English Scots for YES

Why would you hate being born in England? I wouldn't have minded where I was born in or out of the UK, but then I don't hate any country in or out of the UK. Also why is it fine to be fiercely nationalistic if you're Welsh (no disrespect intended ab) Scottish or come from Ulster? But if you're fiercely nationalistic and come from England, you are immediately derided as a ' little Englander'! Strange really!

DD Thank you for the corrections re Mr Murphy (I should have guessed from the name ). I only came across his blog this week when looking for articles which could not be construed as Nationalist propaganda. I really enjoyed his demolition of Gordon Brown's fantasy economics.

Granny23 Richard Murphy isn't Scottish. He identifies as Irish and has (I believe) dual nationality. He's not a professor at Cambridge, but at City University, London.

Fitzy Murphy does indeed have his own agenda, which is fairer taxation. He's not a fan of any political party and has little patience with any politician who doesn't understand economics.

If you go to the homepage of his blog, you'll see he's just torn apart Gordon Brown's suggestion for a 'third option' on economic grounds.

Another strange thing is my sons father hated the fact that he was born in England. I have brothers in Northern Ireland that hate the fact that I was born in England. Go figure. Secret hatred for the English is very alive and well. Im all for us being apart.

No not a wind up Jalima, a truth. It's time we separated and stood alone. Northern Ireland wants to be just that, Wales wants to be just that, Scotland wants the same. Im all for it.

Scotland is not part of England, neither is Wales or N. Ireland.

We are all part of the UK.

No I don't want to be in the bureaucratic EU. I want England to be free to make our own judgements, laws and trade. We can of course work together.

Have the referendum. It's fair and quite just for the Scots to do so now. Hopefully it will happen. I for one don't want anyone to be part of England that doesn't want to be. I'd rather England be just that.

Do you consider France, Germany and the other EU countries not to be independent countries, nigglynellie?

Powerful is having the strength to influence people or events so that is true of Sturgeon; however, as First Minister she represents less than 6 million people so the power she holds is disproportionate and certainly not at all representative of the UK as a whole, many of whom, including Scots living in the rest of the UK, would not want an independent Scotland.

Granny I thought the article was more an attempt to smear TM than anything else. That guy clearly has his own agenda and will use any excuse he can to have a pop. But having said that I'm sure there are many Scots whose desire for independence is a view that the English are arrogant and condescending in their views about Scotland. However, while that's obviously true of some (we have our fair share of ars*****s as does everyone else), it certainly isn't true of most of us down here.

Brussels has/had had no input whatsoever into last Junes referendum. No permission in any shape or form was required by them, it was entirely a UK decision as it would be in any other European country. Scotland has to have the permission of Westminster to call a referendum that would be legally binding. Why Scotland is so desperate to exchange Westminster for Brussels, if they can, remains somewhat at odds with complete independence!!!

Tonight I came across this blog from an Englishman, a Professor at Cambridge no less, who actually 'gets it' about the desire for Independence. Worth a read along with the comments which follow.

How do know it's the same people who bang on about independence and sovereignty as those who can't understand that Scotland might want to be independent of the U.K. Has anyone said that is their stance on both issues?

Perhaps those who bang on as you call it would be happy to see Scotland leave the UK because they understand nationalism - except someone would then accuse them of being 'little englanders' of course. Would 'little scotlanders' be an appropriate term for fervent nationalists?

Scotland wants to take back control now in order to remain in the EU - isn't that the whole point of wanting another referendum? Or is that just an excuse for another referendum because the nationalists didn't get the 'right result'?

But many seem to think we are ruled by Brussels. Isn't that what all those "sovereignty", " take back control" sound bites were about ? I find it a bit odd that those who bang on about independence and sovereignty can't understand that Scotland might want to be independent of the U.K.

Westminster hasn't said they can't have one, as Westminster hasn't yet been asked.
