The reason why I left the Labour Party Anniebach is that there is no party. It is as you say a speaker puppet run by the unions. Ed Milliband followed by the even more workable puppet JC.

Just to put the cat amongst the pigeons - it has been announced on local radio that across the country the Conservatives got just under 31m votes, Labour got just under 13m votes. Just saying (puts on hard hat and ducks behind the sofa)

It doesn't matter who is running the Labour Party. People looked at the costed manifesto and liked what they saw. They voted Labour - direction of travel is to Labour.

Harrigran I would be awfully careful about that idea. We do not know what the official said. People often hear what they expect to hear not what is actually said. Sometimes, although I am not suggesting that is the case on here, something repeated by someone to someone else and reported as a truth is a lie and there are laws to deal with deformation.

This whole conversation is a distraction. They should get in touch with the returning officer through the council if they believe any wrong doing has taken place. Talking about it on here will not resolve it.

Yes, GG. I've always felt the Tories are bottom liners. I.e. Keep costs down, keep taxes low. They seem to ignore that correct investment in our society, in our infrastructure is a wealth creator.

The politicians in tbis country have seemed not to realise that with digital media we are all talking all the time and the results are immediate. Beware facebook twitter and Gransnet - we are talking about you, politicians and not just reacting to what the press tries to tell us what to do. Times have changed.

The union official that made this statement should be hauled over the coals, name and shame the union. This was blatant scaremongering of people in fear for their jobs.

The lists are highly confidential. If there is any evidence that information has been leaked, an official complaint should be made. Somebody might lose their job, but it won't be your sister.

Nandalot, I do feel we need to hear more about the amount of GDP other countries spend. Most of the more socially democratic countries in Europe and many other besides would not see the level of spending the LP had in their manifesto as high.

The idea that the manifesto could not be carried out is just not true. Yes, some people want us to believe it is a truth and they repeat it so often that most people have believed it but it really, really isn't.

We so desperately need to invest. We are like a recluse who keeps his money under the bed and doesn't look after the house. Eventually the house will fall down. In our case we NEED to pull out that money from under the beds of the excessively more rich and we NEED to invest in the country and in skills (that's what paying Uni fees does and putting money into apprentiships does) We need to encourage modern industry. We need to give the northern towns and cities, and the costal ones, something to hope for. This creates both income and a good economy and has been an economic belief since we realised in the 30s that we could not just rely on the poor sucking up the bad times.

I would strongly suspect that that list is confidential. The only way your sister's union rep would be able to see it would be if they were actually on official duty in the polling station. Which is highly unlikely.

I am a bit that union official would have any say at all in whether or not your sister kept her job. That's a Management decision. Union officials are not usually hand in glove with Management.

The unions don't have access to those lists. If your sister was really worried that she was being stalked, she could have spoilt her ballot paper. Sorry, but it's ridiculous.

I am so happy this morning. Based on what they have already done, I had become genuinely concerned about what the Cons would do next if they had a large enough majority, so am very relieved that they have had their wings clipped.

It's this bloody list that she was most concerned about. Apparently the rep told her that they know exactly who did not vote by who's name/number/barcode was not crossed off.

Thank you Annie. That is a clear explanation. I agree with both those policies, but to my mind they are less important that the protection of our NHS, protecting social care, protecting, the vulnerable, nationalising the railways. I know you can agree with those.
