Is anyone else watching or listening to the news? This sounds bad.

Penstemmon Tue 23-May-17 12:15:41

THE Manchester suicide bombing has been condemned as “horrific” and “criminal” by the Muslim Council of Britain.

It is not their fault if it is not mediated by the press.

paddyann Tue 23-May-17 12:10:44

it is anti muslim,we dont expect any one else to apologise for rogue incidents that involve someone of their faith. We accept that these things happen because people have a grudge or because they are mentally ill .The same should apply to the muslim community.

Anniebach Tue 23-May-17 11:52:10

It is anti Muslim, no need on a thread which is expressing sorrow for the dead , injured and bereaved

Luckygirl Tue 23-May-17 11:44:25

This is not a racist comment.

I despair at the low key reaction of Muslim leaders to this atrocity. They are as much under attack as anyone else - it is their religion that is being perverted in this appalling way. Manchester is a colourful multi-racial community and the children of Muslim parents will have been at the gig on Monday night and at risk or killed or injured.

We have heard from Trump, TM and heaven knows who else, with just one, low-key comment from a British Muslim organisation - I had to search for it. And have any predominantly Muslim countries been sending their condolences? - they may have, but it is not being widely reported. I cannot find it.

I really do think that the key to solving this appalling problem is for the Muslim community, both nationally and internationally to be making a huge noise about this corruption of their faith - TV adverts, posters on buses and trains and outside mosques; loud voices daily condemning this corruption, and pointing the way for young people towards peaceful Islam.

I know that a lot goes on, but we want to hear it and see it.

There will be those who will flame me for this post; but please be clear, this is not intended to be anti-Muslim; it is simply an expressed sense of despair that such corrupt folk are not being more roundly and loudly condemned from the community in which they hide themselves. Peace loving Muslims in Britain must be in despair today and my heart goes out to them.

I know that am making an assumption here about the perpetrator; but the comments from police and online seem to be pointing clearly in this direction. Even if the perpetrator is a random loony, I still think these thoughts are relevant.

How very sad it all is.

Caro1954 Tue 23-May-17 11:39:54

How can anyone celebrate the deaths of innocent children? It's beyond sickening.

Rosina Tue 23-May-17 11:35:21

How do these people justify their medievil barbarism? They distort religious teachings and are convinced that they have a 'ticket to paradise' for killing the infidel, which presumably is all the rest of us. What terrible suffering for all those affected; we must be lucky all the time to escape these atrocities; the terrorist has to be'lucky' only once to cause such grief. Those who allowed the ranting of hate preachers for so long have a lot to answer for. They will NEVER defeat us, but what a price we pay in the meantime.

Heartbreaking. So many young families just out to enjoy themselves. My niece works in a Manchester hospital and was called in from annual leave at midnight. She said it was horrific and cried all the way home from her shift. So proud of her and all the NHS and emergency services. On the positive side, I am also very proud to be a Manc after reading about all the offers of help from ordinary people. These scumbags must not defeat us.

fayzee Tue 23-May-17 11:19:14

So sad for Manchester and all the people involved in last night's appalling event. My prayers are with with you all.

Penstemmon Tue 23-May-17 11:16:16

Blodwen I understand your worry my DGD1 (11) was given a ticket at Christmas for a concert at the O2 later this year. I hope my SiL won't prevent her going.

Life is a risk. Many more people die in travel accidents than in these awful attacks. We all have to try to keep things in proportion and perspective..which I know can be so hard to do. This might help.

People have been posting photos of missing relatives on the sky news website. i hope some of them turn up somewhere unharmed

How awful. I've just watched a mother begging for news of her daughter. It's unimaginable isn't it. There are no words of comfort for those involved.

Ginny42 Tue 23-May-17 11:06:19

Very sad at the loss of so many innocent young people. Also feel sad that children and young people won't be able to enjoy the freedoms we did, and indeed our children too when they were younger. The people of Manchester showed the world what compassion is.

Blodwen1910 Tue 23-May-17 11:05:09

I am now worried as I have 2 GD who have bought tickets to the Justin Bieber concert in Cardiff. I know that the normal pattern of things has to carry on, but..........

sunseeker Tue 23-May-17 10:57:27

Agreed Penstemmon The terrorists WANT innocent Muslims to be attacked because it will draw more young people to their cause.

Penstemmon Tue 23-May-17 10:52:47

Heartfelt sympathy to all those affected by this atrocity. I hope the people harmed by this terrible event are well supported to cope with their shock, loss & injuries.

These acts of terror only achieve their long term objective if they stir up unrest and instability. The community need to stand together now and not let these wicked acts divide the nation.

I see already early this morning fascist groups like British Freedom, Britain First etc sending out messages on FB and asking people to 'follow' them. Using this appalling event to promote hate is just what the terrorists want.

sunseeker Tue 23-May-17 10:43:43

Just heard on the radio a mother who is desperately trying to find her 15 year old daughter - heartbreaking.

brileo Tue 23-May-17 10:25:21

I am a bereaved Parent, and my heart goes out to those Parents who are now having to face the future without their Child.
RIP

AlieOxon Tue 23-May-17 10:13:29

This is so terrible.
I heard that the attacker came in to the foyer through the doors which were open to let people out at the end....

Hopehope Tue 23-May-17 10:07:04

I just heard on the radio now. How shocking. Prayers and thoughts to the victims and families

Willow500 Tue 23-May-17 09:44:54

So shocked and as a music lover who has been to the arena loads of times am just horrified that someone could target such a venue when it was obvious from the artist performing it would be full of young kids. It's heartbreaking and the first time I've seen news presenters moved to tears as those on GMB were earlier.

Iam64 Tue 23-May-17 09:42:24

My city and its emergency services and inhabitants came together again last night. This was a concert for young people. Local choirs and groups of children from schools were escorted there by members of staff, I wonder if those groups are the one's some insensitively are saying had neglectful parents who let them go alone.

I feel so angry, to attack a venue where young people are congregating is beyond words. It fits with attacks on what Isis see as our unacceptable culture where amongst other freedoms, we allow our children to enjoy concerts as part of their move into young adult life.

WilmaKnickersfit Tue 23-May-17 09:38:55

The attacker was outside the venue near the entrance to the foyer. Searches would not have prevented the attack.

Luckygirl Tue 23-May-17 09:30:57

I cannot tell you how this fills us with fear. Several members of my closest family work in a context that regularly puts them at particularly high risk. I will not outline what and where for obvious reasons. The whole of my dear family and DGC are involved at times. But what can anyone do against this perversion of humanity? We are frequently very worried indeed and this has awoken those fears for us.

Those poor young people and their families.

Riverwalk Tue 23-May-17 09:30:46

From what I can tell when going into public premises, handbag searches are only cursory and would only pick-up knives, liquid, illicit drink/drugs, etc. I doubt the contents of a small bag could create much damage.

As GG said earlier, a search at the door, gates whatever, only moves the problem elsewhere - the bomber could have let it off in the crowded car park, or train station.

TerriBull Tue 23-May-17 09:16:42

The Independent on line states that fans weren't searched as they went into the concert. If this is true, I'm amazed at such an oversight. Went up to the V&A a couple of months ago and had to turn out handbag, I thought this was mandatory now. It needs to be!
