Quoting breaking news in the Guardian. Davis is quoted as saying...

“The government is clear in its aims: a deal that works for every nation and region of the UK and indeed for all of Europe – a new, positive partnership between the UK and our friends and allies in the European Union.”

Feeling a bit in shock at those words, as at no time have I felt they are at all clear in their aims. The regions of the UK are disaparate with very different needs and fears. The nations of the UK have very different views of what is best for them, Scotland in particular being very forthright in stating their opposition to what is planned. Finally, what can he possibly mean by a deal that is good for all of Europe? Is he cynically saying EU members will be glad to see the back of us?

"Now that the divorce papers have been filed, can we children choose which parent we would like to live with"

Letter in Guardian

EU are going to give us the right to have EU passports, whitewave, so we should be able to choose.

rosesarered Fri 31-Mar-17 09:39:20

MaizieD you should be ashamed of yourself for those comments 08.31.36
You say and I am sure that all you Leavers will be full of glee when people are killed in Europe as the result of a terrorist incident etc etc.
Think about it before posting next time!

rosesarered Fri 31-Mar-17 09:41:03

Yes ww am sure that anyone who wants to can go and live in Europe ( if you have the skills to offer them.)

rosesarered Fri 31-Mar-17 09:42:25

Many EU countries will also welcome retired people ( as long as you have the cash to support yourself).

whitewave Fri 31-Mar-17 09:46:27

rose I think maizie was speaking ironically. Does that help you understand what she was saying?

whitewave Fri 31-Mar-17 09:47:19

rose I merely repeated an opinion to show what others are thinking.

Welshwife Fri 31-Mar-17 09:47:45

There is a lot more than just going to live in Europe*Roses*. Just as EU citizens are worried about the position they will be in once the Brexit takes place it is the same for UK citizens in EUrope.

Jalima Fri 31-Mar-17 09:49:40

whitewave hmm very generous thought, but what kind of mind would think that, assume that someone would else would think that, then put it in print?
It is quite shocking, ironic or not.

whitewave Fri 31-Mar-17 09:50:50

Irony is often used to shock.

Jalima Fri 31-Mar-17 09:56:47

No, it was just plain nasty, not put in an ironic way.

By golly, this has all brought out the worst in people hasn't it.

rosesarered Fri 31-Mar-17 09:58:09

ww I would prefer maizie to answer for herself, as it was a pretty horrible thing to put on the thread ( the use of irony doesn't mean you can put anything you like on here) and it was directed at 'all you Leavers' which means on Gransnet.

rosesarered Fri 31-Mar-17 09:59:36

Jalima yes, it certainly has done, the rhetoric has got nastier every day.

whitewave Fri 31-Mar-17 10:02:50

As you wish.

Bobbysgirl19 Fri 31-Mar-17 10:06:40

No irony in vile comments. Disgusting!

whitewave Fri 31-Mar-17 10:10:00

Blimey what a lot of wilting violets there are on GN. Do show some gumption.

NfkDumpling Fri 31-Mar-17 10:11:30

Just looked back to see what Mazie had said and first found the posting with the graph. No one was interested in the EU because there was no point. We were stuck with it. Like a ball and chain it was just something that was there to be moaned about. Then came the referendum and the chance of freedom!

As to the second posting. Words fail me..

rosesarered Fri 31-Mar-17 10:19:30

ww because Maizie shares your own political views you defend her post. That says a lot.

petra Fri 31-Mar-17 10:21:19

MaizieD In which case it might make the eu look at their own security, after all they seem to have taken their eye off the ball in the past couple of years. Bit too late now, the skills we have in this field take eons to build up. They know they need us on this score.

whitewave Fri 31-Mar-17 10:24:09

Don't be silly rose. You are adding 2+2 and making 5 I merely explained what I thought maizie had done in her post.

rosesarered Fri 31-Mar-17 10:40:32

Nothing silly about it at all ( though I can understand you wanting to distance yourself from those comments.)
Hopefully, there will be no more posts along those lines.

whitewave Fri 31-Mar-17 10:44:30

It is interesting though if you actually analyse what it would mean if Britain refused cooperation in security with the EU.

I think it is highly likely that the very scenario that maizie outlined could well occur, if it is true that our security is second to none and we withheld the information. Although we would of course never know that we had done so.

Ana Fri 31-Mar-17 10:47:56

I am sure that all you Leavers will be full of glee when people are killed in Europe as the result of a terrorist incident...

You actually believe that's a likely scenario do you whitewave? What a horrible, nasty way to think...

rosesarered Fri 31-Mar-17 10:48:33

That will never happen, we are part of Europe and terrorism is a huge threat to all.

GracesGranMK2 Fri 31-Mar-17 10:51:22

ww because Maizie shares your own political views you defend her post. That says a lot.

That is just ridiculous Roses. Of course we all agree with people who share our views. You have a little group who will always support you. I have to admit I don't think the leavers will be full of glee but I do think they will go back to their standard complaining and blaming everyone but themselves.
