Is anyone else watching or listening to the news? This sounds bad.

It is vital that this spat with the US dos not compromise the future sharing of important intelligence. Intelligence is the only concrete way forward.

Norah Thu 25-May-17 15:12:22

Elegran, The top US diplomat in the UK has said that leaks of the investigation into the Manchester attack to the US media were "reprehensible" and will be stopped.

Sure. Those idiots and their "news".

gillybob Thu 25-May-17 15:07:02

Very sad news for my town today. Our flags are flying at half mast for a beautiful young couple who had their entire lives ahead of them. sad

My apoligies to the person,i took her the wrong way
I was just upset after hearing what happened to those innocent people.
And me and my family has alway's detested the I.R.A.
When i was younger i was terrified to go into Dublin city in case a bomb went off.

Elegran Thu 25-May-17 14:41:59

Named the killer before the generally agree 36-hour pause was up, thus forewarning his contacts and giving them a chance to skedaddle. Also published a photograph of something covered in blood, found at the scene, which could have identified someone whose family didn't even know that they had been there. Nitwits.

AlieOxon Thu 25-May-17 13:46:49

Agreed!
Police here now not sharing info with US intelligence since leaked info and pictures let US press name the killer before our news!

A junior doctor posted on Facebook that the best action the general public can take is to do a basic first aid course. Although it's unlikely you'll find yourself at a major incident you'll have your skills to draw upon in the more frequent scenario of someone having a heart attack or being hurt by broken glass.
Basic first aid training should imho be mandatory in all schools as I believe it is in several European countries.

GrannyA11i I too was there to see Brian Cox the night before with all my sons and their partners. I also considered the difficulties of evacuation. There were so many stairs and relatively narrow exits as we all left and poured out onto the streets. I am trying not to think that my whole immediate family could have been wiped out.

Like so many of the young girls on Monday our tickets were Christmas presents. My heart breaks for those who have suffered from this atrocity and I have wept so much this week.

I would like to quote in full one of the most inspirational things I heard on Sunday which I wish these terrorists could stop and carefully consider:

"The first day or so we all pointed to our countries. The third or fourth day we were pointing to our continents. By the fifth day we were aware of only one Earth."

-Sultan Bin Salman Bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud, Space Shuttle STS-51-6

As Frank Borman (Gemini 7, Apollo 8) said, "why the hell can't we learn to live together like decent people."

My daughter is in the emergency services. Because of our increased security level, she and all of her colleagues are now officially working 12 hour shifts, meaning she'll be doing even more unpaid overtime than she already does (unpaid because of her rank). Her reaction? "It's the least I can do, Mum". I am so very proud of her and all those like her, who run towards the danger we run away from.

GracesGranMK2 Wed 24-May-17 15:49:09

Unfortunately the young girl from York whose parents went to meet her, has lost both. That is her and her sibling suddenly orphaned. I have no idea how anyone would cope with that.

My DH and I were there the night before to see Brian Cox and it occurred to me it would be an awful place to be in an incident. My handbag was given a brief glance inside but DH wasn't asked to remove his jacket where a suicide bomber could wear explosives. We walked passed the box office around 10.30pm on way to car park then 24 hours later saw the news. I feel awful that I am grateful it wasn't on our night. Also I know we shouldn't let terrorists curb our activities but I wouldn't want to go to an event anywhere like that now as I am one of those anxious people who worries where the heavy lights are hanging when seated at events.

farview my thoughts are with you. So sad.

AlieOxon Wed 24-May-17 09:26:40

Unfortunately they have found Olivia whose mother was so distressed from not knowing, at her interview yesterday....

GracesGranMK2 Tue 23-May-17 22:45:56

There is also at least one young girl who has been unable to contact her parents Luckygirl. In one of my local schools her in Yorkshire, five out of seven have returned leaving two in hospital, one being operated on this afternoon. The effects will ripple out to affect so many people.

Luckygirl Tue 23-May-17 22:19:41

It is so distressing to think that there are folk who still do not know were their children are - although it seems that one has been found in a hospital with serious injuries. So sad.

adelkalawina Tue 23-May-17 22:05:27

deeply choked and do not accept about what happened in Manchester or any where in the world.
I have one dream and i believe one day it will come true {when people having the wright understand of religion. speaking in general.}

daphnedill Tue 23-May-17 21:54:51

farview That's awful. My heart goes out to all of you.

From the conversation with my daughter today, I picked up what had been going on. My daughter wasn't involved, but she was so distressed about her friend, who had treated people at MRI as a doctor in A&E. My daughter was seriously concerned that her friend is going to need counselling.

It occurred to me that doctors in Syria face this every day. What a sad and horrible world!

farview Tue 23-May-17 21:19:24

..my DIL is a practice nurse..a co-worker was absent from work today..badly injured.in hospital..her young daughter too is also in hospital with shrapnel and bolts in her thighs..her best friend...of many years died in her arms....that is the reality of last nights horrific attack on innocent people.....

starlily106 Tue 23-May-17 20:58:34

I am horrified by this. My heart goes out to the families who are bereaved, and also to the ones who have not been able to find loved ones. And so many people hurt, some of them with life threatening injuries. Most of the children who have been on tv.seem to be very shocked, very quiet and looking so sad. It was heartwarming to read how lots of people came forward to help in all sorts of ways. Some friends of my son who have cars have gone down to Manchester to help bring people from the north east back home, and it is being organised properly by the police.
I was however shocked to be told by a friend that a lad who works with them was stuck in Manchester, and couldn't get to work this morning is going to have disciplinary action taken when he gets back. Nice firm to work for!

merlotgran Tue 23-May-17 20:00:19

It's the start of the festival season so parents and grandparents have good cause to be anxious. I know my teenage DGCs are all set to go to a few.

Such a horrible day of sadness and feeling helpless sad

Iam64 Tue 23-May-17 19:35:53

He did indeed annsixty. So good to see that you visited ruby lady on this sad day. I hadn't known she was a patient at MRI, a wonderful hospital.

The news coverage confirms that the emergency services and local Manchester people responded instantly and well to this awful terrorist attack. It's clear from the media coverage that the vast majority of people are determined not to allow this to cause division amongst our diverse city. Such young children massacred or exposed to horrors we can't begin to imagine.

annsixty Tue 23-May-17 19:30:27

I watched it on the news farview he summed up us northeners and how we feel.

farview Tue 23-May-17 19:05:43

In many cases they are isolated loners who turn to this distorted worldview to justify their murderous actions. We should take the oxygen of publicity away from them.
