Labour now

What these people have to say about Labour as it is now struck cords with me.

Peter Hurst (@peterleohurst)
'Blue labour types' right about 1thing: many trad Labour voters more conservative than many third wayers/centrists care to acknowledge.
2. That conservatism with a small 'c' includes things like loving the royal family and being proud of being British. Social dems might not
3. win via 'riding the tiger of nationalism' but they wont win via the old 'New' Labour formulation either. The 5 million voters lost
4. During the years 1997-2010 are not going to return to a party that is, in effect, the lib dems in drag Iain. prospectmagazine.co.uk/magazine/labou…

I have noticed that Westminster does appear to believe that the only function of the north is to reliably vote Labour. And we don't now.
For as long as UKIP, the Labour left and fringe batshittery is the only alternative to Lab up here the Tories will clean up.
'Why would working class people vote Tory'. Because they cant vote Labour and the alternative is UKIP. In a nutshell.
One of the striking things about the left is this shock at working class tories, and working class people who dont want their revolution.

The photo is Hurst's Twitter profile. What it says seems well put too.

That ( glove puppet) scenario made me laugh Anya , and I think that Len Mc will drop his support of Corybn, but as you say, it's a wait and see situation.

Been avoiding the political threads but just read Bags' OP and have to say that nailed it.

But, there's a slight change of flavour to the Labour Leadership just lately, if I'm not mistaken. Firstly The Look. JC has smartened his image up, in a sort of smart/casual sort of way. I was quite fond on his knitted jumper (made by mum) and his reasons for wearing it, but do admire his later efforts towards a touch of gravitas.

Secondly, he's actually started speaking out against this government. I was dismayed at his lack of Efficient Opposition, but now he's found his voice and it's a promising start.

Thirdly he had a Trump-like attitude towards the Media, but I noticed he is now starting to realise that they are better on-side. I had to LOL watching him on TV news last night when he had finished the interview he remembered (just in time) to give a smile to the interviewer. I could almost hear his coach saying 'remember to smile Jeremy '

I can't stand the Len McClusky (?) style of Unionism, and the way he has his hand up the backside of recent labour leaders like a glove puppet. It is he who has manipulated (!) the last two leadership elections. Now that link is weakening, but that could mean one of two things. Either he'll dump his support of Jeremy, just when he's starting to show potential as a leader, or JC will show that he has more leadership potential than we've yet seen.

It's a wait and see situation.

They came second in Bristol, too, with 27% of the vote.
It would be good to see another Green Party MP. Caroline Lucas must be getting lonely.

whitewave Mon 27-Feb-17 08:45:35

They come first here!!!! We never follow the crowd in Brighton

durhamjen Mon 27-Feb-17 08:42:17

The Green Party came second in 2015. Less than 10% of the vote, like all the other main parties, but still!

I can't imagine a day when Gorton won't vote in a Labour MP. Let's hope the area gets a good candidate because it needs good representation

daphnedill Mon 27-Feb-17 02:12:55

News just in that Gerald Kaufman has sadly died, so there'll be another by election. Manchester Gorton is one of the safest Labour seats in the country and voted strongly for Remain.

It will be interesting to see who's selected as a candidate. If Labour messes this one up, Labour really are in trouble, although the LDs' percentage will also be interesting. There are thousands of Manchester Uni students in the area. Ukip stands no chance.

When I said on here, did I mean on this thread or on GN as a whole?

Ana Sun 26-Feb-17 22:34:54

Actually roses reported me for repeating what she had told us about her previous voting. I actually had to show GNHQ evidence that she had said it - now lists are made of assumptions.

Ana Sun 26-Feb-17 22:26:25

I thought you'd said goodnight, whitewave. I'm not inclined to be 'gentle' when someone has been extremely rude in previous posts.

whitewave Sun 26-Feb-17 22:22:17

Enjoy your coffee!!

rosesarered Sun 26-Feb-17 22:21:48

grin 'ang on.......I want to have the last word! Nope......am going now, I really do need a coffee.

whitewave Sun 26-Feb-17 22:20:12

ana do you ever give an inch or show any gentleness?

Ana Sun 26-Feb-17 22:19:49

We all have 'other things' to worry about, whitewave.

Ana Sun 26-Feb-17 22:18:06

Goodness, you must have had your finger poised, just waiting...hmm

rosesarered Sun 26-Feb-17 22:17:36

in the scheme of things, nothing on GN matters a jot.
Off to watch the last Taboo episode now, and coffee.cafe

whitewave Sun 26-Feb-17 22:17:18

Takes my mind off other things quite nicely.

whitewave Sun 26-Feb-17 22:16:23

Night ana

Ana Sun 26-Feb-17 22:15:27

Not a jot or a tad or a bit whitewave!

You certainly kept going on about it for long enough, though...

whitewave Sun 26-Feb-17 22:06:58

I'm not enraged! I am about as far from enraged as I could be. I merely pointed out to ana that when I suggested that a poster voted a certain way I got zapped. That is all, I then was told by the pair of you that I was ashamed(what ?) or afraid to admit how I voted. Just how silly is that. I am to be honest sat here a tad (oh sorry ana that should have been bit- yeh in your dreams) amused at the silliness of it all. In the scheme of things it doesn't matter a jot does it?

rosesarered Sun 26-Feb-17 22:00:47

No, don't tell me what happens (SSGB) or I may have to run you through with my Ghengis Khan type spear.

rosesarered Sun 26-Feb-17 21:57:24

Look WW you could be a closet UKIP supporter for all that interests me, but the very denial about the Labour Party is fascinating.Sure, the way that any of us votes is by secret ballot, though you were hardly quiet about Mair it has to be said , and look what you just said about me upthread ( hardly calm and at peace!)
Other posters may not be so enraged about being called Labour supporters.

POGS Sun 26-Feb-17 21:57:06

" Most people on here are not Labour voters. Most of them are Tories and really enjoy the labour baiting. Do you wish to deny them that little bit of enjoyment? "

Oh the irony grin

whitewave Sun 26-Feb-17 21:52:59

I'm ambidextrous. If you aren't careful I'll tell you what happens
