All eyes are on the G7 and Syria and speculating about how Russia (and Iran) will react after Trump's missile attack.

Meanwhile a US warship is heading to waters off North Korea just as a very important date in the North Korean calendar approaches.

Never mind 'beware the Ides of March' how about beware the Ides of April. Trump and KimYong Un facing off against each other?

nigglynellie Sun 16-Apr-17 14:53:05

I think our government whatever it's colour is better than NK! Even the SNP are better than Kim Il Jung and his gang! or perhaps you don't think so paddyann?
Just bye the bye, this country isn't alone in selling arms, the French aren't backwards in coming forward in this respect to name but only one, but I guess worldwide the UK is the most wicked! Goes without saying really!!!

paddyann Sun 16-Apr-17 13:27:37

AND THE UK GOVERNMENT IS OF COURSE WHITER THAN WHITE? Mrs May was doing the rounds selling arms ,were they as ornaments? Our government is every bit as "dodgy" as those mentioned .They just cover it up better .Or their PR is better at making us( not all of us) believe them .

petra Sun 16-Apr-17 12:58:29

I think the time to worry is if Kim Jong Un ever leaves North Korea. After all he certainly won't want to be there if/when the preverbial hits the fan.

Anya Sun 16-Apr-17 12:01:15

No of course not DJ

I just thought it would be ironic if it had been a nuclear launch and the launch site and those working in WMD blew themselves up!

gillybob Sun 16-Apr-17 11:49:14

If it looks like a duck and it quacks, then it probably is a duck

Aaaaah Anya but if you still think it's a pig then it's a pig. wink

Seriously NK really scares me. Their leader is a complete lunatic who I can't imagine would have a second thought about launching the mother of all nuclear missiles if he was able to (which I suspect is only a matter of time). The most frightening thing is that he is so unhinged that he has no moral compass whatsoever and wouldn't give a second thought as to the consequences.

whitewave Sun 16-Apr-17 11:39:14

They have never ever responded to threats. So unclear how they would work this time. Indeed they generally have the opposit effect and push NK further down the military road.

rosesarered Sun 16-Apr-17 11:31:36

Threats to NK is what I envisgae should be done, probably best by China ( if they cut off trade then NK would be sunk)
Threats are likely the only thing that would make NK pause for thought.
They have now seen the US explode a very powerful bomb in Afghanistan ( a show of strength) that will hopefully make NK think twice as well.
The difference in stable givernments having nuclear missiles, as opposed to unstable ones like NK should be obvious.

Rigby46 Sun 16-Apr-17 10:09:06

Standing behind UN resolutions? Tell that to the Palestinians.

whitewave Sun 16-Apr-17 09:54:31

Johnson's embarrassment knows no bounds.

durhamjen Sun 16-Apr-17 09:50:54

'The foreign secretary, Boris Johnson, urged North Korea to abide by UN resolutions and end its quest to develop nuclear weapons. “We have been here before but continue to monitor the situation carefully,” Johnson said in a statement.

“We stand alongside our international partners in making clear that North Korea must adhere to UN resolutions designed to secure peace and stability in the region and stop its pursuit of nuclear weapons.” '

Maybe the message from the UK would be more believable if we were not intent on replacing our nuclear missiles with more American ones. Standing behind our international partners, not alongside.

whitewave Sun 16-Apr-17 09:49:51

So rose what do you envisage something must be done to be??

durhamjen Sun 16-Apr-17 09:44:51

Anya, did you really want ordinary North Korean people to be blown up by a nuclear bomb?
His nuclear bombs have greater power than Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

rosesarered Sun 16-Apr-17 09:10:17

Sitting on Trump as you put it, ( he doesn't make these decisions alone) would not neccessarily be a good thing.
NK has to be reined in. China will have to be a big part of it no doubt, but if it fails then the US has no choice but to step in for their national security.

rosesarered Sun 16-Apr-17 09:07:04

Only just got up!
The US will have to do something if only to force China's hand on sanctions to NK
It can't be left as it is.
If NK is developing ballistic missiles ( never mind nuclear ones) that can reach The US, then nothing can be left to chance, and they have to be stopped.
There are also worries about attacks on South Korea.
Doing nothing is not an option.

whitewave Sun 16-Apr-17 09:02:12

rose if you had listened to Rifkin this morning, he suggested that the panic may well not be over, as America has the capability - and probably did so in this case- of scuppering the missiles launch.

I am hoping he is wrong as it gives the world some breathing space to try to get China to use its influence and for someone to sit on Trump.

rosesarered Sun 16-Apr-17 08:57:13

Panic over for now.....but what next, NK cannot be allowed to go on testing until they get it right.

Abonet Sun 16-Apr-17 08:53:22

He is about as far from a lame one though as it is possible to be.
His power is immense. Too much power for one person.

whitewave Sun 16-Apr-17 08:42:31

Oh snap anya

whitewave Sun 16-Apr-17 08:37:04

rigby

Quack quack. Oh look a duck!!

Anya Sun 16-Apr-17 08:29:25

Rigby I agree. If it looks like a duck and it quacks, then it probably is a duck!

Occam's razor.

whitewave Sun 16-Apr-17 08:21:57

Rifkin suggested that the US may have cyber- scuppered (my words not his) the missile to make it explode. Apparently they have that capability!!

So panic over folks. There is someone in the US who can press a button and make sure not a single missiles can do its evil job. Perhaps they will turn their attention to Syria now?

Abonet Sun 16-Apr-17 08:00:15

It is perfectly possible to somewhat hide high IQ and appear a buffoon to further your own ideals. Think of Boris.

Rigby46 Sun 16-Apr-17 07:24:57

LD I didn't know whether to sob or laugh hysterically when I read your posts. Where on earth do you get your information from? Trump an IQ of 160? Well for starters even if that were true, (hahahahaha} IQ is simply a measure of how well you do in an IQ test - it says nothing about the sort of emotional, strategic and intellectual intelligence that one would need to be a great leader and president and a successful politician, Have you ever really listened to how he speaks? His sentence construction? His poor grammar, his limited vicsbulary? His repetition of phrases? And that's before even considering the content. He's jumped into Syria because he's failing to get what he wants domestically - he then gets applause and accolades for this and now the world is a scarier place as he looks for more of this. His latest domestic ED was to make it harder than ever for women to obtain contraception or abortion. He's a misogynist, nepotistic, evil, stupid and dangerous, golf playing sorry excuse for a man let alone a President ( God help us) who is taking the world to hell in a handcart - and he's not fit to lick Obama's boots

Anya Sun 16-Apr-17 06:56:52

Really pleased that the North Korean missile launch exploded on take off. That was the perfect result really. Not need for Trump to retaliate, yet. It's a pity it wasn't a nuclear missile launch though.

The perfect solution would be for the Democratc People's Republic of North Korea (or is it the People's Democratic Republic of North Korea [all very Monty Pythonesque]?) to blow itself to smithereens wink

LD don't believe everything you read in the press!

LuckyDucky Sun 16-Apr-17 06:05:02

Anya, Trump has an IQ of 160.

Being in commerce he's learning. He's doing more for the US than Obama; The much vaunted Obama Care has turned out to be full of graft.

Just as well Hilary Clinton didn't sell uranium to N Korea; she sold it to the Russians. shock

We don't know how the NK population manages to live under the fat dictator's thumb. This morning I was relieved to read and hear the missile test was faulty. Handy that, wasn't it? wink
