Did anybody feel sorry for her yesterday? Or embarrassed? Or, like me, annoyed that she was so ill prepared and frankly incompetent.
She "misspoke" apparently. hmm
She only had one job to do.
And before anybody says the poor dear had to give eleventy billion seven interviews -she is a professional politician it's what she does.
What compounded it was her tone of voice -like a primary teacher talking to a very stupid child, trying not to lose her patience but clearly just about to. Especially as she was talking such nonsense.
With talent such as Yvette Cooper, Chuka Umunna, Michael Dughan and others (even Ed Balls!) to call on why does the Labour campaign wheel on choose someone like Diane Abbott to score an own goal?

Haha lovebeige you're right there, wasn't it eating a bacon sarnie for Ed Miliband? grin that and tripping up after his tv interview with Joe Public.

durhamjen Thu 04-May-17 13:09:42

Who would employ her? She has over £30,000 in her register of interests since the last election, so someone must.

lovebeigecardigans1955 Thu 04-May-17 13:09:29

I believe it's the tradition on the run-up to any election that a Labour politician shoots themselves in the foot.

GranVee Thu 04-May-17 13:08:44

Trisher I absolutely agree with you. Funny how everyone is jumping on this. She made a mistake and yes she should have just said it will be in the party manifesto instead of digging herself into a hole. She made a mistake get over it. Look at strong and stable Teresa May. Never answers a question and surrounds herself with party activists. Refuses to meet Joe Public and stage manages her "visits" out in the community. I despair sometimes I really do.

durhamjen Thu 04-May-17 13:03:16

Silly comment, handmade. She is up for being sacked now, along with all the other MPs from the last election.

Luckylegs9 Thu 04-May-17 11:46:09

Unbelievable that she gets paid for her total incompetence. She makes the most horrendous mistakes and blames the interviewer, she doesn't practise what she preaches, ie. Private education etc. She is laughing all the way to the bank, who would employ her? It woud be laughable if it wasn't so serious, can you imagine her and Corbyn, meeting world leaders, apart from Trump of course, now that would be interesting.

handmadedogsweaters Thu 04-May-17 11:39:09

She can`t be sacked as that would be rasism. _):

Cameron hadn't made an announcement about milk, Abbott was doing the rounds to inform the country of the latest announcement to win votes, this means three questions will be asked, 1. How many more police. 2. The costs of taking on extra police. 3. Where is the money coming from,

mostlyharmless Thu 04-May-17 11:26:20

During an election campaign the media delight in putting politicians on the spot with awkward questions. For example I seem to remember an interviewer asking Cameron "what is the cost of a pint of milk? Or a loaf of bread?" I would struggle with the maths, if in the middle of an interview, as who buys milk in pints any more?
I feel a bit sorry for Diane Abbott (though why no crib sheet handy?)

Is anyone really surprised. She has been a seriously, pretty awful performer ever since she appeared on the political scene, guaranteed to speak a lot of rubbish. If we wondered in the past why she remained there the answer must be the support from Corbyn and the left but even they must have had doubts.

Oddoneout Thu 04-May-17 10:53:21

I don't like Diane Abbot and hate the way she speaks but her "misspeaking" interview looked as though she was having some sort of mental bloc and I felt sorry for her.

NameChange2016 Thu 04-May-17 10:48:33

Here is a great challenge for anyone thinking of voting Tory. All you have to do is pick five of these fifty things from the Tory track record in government and explicitly defend them. ://anotherangryvoice.blogspot.co.uk/2017/05/the-tory-challenge.html

radicalnan Thu 04-May-17 10:29:38

I do not admire Abbot in the slightest but come on, give her praise where its due, the recruitment of 250,000 extra Bobbies at 7 quid a week would be fabulous, she could then recruit nurses for a fiver.........She isn't up to the job whatever colour she is. She instantly tried to blame the interviewer when things started to slide away from her, shoddy behaviour but she is known for it.

I thought she was comedy gold and worthy of her own TV series, anything but government.

All mothers do their very best for their children and she is racist to suggest otherwise and a hypocrite for choosing for her own son things she would deny other chidren. Her trying to make a virtue out of that was reprehensible.

She must be great in the sack for Corbyn to keep her on, but then everyone else in Labour walked out on him, and if your'e looking to fill the opposition benches she certainly has the bulk for it, not heard her views on the obesity crisis but they would be fun....let's have her for Health secretary.

Rosina Thu 04-May-17 10:25:41

I can't feel sorry for total incompetence and a patronising attitude. This woman is a hypocrite of the first order. My embarrassment would be over whelming if JC, in some wild fantasy disaster, become Prime Minister. Can you picture him strutting the world stage, the very picture of statesmanship, representing this country?

When people get up and make ridiculous and impossible promises, all of which are to be funded by 'the rich', then I feel sorry for all of us - how could anyone believe them? How many really rich people are there, how long would the assets stripped from them last, and does anyone think the seriously rich would stay in this country for five minutes if Labour got in? A whole load of silly talk from Dianne Abbott is just what the country needs to hear - a foretaste of what would happen, and I too will be in that cave eating...grass perhaps.

GrannyMosh Thu 04-May-17 10:17:48

daphnedill, if the Conservatives win the next election, there'll be millions forced to do that very thing! At least you'd be doing it by choice....

IngeJones Thu 04-May-17 10:15:57

I forgive her everything for the wonderful laugh I enjoyed first thing in the morning. Brightened my day smile

Anniebach Wed 03-May-17 23:07:05

Yes I am Jen, always have been, which is why I cannot and will not support a Corbyn-Momentun party . I am a member of Welsh Labour.

We have a very troubling day to morrow, Welsh Labour is fighting to hold onto 700 Welsh labour councillor seats. If we lose many then we will be in fear of losing Welsh Labour MP's come the general election. Welsh labour could not be the party with the most MP's for the first time.

Real staunch Labour, you are, Annie.

The full poster not airbrushed

Anniebach Wed 03-May-17 22:15:10

A Tory poster with Corbyn airbrushed out? We realy can trust skwalker !

Anya Wed 03-May-17 22:12:56

Yes, it was cringeworthy and she got her decimal point in the wrong place. I am not a DA fan, but I can sympathise with a case of brain freeze. Which of us has never forgotten some fact or other out of the blue? Last week I completely forgot my PIN number, a number I use everyday.

Do we need more police? That's the main issue surely.

petra Wed 03-May-17 21:50:32

Did any one see Micheal Crick interviewing people in Mansfield Re local by elections? I think it was truly some of the worst comments I've heard Re Corbyn.
It's worth a look on catch up.

Ana Wed 03-May-17 21:44:26

You're absolutely right, Iam64. The whole interview was excrutiatingly embarrassing - although not to JC apparently.

rosesarered Wed 03-May-17 21:42:35

Exactly Iam64 and you can't defend the indefensible.

durhamjen Wed 03-May-17 21:40:55

It's a Tory poster, Annie.
