On 1st January this year, Her Majesty The Queen made me a Knight of the Realm. On 27th January, President Donald Trump seems to have made me an alien.

I am a British citizen who has lived in America for the past six years - working hard, contributing to society, paying my taxes and bringing up our four children in the place they now call home. Now, me and many others like me are being told that we may not be welcome. Yes, US District Court Judge Ann M Donnelly issued an immediate emergency stay and the American Civil Liberties Union is on the case. I am very reassured about this immediate reaction re this facile attempt by DT to address a complex issue.

But now the concern is for the people who are being held and what will happen to them. Even with a stay on the executive order, internment has been proposed and this is not a pleasant option.

Another concern for us as a family is that our SiL2, an eminent young surgeon from the Middle East working in NYC with a green card, a British-American wife, American babies, and a Christian ( but with an Arabic surname and French first name, confusingly) will not be free to travel in and out of the US, despite all his credentials.

Immigration officials are not always the sharpest regarding differentiation between geographical areas, religions, origins of names, etc. This will affect them if they visit us, or his own family, or if he attends one of the many medical conferences at which he is invited to speak.

Just want to stress that this affects real people and so we must react accordingly.

I am finding the reaction to Trumps actions so uplifting. It shows that the world has not gone completely mad.

Don't sneer at people reading Tom Nicholls, dj. The lawyers can use law but not all Americans are lawyers. Reading Tom Nicholls gives guidance to ordinary citizens on how to make their opinions known, and how to point out illegality where things are not legal and use their protests where things ARE legal. In short, too use their brains as well as their emotional response.

The Queen has met so many Heads of State in her long reign, some good some really dreadful like the odious Ceausecu's, so I'm sure she'll manage a Trump visit with her usual diplomatic skill. I can't really imagine what Theresa May is supposed to say without making a bad situation worse. A lot of people were very put out and angry at Obama's perceived interference in UK domestic affairs over the referendum, even tipping the scales (adversely for the government) for some. So, I suppose except where it adversely affects British subjects, we have o keep out of America domestic affairs.

I think the best way to show how we feel about Trump is to absolutely not go anywhere near him when he comes to London. Demonstrate our feelings via an empty mall and deserted streets. Boycott him completely.
The Queen will handle him with style and grace. Prince Philip -not so much.
