Can you imagine somebody who is now a fervent English ( living in Scotland) SNP supporter and has just given up smoking.

To me, it seems that before another referendum, sorting out the answers to the questions that were left vague in 2014 (currency, pensions etc) is far more important than in/out the EU.

I think that as Scotland does most of it's trade with the rest of the UK and not EU countries ( not to the same extent) what on earth is the point of being in the EU for them? The EU won't really want an independent Scotland anyway, can anyone see Spain agreeing that?
Of course, Sturgeon knows this, and will simply use it as a clobbering tool to try and get even more goodies from Westminster, although she may well get her bluff called.

Please don't over react it is not that bad a word, it is usually used in the way you might refer to someone as a "pain in the *rse"

With you Esspee. Out of the EU - and the UK - Scotland could be completely independent and could have a new more equal link with England and Wales. (Northern Ireland would be a different problem!)

As to Scotland remaining in the EU, I understood that this can only happen if Scotland becomes independent before Brexit. If we divide into two nations whilst both countries are still members. The same would be true if Catalonia left Spain, one country dividing within the EU.

But if Scotland votes for independence after Brexit. She will have left the union along with the rest of us and will have to re-apply.

Could I also suggest that your rants do more harm than good and that using derogatory terms like bawbag lowers the tone just for the sake of showing off that you have mastered a Scottish sweary word.

Paddyann, I was rather tired when writing last night and expressed myself poorly.
I am Scottish. I voted for Independence, have voted SNP since I was 18. I voted for Brexit as I expected the EEC to be a trading partnership but it has evolved into a bureaucratic gravy train for career politicians (the Kinnocks are the worst example I can think of), it overrides our laws and ruins our industry (fishing for example). In Scotland we welcome people who wish to become Scottish but are forced by the EEC to protect the human rights of those who wish only to take from us and/or destroy our way of life and even do us harm. I want Scotland to be truly independent - a nation again, completely in charge of our own destiny.

Scotland does not meet the economic criteria to join EU on its own. Its so annoying and daft to even think of another Scottish referendum.

I am English and I really don't need your advice thank you paddyann and I don't need to be to be told to " behave myself" either. What a cheek !

Now I'm bowing out ,it would appear that ondependence is fantastic for all countries EXCEPT Scotland.Malta it seems had similar opposition when they aspired to be independent at first in the 1950's.Yet on the 50th anniversary of that becoming reality Your Prince William flew out to celebrate it with them .Malta has a population ten times smaller than ours and none of our resources and they seem to be doing just fine...Scotland will with independence PROSPER.

lot of interesting comments sadly some who still believe everything they see in main stream media ,it should perhaps be pointed out that in Scotland neither the queen nor parliament is sovereign....and its the people who will decide ...as we dcided to send 56 MP's to westminster whose core policis independence.Esspee Westminster with 84% english MP's makes most of our laws,the EU somwhere around 7% as an independent country in the EU we will have exactly the same rights as all those other independent nations ...France,Spain.Portugal,Germany etc etc etc,,So do you believe that none of those nor any of the otherEU countries are "independent"? The original post was about English born yes for indy,here are some comments from their page: I am a 60 yr old Englishman who came to Scotland 35 years at the age of 25 and has worked everywhere from Port Patrick in the Borders to Stromness in Orkney and holidayed from Kinlochbervie, to Barra to Ecclefechan. I am a member of the SNP and a supporter of Scottish independence. In all my time here I have never experienced any anti-English animosity.
The Scots are not anti-English they are anti-bawbag.
My advise is, if you are English, behave yourself, don't act like a bawbag, switch off bawbag, stay out of full-on bawbag mode and you will be made as welcome as if you were family.

Dave Beecroft You mirror my own experience D George. I came in 1982 and have always felt welcome. Wasn't initially a nationalist, I still believed in the Labour Party at the beginning but I'm wiser now and, like you, an SNP member.

Gail Hughes Where I used to live, in a tourist area in the West of Scotland, we had a couple who bought a hotel. From the time he arrived to the time they sold up and left six years later, the bloke found fault with everything. Other businesses, employees, the local customers, the tourist board, everyone.

Hardly a week went by without him having an article or a letter in the local paper going on about how everybody else was doing it all wrong. Nearly every of his complaints started out with, "Where I came from in England we..." Not surprisingly he was frequently asked, "If it was so good why don't you back there?" He eventually did, because of all the anti-English abuse, as he saw it.

The reality was that it wasn't where he came from that was the issue, it was the way he consistently told everyone how superior it was. He was guilty of "Bawbaggery" to the highest degree.

Nothing has been said about those who voted YES for independence and yes for Brexit. I cannot see any logic in wanting out of the Union yet also wishing to remain in the EEC who override our laws. That is not independence.
