No result from Kensington & Chelsea - recount!
Books we loved when we were young
Is it rude to not finish a book club choice that was selected by someone else?
The exit pole predicting no overall majority.
No result from Kensington & Chelsea - recount!
Yes, same here. Have spent the morning teaching my grandson, and couldn't believe how much I missed on here. We have been reading about the election. He actually stayed up until after midnight.
Caroline Lucas did well, increasing her majority.
Hello Dj how much sleep? About 3 hours for me!!
That was a reaction of your posts put them on and give everyone some perspective. Just like this post it is aggressive. You are once again playing the man and not the argument just as you did last night. For hours the left wing grans happily chatted amongst ourselves enjoying the moment and then you took it into your head to butt in and disrupt it. That was our reaction. We had made no attempt to go onto the thread that you were in we left you alone to do your own thing but you didn't give us the same consideration.
So yes butt out
The speech - the only thing she didn't say was 'Nothing has changed'.
'dishing it out'.

"I so enjoyed our night gg what a happy period. No spite, nothing personal simple political chat.
"Just like Corbyn nothing personal but arguing the topic not the man what bliss it was".
Really.

" I saw it announced on ITV, POGS, so just bloody well back off!
Go and follow someone else."--
Whitewave Fri 09-Jun-17 02:15:19
"POGS we've been happily chatting amongst ourselves why don't you go and chat with your right wingers."

"POGS we've been happily chatting amongst ourselves why don't you go and chat with your right wingers."
And another one.
Is this really what Gransnet has come to.?
Left wing only can engage."---
I had asked reasonable questions but I saw no point in trying to engage in Gransnet AGAIN last night/early morning. You say there was " No spite, nothing personal simple political chat " , yes, from your side of the political divide as you were fishing it out!.
Well - She's forming a Government with DUP.
May lost Ben Gummer, the minister in charge of coordinating the manifesto, along with seven other ministers.
There is justice.
Kensington may have gone Labour.
DD has just told me that Newcastle under Lyme which I think is where the Keele students were turned away from voting although they had poll cards because the Tellers had an old copy of the electoral roll, only remained Labour by 30 votes.
Touch of the Us chads, you would have thought that as a first world country we could do better.
Do we think HM Queen is going to tell TM that she has made a right old .....up and no she will not give her the go ahead to form a new government?
One can only dream or havewebeem fooled again and she is actually going tote dear her resignation?
If someone has already said this I Apologise but can't scroll through 24 pages.
I agree with Rigby and Whitewave - when did Fallon ever have the plot?
The midddle of the road Remainers in our area fought hard to get the LibDem candidate elected in the ridiculous belief that it could lead to the democratic choice of the UK being overturned and Brexit being cancelled.
Well now they have their wish and we have a LibDem MP - though her party is powerless and hopefully our already expressed democracy will win the day in respect of Brexit.
But the result is that Corbyn holds the balance of power and his agenda is less concerned with Brexit than with the total redistribution of wealth in Britain.... Our local middle class voters had just not thought the thing through.
The plus points for me in the election are that Clegg and Salmond have been defeated and Vince Cable re-elected.
I feel for May, though she isn't a powerful orator I believe that she is honest and straightforward, and has taken on the very difficult task of delivering Brexit because it is the expressed wish of the majority of the UK electorate.
fitz be aware of this fact.
Over the decades looking back at the various government - it is outstandingly obvious that the Labour have ALWAYS managed the economy better than Avery single Tory government.
So your worries should be more for another Tory government not a Labour
Well, this is rather old but I've no doubt that plenty of similar loopholes still exist:

Mazie re printing money I take your point but there is a limit. That's all I'm saying and I fear Labour will go too far. But as I hope I made clear, I don't pretend to really know. But neither should you. We're all guessing. As to the bonuses, don't forget they are taxed at 47%. And I reckon a lot of what is left is spent here, albeit on mansions, school fees and sports cars.
^ How can we have folk who get more in an annual bonus than some may earn in a lifetime?^
And what is more,*Luckygirl*, very little of those bonuses is actually spent in our economy (so promoting the circulation of money in the economy). It's all squirrelled away in offshore tax havens. 'Trickle down' theory doesn't work.
going out now to spend and try to keep the economy thriving.
British milk, British potatoes, local eggs, Cornish broccoli, Scottish salmon etc

Apologies MazieD I'm reading on my phone and it's hard to go backwards and forwards. Where might I find it? Approx time ? Thanks
Can you ask gillybob please Nandalot, I don't know.
Does it hamper investment in the business or not?
One result of this chaos is that I think we can now regard the country as having a credible opposition.
My position has always been that economists do not agree about the best way to proceed in terms of financial policy; and I would rather go with the option that is not morally bankrupt; that has some grasp of the disgraceful financial inequalities in our society and the need to address these. How can we have folk who get more in an annual bonus than some may earn in a lifetime?
Were there any MazieD ? I missed them .
I don't think you've even bothered to read the extract I posted, gillybob
For example, it's far from clear that spending a small fortune on free tertiary education will have a significant beneficial effect on the economy.
It could result in a large swathe of the population being over-educated for the skills required in a growing economy - which may not be growing, of course, because of punitive tax rates.
They would then in all probability take their education to countries which may require them.
None of what I have said means that I do not believe that large businesses should avoid paying the tax that they owe.
Jalima, is the business tax paid just on profit after all expenses have been paid. If so the 21 per cent isn't much more than the 20 per cent I pay.
governments can't just print money and expect nothing but positives as a result.
That is precisely what Labour did in the banking crisis and averted total disaster as a result. Without it the banks would have failed and depositors left with no money. That's people like you and me, Fitzy. It very nearly happened with Northern Rock; one of the first to go under. Remember those queues of people waiting to withdraw their money before it was too late?
It's also what the tories did when the pound fell after the Brexit vote. £60billion of quantitative easing, wasn't it?
Positive results from both actions.
