On Nationalism… – English Scots for YES
Many of you will have seen the comments of London’s Mayor Sadiq Khan over the weekend to Scottish Labour’s annual conference; many of you will share the outrage felt by our members, by supporters of Scottish independence, and indeed across the Scottish political spectrum at what we feel is a complet...

I think the biggest issue on this thread has got to be - why weren't we told not to waste time backspacing that annoying indent into oblivion? There's a few minutes of my life I'll never get back grin

Jalima Mon 27-Feb-17 23:43:26

I know a lot of Scottish people who have left Scotland permanently (not just in England - worldwide!) - perhaps if they are remainers they will all go flooding back.

SueDonim Mon 27-Feb-17 23:35:10

Who is this 'we' of whom you speak, Paddyann? I am an English person living in Scotland. You do not speak for me, I can assure you.

Ps to the others who've mentioned it, I'm getting the indent thing too. Weird.

I think if Norfolk went independent he could be invited back there as King Edward I of Norfolk.
Pity, I am sure he would miss Arundel, he kindly let us visit it last year and it is lovely

Jalima Mon 27-Feb-17 23:26:46

Perhaps the debt wouldn't be so high if the Scots didn't have more spent on each of them than the English or the Welsh.

ducks for cover
sorry, Scottish friends, not aimed at you grin

Jalima Mon 27-Feb-17 23:24:45

PS and a Scottish King too.

Jalima Mon 27-Feb-17 23:22:18

Gosh, that was difficult to read paddyann!

An abusive marriage?
We have had a lot of very notable Scottish Prime Ministers, Scottish holders of the Offices of State and always a representative number of politicans at Westminster so why you consider Westminster to be the Masters of Scotland and abusive puzzles me as Scotland has always had a voice (well, a lot more than one and very loud some of them are too).

But never mind, could not read another long post like that until I've had a rest.

Are you very interested in the aristocracy djen?

durhamjen Mon 27-Feb-17 22:24:59

Same here, Maizie. Do you ever see him in the local shops, whitewave?

rosesarered Mon 27-Feb-17 22:23:17

Are we allowed to barbecue them do you think?grin

rosesarered Mon 27-Feb-17 22:19:42

grin POGS

durhamjen/. Maizie D /Whitewave

It's such a shame the police shot 3 'brave patriotic citizens' though isn't it.

MaizieD Mon 27-Feb-17 21:16:52

The Duke of Norfolk wouldn't be in the slightest bit affected by Norfolk's independence. The connection between Dukedoms and counties disappeared hundreds of years ago. And many of our English dukedoms are titles given to various kings' bastards (plus all the lands that were given alongside them); they have no relation at all to the far, far off times when dukedoms were a bit meaningful...

I have every sympathy with the Scots desire for independence and wish them the best of British...

durhamjen Mon 27-Feb-17 20:57:38

Grannypiper, didn't they say that to try and get the Scots to vote to stay in the UK?
Since Brexit they want Scotland to get independence to break up the UK because of Brexit. Not surprisingly.

Are you allowed to tell people to shut up?

whitewave Mon 27-Feb-17 20:52:28

Norfolk lives just down the road from us in Arundel.

durhamjen Mon 27-Feb-17 20:48:42

Duke of Norfolk doesn't like living in Norfolk. He lives in Sussex! His other house is in Yorkshire.
What would he do if Norfolk went independent? Would he have to renounce his title?

grannypiper Mon 27-Feb-17 20:45:10

paddyannhaud yer weesht, who are these commissioners who said we can stay ? France, Spain and Italy have all said they would block any application by Scotland, which part dont the snp get ? And who is this "we" when you say we have always considered ourselves European ?
You say for our country to work how it should and how we want it to work we need 100% control but at the start of the post say the EU would make 5-8% of the laws, so you would never have 100% control !
P.S Scotlands crime is out of control yet only today the announcement has been made that we have got to get rid of 400 coppers in the next few years. The snp working for us ! dont make me laugh

NfkDumpling Mon 27-Feb-17 18:55:25

grin

POGS Mon 27-Feb-17 18:48:49

NfkDumpling

All that AND your 3 'brave patriotic citizens' were shot by the police.

Life sucks.

NfkDumpling Mon 27-Feb-17 18:15:44

You think you have less control? Try living in Norfolk or Cornwall.

NfkDumpling Mon 27-Feb-17 18:09:34

And the reason for my trying to lighten the mood with appeals for independent for Norfolk is that, like many other areas on the periphery of England, we see money whizzing past us, often in the direction of Scotland, but only a few coins being dropped on us in passing.

Cherrytree59 Mon 27-Feb-17 18:04:51

Scotland does have a Queen Elizabeth II.

She is Clyde Built like myself. smile

NfkDumpling Mon 27-Feb-17 18:04:26

Oh dear paddyann. Such vented spleen! You consider that you are in an abusive relationship which you most reasonably want to be released from - and then try to assure us that you want to stay friends? Doesn't sound like it.

rosesarered Mon 27-Feb-17 17:48:15

Gill am glad the 'gaun yersel'! Was a compliment from Jane ( I have no idea what it means but does sound a bit like a battle cry.) grin
'Blether' yes, can work that one out!

NfkDumpling Mon 27-Feb-17 17:42:23

I've been back spacing too! Shan't bother now!
