Indeed. It is quite terrifying.

One feels he ought to refuse to leave and should insist that the mess is sorted out.
Yet it's quite possible that that could result in legal action against him and his family leading to further difficulties with residency in their future.

Clearly the Home Office knows​ what has gone wrong, and that it was at fault, yet he is being victimised anyway.

Yes, it is this constant repetition of these mistakes that is so depressing; Dr Parsons and his wife, my friend and at least several other cases that reach the newspapers every year.

The worse thing is; not that the Home Office makes mistakes, but that having made them, they make the innocent victims suffer, rather than admit to the error.

This is another case just as appalling as your friend's, Monica.

Dr Parsons and his wife were given wrong information by the Home Office re which forms to fill in and when to submit them.
He only found out on May 16 and his current visa expires on June 11. He does not even have an MP to take up his case because of the election.

I totally agree Welshwife seems they pick on easy targets and no common sense applied.

We have over the years had several cases of foreign criminals who should have been deported when they finished their sentence being allowed to stay - as to deport them was depriving them of a family life. This criteria does not seem to operate when it is a law abiding foreign national who is deemed to be in UK illegally for some questionable reason even if they are benefitting the UK with the work they are doing.

This sort of thing happens time and time again, a friend of ours, an academic working on a Home Office research project who was legally in this country took and passed his driving test, for some reason giving him a UK driving licence meant checking on his immigration status, and the Home Office got it wrong and said he was here illegally. Although the university he worked for knew he was here legally they had to suspend him without pay and if it hadn't been for the local MP and his university boss he would have been deported.

Finally after six months, the Home office admitted it had made a mistake, that he was here legally, and he resumed his research work, burdened with a heavy debt to all his friends who had lent him money and provided a roof over his head when he was penniless.

Mind you had he committed a crime, the Home Office would have given him permission to stay because of some technical reason why he could not be deported
