If O-bomba had got all this flack when he had become president, they would have been called racist, ok. though for a white man to be called all the names under the sun. As for torturing just think if one of your realations had their head cut off by vermin, would you want the culprits to get a smack on the hand.The man needs to be given a chance to see how he does but the majority of people on here won`t do that. It`s like following sheep.

I'm a bit surprised at myself but I do believe Theresa is doing a reasonable job as PM. Am I right in thinking she responded to an invitation to visit Mr T. Would those who criticise unseemly haste as symbolically suggesting she/the UK support Trumps racism, mysoginy and rudeness prefer her to have turned the invitation down.

Why is every one on here getting their nicks in a twist because a guy, who thousands in the U.S voted for well knowing what he had in mind for their country, just happened to WIN this election.???

I reckon Theresa May is using the old adage "keep your friends close but your enemies closer" when dealing with Trump. He's unstable and she's doing her best to keep negotiations on an even keel. Personally, I'm very glad that she hasn't behaved like Angela Merkel, as a pp said upthread.

Very few UK Prime Ministers or their Parties have been elected by a majority of those who bothered to vote, varian. The US democratic system of electoral colleges is different from ours but it is a form of democracy and the rule is that if a presidential candidate wins the electoral college votes, s/he becomes president, regardless of the popular vote.

Both systems are imperfect, like everything else human, but they have served both countries reasonably well for a long time.

There's always rooms for improvement but it's not always easy (usually isn't, in fact).

I'm probably not going to be popular saying this but we are an island so have no worries about people easily crossing our border. I've no idea what other countries do that have joint borders, some have rivers but if you are not going to have a border, let's say in Africa, then the whole of Africa could flood into your country. If the USA doesn't have a border then the whole of South America could make its way up to the north.

Trump and May elected because that is what the majority wanted. Now trying to carry out what was promised. Do you really think it would be advisable for May to start laying down the law and making an enemy if Trump? It is just sour grapes and stupid to wine on about what isn't, try the waiting game and give democracy a chance, that is unless you want an end to ballots and democracy!

Mr Trump is cracking on and is doing what those who elected him want him to do and this is exactly what you would expect of an elected government. I'm fed up of critics of him. You are also criticising his voters who are equally fed up of the Obama years. How I wish we had politicians who thought so highly of our own country.

As someone making the best of a bad and very difficult job, both the Cameron dimwitted and ill thought out fiasco she inherited and the election of Trump, I think Theresa May is doing quite well.

ffinn, re your comment at 15:55 yesterday, I've just listened to the second half of that radio hour. I was very interested to hear what they were saying about not changing the "power dial" that puts power in the hands of the political elite, whether Republican or Democrat, but getting rid of it altogether. I found that an appealing idea democratically speaking because current populist swings and recent metophorical two finger salutes to the establishment suggest that that is what people want.

Teresa May was pro EUROPEAN until after the referendum when she got the chance to be PM. We could stay in EU stop all this and work on improving our position there. Instead she's clearly desperate in rushing to meet him.

People in Europe think UK is crazy, the £ is worth less than before the referendum, Lloyds of London, there since 1700's are leaving ! Sinking ship!

Hands up all who are left wing and are decrying any deals with the US/unseemly haste to meet Trump/ not wanting their products/puppets etc ?
Thankfully, May is doing all the wheeling and dealing that she needs to, lining up the ducks ( trade deals) and seeing what comes of it, for us in the UK.

I am living in the hope that there will be checks and balances in the US system that will curb some of DT's excesses. I thibk he had to sign a few "emperor-style" edicts to begin with to keep faith with his voters - but I am hoping reality will water them down as time passes.

Well I just hope that the picture of May & Trump holding hands doesn't come back to haunt her if it all goes downhill in US.

She doesn't have to make an enemy of Trump, that is so obvious as not to need stating. But, the speed at which she dashed across the Atlantic had more than a whiff of desperation. If there is anything Trump understands and is happy with is the alpha male syndrome and the killer instinct in a good deal. She has just been rolled over.
She should take a leaf out of Merkels book and wait and see, watch and decide.

I agree with you Blinko - I think the only thing Trump wants is an invite to the Queen, to attempt to give him an air of respectability.
