Listening to this made me feel really sad.

RIP

Oh I am with you on this - I felt so sad when I heard. I have several recordings of his and they always lift my spirits. Poor chap did look awful in his later photos published today - could hardly recognise him.

He was a little ray of sunshine as far as I am concerned.

Lovely voice, another sad loss. RIP

"You're a lady" was such a beautiful composition, both musically and lyrically.
I was only a young teenager when it was released but it was one of my favourites and I liked him too. I remember reading at the time that Skellern was a virgin when he wrote it, and I think this kept me pure and holy for quite a few years longer!! grin

Ohsad. "You're a Lady" is lovely. Terry Wogan used to play it when I was collecting my friend on the way to school...such memories.

Lillie - I read that he was married with a child when he wrote it - what a wasted few years for you! grin

I love the sound of a brass band doing the 'poignant bit' in a pop song. It works a treat.

Was very sorry to hear that he'd died. I always enjoyed his music. I wonder if the Grimethorpe Colliery Band will play at his funeral? I hope so. It would be so appropriate.

He was ordained as a priest last year, four months before he died, apparently. Very sad. I liked the brass band backing too, merlot. A nice touch.

The brass band coming in at the end is brilliant. It adds poignancy to an already poignant song.

Thanks for posting, op. Just had a very bittersweet few minutes listening to thatsad. Actually the band is actually there all the way through...love the way it's all ramped up in the instrumental bit at the end....sadsad

I switched on the car radio this morning and Graham Norton was playing Peter Skellern singing "The way you look tonight". It was so breathtakingly sincere and beautiful that it brought tears to my eyes. Just lovely.

MissAdventure Sat 18-Feb-17 18:25:59

Another song that gets the tears flowing.

DH did some work with him when we lived in Cornwall. Such a nice man!

Ana Sat 18-Feb-17 19:51:33

He apprently had two children, but they aren't mentioned in his Wiki entry.

Jalima Sat 18-Feb-17 20:07:04

Perhaps they want to remain private.

Ana Sat 18-Feb-17 20:30:06

Does Wiki care about that? Serious question.

Jane10 Sun 19-Feb-17 08:00:54

Wikipedia info is only as good as the last person to input info to it. Its not very reliable!

NotTooOld Sun 19-Feb-17 15:44:33

Yes, lovely man who made lovely music. Love 'You're a Lady', didn't know he did 'The Way you Look tonight'. I really like Sam Brown's version of that - Joe Brown's daughter.
