Only one week to go!

For the generation most likely to vote, we don't seem very enamoured. Do we not worry about education of our grandchildren, the NHS, state pensions?

If I wake up in the middle of the night I will turn TV on.
I'm surprised GNs not done an Election Poll this time like they did last time when despite if you read the posts Remaining was a certainty, GNs voted Leave.

I'll listen to the radio all night (unless I fall asleep!). I really want to know how it will go here in Scotland and can't bear the wait.

Will vote on the day and wake up early to find out if the electorate have scored a massive own brexit goal by weakening the government who actually have to do all the complex negotiations with Europe.

I have switched off every time the GE is on the news; I really can't take any more of listening to the point scoring, insults, petty squabbles, and downright spiteful comments from both sides - all sides! If DH wants to watch I go off elsewhere - it's just unbearable and the sooner it is over the better.

As I am off to Liverpool next week for WI Annual Conference I have voted by post for the first time.
Oh the relief of not having to listen to any more waffle! It's done & dusted & no-one can now change my mind(as if anyone COULD ever make me change my mind on anything to be fair but some do try!! DH gave up years ago)

Postal votes are great. When canvassers call you can just say you've already voted and they don't call again.

We're also off on holiday next morning so shan't stay up - it'll be the first election in years where I haven't seen the dawn! And probably need to go to bed too early to get a real idea of what's happening, so will have to get all the excitement from the Today programme before we go.

whitewave, as you didn't answer my question, I will guess what it was. The answer is that I not a conservative voter. I have never voted conservative on my life. Every quiz I do shows me to be well left of centre. However I have never voted Labour either because I think, like the Conservatives, it is in thrall to a discredited and outdated ideology, inappropriate for the modern age.

I have stayed up all night at a count after spending all day at the polling station - but not any more!!

Perhaps I didn't need so much beauty sleep in those days.

I'm a bit more pragmatic. I cast my vote; walk away and don't think about it until I put the radio on the next morning. Once I've cast my vote, there isn't anything more I can do about the results so I forget about it. then seethe if the party is voted for didn't get in!

Oh yes, the old swingometer, had forgotten that, it was high tech in it's day, haha.

Better than lying awake wondering what's going on! I always like to know which constituency will be the first to declare. The race for that is exciting in itself

I'm in Canada and will be on June 8th, and so the first results will come out around 6pm local time.
It slightly makes up for missing all the excitement at close quarters. I'm normally a stayer-upper.

I used to be up much of the night observing our local Constituency count. It's a relief not to have to do that nowadays and I wait until I hear about the results on the early morning news broadcasts. Staying up all night won't change the results!

Yes, I'll be there. I always stay up, even did back in the day when I had to go straight to work with my eyelids propped open. In 2015 we'd booked a few days away before the date was announced and I watched it all unfold from the edge of a hotel bed with the TV sound turned down low (I didn't dare lie down as I knew I'd miss it all ). Apart from the sheer joy of seeing George Galloway ousted, it was one of the most miserable nights of my life.

As far as I am concerned the whole lot of 'em bore me stiff. Even the party I nominally belong to.

Normally all fired up and eager participant in election hustings. This time I am so BORED, I am avoiding all political threads and political activity, apart from the very occasional sortie on GN, when someone says something factually incorrect.

Thankfully DD has an OU exam on the morning of the 8th and we are all off to a spa for the afternoon, followed by a belated birthday meal for her in the evening. None of us will even think about the election (voting apart) until very late on the morning of the 9th.

I tried to stay awake for the last one. Fell asleep on the sofa in the end. Awake nice and early for the brilliant result though. It was my birthday too, lovely present! Not sure I will try to stay up this year as have to take DGS to school and need to at least look awake. Wake up extremely early most mornings, 4, 5, so that will do.

I will be working at the Poll Station from 6 am until approx 10.45 pm. By the time I get home I'm so wired that bed and sleep is far away. The count starts immediately the ballots are received so I may or may not see it through.

We also have to vote early morning as we are going away. Probably stay up for the first few results but not all night.

I shall stay up for the early results to come in by which time usually obvious which way it's going, but sadly I feel as you do whitewave. A few days later I will have to put a brave face on it as am organising Great Get Together for neighbours (who are mostly Tory in my street) and try and remember what Jo Cox said "more that unites than divides".
