The exit pole predicting no overall majority.

whitewave Fri 09-Jun-17 08:48:22

gilly are you suggesting that somehow the union will get hold of the ballot paper and then even though they are totally anonamous work how how your sister voted. Blimey that is the stuff of not just hysteria but of madness

daphnedill Fri 09-Jun-17 08:47:56

The "young" aren't that stupid ab. They weren't that impressed by the promise of no fees. Brexit (and the idea of a hard Brexit) was a much bigger issue plus they are more concerned about austerity than older people seem to be.

This has been the death knell of Blairism. The young have clearly voted for progressive politics.

gillybob Fri 09-Jun-17 08:47:23

I don't read the right wing press thank you GGm2.

Who the hell is "putting the young down" ?

If a party were offering me the world on a plate I would sure as hell vote for them too.

"Wealth that we had....." Don't make me bloody laugh. I have never had or seen and ounce of wealth in my entire life. I think you are speaking for yourself there!

Anniebach Fri 09-Jun-17 08:46:50

GG, here's a surprise for you, some people do not depend on the press or Internet blogs, they think for themselves.p, try it

GracesGranMK2 Fri 09-Jun-17 08:46:34

We had a lovely chatty night with no personal attacks and then we are joined by those who have nothing factual to say so set about others. Why am I not surprised.

Nandalot Fri 09-Jun-17 08:45:48

The Labour Manifesto was clear. Despite what the opposition said, it was costed. I think that's one of the reasons for the appeal. Let's hope it's the end of sound bite politics.

GracesGranMK2 Fri 09-Jun-17 08:44:33

I am perfectly calm Annie - and very happy. You are obviously not.

Anniebach Fri 09-Jun-17 08:43:39

No use trying to have a calm discussion Gilly sadly, too much hysteria

gillybob Fri 09-Jun-17 08:43:37

Can anyone tell me what happens to the ballot papers after they are counted? That is the only thing that might put her mind at rest. Also how do they know who has/hasn't voted? There is a bar code on the slip that is traceable surely.

GracesGranMK2 Fri 09-Jun-17 08:42:30

The Labour Party was suggesting that we use some of our wealth to give the younger generation what we had. A decent and free to access NHS; free Education if you have the ability to take it up; increased skills education to suit the needs of today; benefits that don't discriminate against them, etc., etc., and all this without spending more of our GDP than Canada does.

You should know what you are talking about and stop getting your 'knowledge' from the right-wing press before you start knocking things gillybob.

You had your vote - it's a democracy. Everyone else's vote counts equally to yours. How dare you put the young down in that way. It is exactly the type of "I know better than the young" statement that makes them realise that Labour want to look after the whole population - the Cons only want to look after the wealthy and those who steal our taxes.

gillybob Fri 09-Jun-17 08:41:18

Exactly Anniebach

Anniebach Fri 09-Jun-17 08:38:52

The young were promised no tuition fees and students who have started will get their money back, so I think more a case if bought votes than the young developing an interest in Brexit

Ginny42 Fri 09-Jun-17 08:38:17

Unless we get out there and get ourselves elected to Parliament Gilly, the only way we can influence things is by finding the party most closely aligned to our beliefs and principles and engaging in the process. Sorry you feel so embittered by it all.

Ginny42 Fri 09-Jun-17 08:36:00

Well it's wrong that someone should be so intimidated as your sister Gilly; fortunately you will be able to put her mind at rest that it is a secret ballot.

gillybob Fri 09-Jun-17 08:35:55

As a matter of interest does anyone know what happens to the ballot papers and postal votes after the counting? Where do they go. How long are they held for? Etc.

gillybob Fri 09-Jun-17 08:34:30

No wonder the turn out of the young was so high. JC was promising them the world on a plate. Quite who was going to pay for it was another question entirely.

As I said before, I hate them all.

Nandalot Fri 09-Jun-17 08:34:12

I'm a bit behind here, just catching up so really pleased, Paul Nutall pushed into third at Boston!,,

gillybob Fri 09-Jun-17 08:31:56

I really wouldn't call someone saying "we know who votes and who doesn't" as education Anya I would call that scare mongering.

She is extremely quiet and very very shy and would be very easily intimidated by a bossy union rep (or anyone for that matter).

whitewave Fri 09-Jun-17 08:30:42

Farage still arguing for a hard Brexit -yeh like ukip won how many seats?? So that was a huge vote for Brexit wasn't it?

Mamie Fri 09-Jun-17 08:29:28

Very good news that the turnout of 18-24s was so high. Bodes well for the future -especially the consequent loss of influence of the irresponsible gutter press.

whitewave Fri 09-Jun-17 08:29:21

gilly then you need to put your sister straight. The ballot is secret.

Anya Fri 09-Jun-17 08:28:09

If she's so quiet and shy and politically illiterate, she might simply interpret someone trying to educate her as 'badgering'.

GracesGranMK2 Fri 09-Jun-17 08:27:28

No one at all available from Conservative HQ for the Today programme - they had to make do with IDS.

gillybob Fri 09-Jun-17 08:26:45

I hate the whole lot of them . JC, TM, the so called Labour Party (who are really the public sector unite party) and the Tory toffs. So there.

Ginny42 Fri 09-Jun-17 08:26:32

Pamela can't see any pigs flying but you're right. smile
