Are you watching tonight's tv debate?

There is the leader of the Liberal Democrats, Tim Farron, leader of the Labour party, Jeremy Corbyn, leader of the Greens, Caroline Lucas, leader of Plaid Cymru, Leanne Wood, deputy leader of SNP, Angus Robertson, leader of UKIP, Paul Nuttall and someone called Amber Rudd, who seems to be standing in for the leader of the Tories.

What do you make of it?

daphnedill Wed 31-May-17 21:43:34

Unfortunately that's true Lazigirl.

My son thinks I'm a fascist, because I think there should be a "votership test". Why not? Xenophobes think there should be a "citizenship test".

I can't take democracy seriously wnen people fall for tabloid headlines and myths or vote on the basis of a potential PM's hat.

Gemmag Wed 31-May-17 21:41:34

As if we didn't know!!.

Answer to your question, NOT A LOT.

What a bunch of ??????

I'm not a posh Southerner either,( not even a Southerner) and there is a difference between accent and being able to string a few sentences together smoothly.

rosesarered Wed 31-May-17 21:38:06

Sigh,iPad.....a tiny amount not audience.

daphnedill Wed 31-May-17 21:38:04

There are millions of people outside your bubble who speak like that.

Lazigirl Wed 31-May-17 21:37:10

I agree daphnedill but I suspect it's mostly the politically engaged who watch these debates, and they won't decide the election result. Many voters may not even be aware that the PM couldn't be arsed didn't turn up to debate tonight.

rosesarered Wed 31-May-17 21:36:57

I wonder what the viewing figures will be, anything political only gets a tiny audience of the population.

daphnedill Wed 31-May-17 21:36:43

Farron usually speaks well and is a competent TV performer. He's a not a posh southerner, so I think your criticisms of his language are misplaced.

Anniebach Wed 31-May-17 21:36:25

Reminds me of the Clegg hysteria, coalition followed by end of lib Dems , history repeats and repeats, there is always a loser in a coalition

daphnedill Wed 31-May-17 21:35:20

I also have respect for Tim Farron. Unfortunately (even as a LD member), I think their campaign has been poor and there's a strong possibility that both Farron and Clegg will lose their seats. It will be a huge shame, because I think both care about their country and have good ideas, but can't drag the popularvite to their view.

Both Farron and Clegg have a great amount to contribute on a national level.

rosesarered Wed 31-May-17 21:35:06

Sorry, typo...Caroline

rosesarered Wed 31-May-17 21:34:44

Aroline Lucas and Andrew Robertson always speak well.I just don't agree with what they are saying.

rosesarered Wed 31-May-17 21:32:33

What did surprise me was how badly Farron speaks, compared to the others his sentences and vocabulary were all over the place, not impressive.

daphnedill Wed 31-May-17 21:31:15

Caroline Lucas is a one off. I don't agree with everything she says, but she's one of the few "statespeople" we have in this country.

Hopefully, when her days as an MP are over, she will be given a place in the House of Lords. For once, I think her position would be justified.

rosesarered Wed 31-May-17 21:30:54

Haha! Work together and sort out their differences? You jest?
All that shouting over each other and squabbling....thought Rudd was absolutely right in saying that's what you would get if Corbyn was propped up by others in power, a real coalition of chaos all right!

daphnedill Wed 31-May-17 21:29:00

POGS, You obviously didn't watch the same programme I did.

daphnedill Wed 31-May-17 21:28:03

X post varian. I agree. What we saw was people who could work together and sort out their differences.

daphnedill Wed 31-May-17 21:27:06

What are unreal people?

May has no interpersonal skills. She can't relate to her voters and the rumour is that the Conservative Party doesn't like her much either. The knife sharpeners will be huddling and deciding on their next move.

Even the media is coming round to the idea that Corbyn is more personable and genuine.

daphnedill Wed 31-May-17 21:23:41

It debunked the "coalition of chaos" mantra. Rudd was appalling. She came across as a bully, who shows utter contempt for the people of this country.

I don't agree with everything the other parties are advocating, but they showed core values, with which I agree and would be capable of forming a progressive coalition.

A few weeks ago, I had little time for Corbyn, but he has challenged my thinking and risen in my estimation.

PS. UKIP is history.

durhamjen Wed 31-May-17 21:20:50

Varian, did you watch Damien Green just lose votes in Cambridge? He said that the reason May wasn't there was because she was out meeting real people..

GracesGranMK2 Wed 31-May-17 21:10:43

I thought they would be able to support one another if there was a hung parliament on many issues Varian.

varian Wed 31-May-17 21:10:21

There is a good follow up discussion on the BBC news channel right now

varian Wed 31-May-17 21:08:00

Amber Rudd kept using the stupid slogan "coalition of chaos" yet what we saw was a considerable degree of agreement between five of the speakers in the debate. I preferred all of them to the threadbare coalition of the Tories and UKIP

Pittcity Wed 31-May-17 21:06:05

Amber Rudd didn't know the rules of Monopoly.

POGS Wed 31-May-17 21:04:54

Just a load of shouting over one another.

Load of squabbling kids.
