citizens of nowhere. In which case, why does she keep insisting we want to be global Britain?

Very nice of Trump. Two lads from Yemen who wanted to join their dad who is a US citizen.
They were sent back to Ethiopia, on their way back to Yemen, so Trump can bomb them, like the other civilians he's already killed.

Bannon is almost certainly lining up the ducks though. He has said recently that America will almost certainly go to war in the South China seas as well as the Middle East

Mexico may be top of the list in my opinion. Though war may be a bit strong.

Joelsnan - do you use FB much? I have a sil who will often share a post or video without ever looking where it comes from. If someone shares an article from the Guardian, or Daily Mail or a link to an item on the BBC or C4, we can put that into that context and make a judgement about how credible it may be . With this video, it was posted on a really horrible FB page and then when I clicked onto the individual's FB page it is clear that he is a really really fanatical Trump supporter. Yes I know that that is his choice but it's relevant information when assessing the credibility of what he is saying.

Joelsnan Thu 02-Feb-17 18:31:21

Rigby46 I don't know if we can take much at face value however the guy does seem genuine (I didn't look any further into this site as its name seemed to imply it was a lads place). We know there are many peaceful people in these countries, but there are also quite a few who would do harm and it is certainly the case that Western employees could not wander around these countries freely for fear kidnap etc.
I think these countries rate highly in the countries that the Foreign Office warn against travel to and insurance companies will not provide insurance cover for because the risk to life is so high.

Of course he could be Christian.
He was twittering with one of my friends who is a Muslim Arab. There were other Arab tweeters in the conversation and yes, I know a little Arabic, Shukran smile

durhamjen Thu 02-Feb-17 17:22:47

Only one 'twitterer', then, joelsnan, not 'twitterers' as you said in your original post

whitewave Thu 02-Feb-17 17:19:31

rigby extremely unsavoury. It occurred to me to wonder how many Americans have been beheaded in Iraq by the ordinary Iraqis? I can't remember ever reading about such an incident

durhamjen Thu 02-Feb-17 17:19:27

You understand the language, do you, joelsnan?
You can hame an arabic name, live in an arabic country and be a Christian.
These tweeters are also conflating Muslims with hatred of America. It's not true.
Trump hates muslims; muslims do not necessarily hate America.

Rigby46 Thu 02-Feb-17 17:10:06

It's always the vice- president - Johnson followed Kennedy and Ford followed Nixon.

Rigby46 Thu 02-Feb-17 17:07:47

Hummm - that FB video- do you think it can just be accepted at face value? The WTF magazine FB page has some pretty unsavoury posts on it - there is one for example about women 'asking for it' if they dress in a certain way.

whitewave Thu 02-Feb-17 16:38:36

Pence -another extremist.

Bannon is almost certainly lining up the ducks though. He has said recently that America will almost certainly go to war in the South China seas as well as the Middle East

Joelsnan Thu 02-Feb-17 16:35:26

I was wondering if Trump is eventually deposed who would replace him, would it be the deputy as happened when Kennedy was assassinated and I think Nixon following Watergate because I don't think his deputy is much or any better than him. I have always wondered what was so bad with Hilary apart from her 'standing by' her philandering husband.

Joelsnan Thu 02-Feb-17 15:56:01

The poster was an Arab person twittering in Arabic, he probably us Muslim, obviously happy where he lives and obviously questioning the logic if those who want to travel to US. Can he be considered racist?

gillybob Thu 02-Feb-17 14:19:48

Good link Joelsnan but I think many of us already knew that to be the case anyway.

TriciaF Thu 02-Feb-17 14:01:16

Fascinating Facebook link, Joelsnan.
I'm not surprised though.

petra Thu 02-Feb-17 13:02:42

Exactly joelsnan

Joelsnan Thu 02-Feb-17 09:22:39

Durhamjen An Arab twitterer are those who live in an Arab country who Twitter in the Arabic language smile

He wants a war with China now. He needs impeaching quickly.

What's an Arab twitterer?
You can tell by the name, can you?

JessM Thu 02-Feb-17 07:08:40

Joelsnan you posted this: "I have also noted Arab twitterers asking why when Muslims supposedly hate everything American do they want to go there."

I would like to challenge the faulty logic of this sentiment. All Muslims are not agreed on anything. Any more than all Christians are all agreed on anything. Making generationalisations of this kind is a kind of racist stereotyping and I urge to to think carefully about what and who is behind such posts on Twitter. Or anywhere else.

The man who started this said he would give $5 to the American Civil Liberties Union for every hand drawn picture in support of immigrants, Muslims and refugees.

www.indy100.com/article/cartoon-donald-trump-travel-ban-muslim-immigration-terrorism-executive-order-united-states-islam-7554661

So far he's donated over $6200.

About Trump.

Whenever I think of pictures of fluffy kittens, I think of those pink plates in Professor Umbridge's office.
