Yes, US District Court Judge Ann M Donnelly issued an immediate emergency stay and the American Civil Liberties Union is on the case. I am very reassured about this immediate reaction re this facile attempt by DT to address a complex issue.
But now the concern is for the people who are being held and what will happen to them. Even with a stay on the executive order, internment has been proposed and this is not a pleasant option.
Another concern for us as a family is that our SiL2, an eminent young surgeon from the Middle East working in NYC with a green card, a British-American wife, American babies, and a Christian ( but with an Arabic surname and French first name, confusingly) will not be free to travel in and out of the US, despite all his credentials.
Immigration officials are not always the sharpest regarding differentiation between geographical areas, religions, origins of names, etc. This will affect them if they visit us, or his own family, or if he attends one of the many medical conferences at which he is invited to speak.
Just want to stress that this affects real people and so we must react accordingly.
