I remember, many years ago when I used to hitch home from Cornwall, I had a lift from a couple of teachers who were introducing some sort of music therapy into schools [this was nearly 50 years ago]. Leicester schools in particular used to think that music was a very important part of a childs education. The comprehensive school my children went to had a fantastic amateur dramatics department and some pupils went on the be members of successful bands or worked in the theatre. All children should have the opportunity to try everything to find out what they want to do and are good at.

Corbyn wanted music to be taught in every school, like it used to be, trisher. My son taught music for over 20 years. Then his school was made an academy, and the music was considered unimportant.
Strangely enough, up here, you don't hear music teachers saying there are too many music teachers. They work with each other and tell each other if there is any work available in their schools.

No, Midlands ( North midlands if that makes sense) but could be the case all over.

Music is rarely taught in schools now. When I started teaching it was common for even primary school children to be offered a musical instrument. We had peripatetic music teachers who taught in many different schools-long gone!

I don't think that petitions in this case have any clout ( against forming an alliance with the DUP) you may as well say ( if Labour had enough seats) that there will be a petition against Corbyn asking the SNP to help out. Of course, anybody is free to demonstrate or start a petition for anything they like.
Have heard on the news that it's not actually a coalition, but that the DUP would support the Conservatives in certain policies.

My son's response to the result was that May got her job back, but he won't get his back - redundant head of music, like all the other music teachers he knows in the area. Music doesn't matter in places like the North East.

Well my DIL is a consultant and voted Labour because she knows how much the nurses she relies on everyday have suffered under the Conservatives. Of course there are people in every profession who will have different political beliefs, but Washerwoman if your DD is unable to talk about her political views openly perhaps it is because she knows in her heart that her colleagues (particularly the low paid classroom assistants) have suffered and will continue to suffer. Lack of parental support is often linked to low income families who just struggle on a daily basis with multiple problems. Behavioural difficulties need better staffing levels not worse ones. Your daughter is entitled to her views but to imply that she is somehow being threatened by other staff with differing views is ridiculous. Perhaps the truth is that she knows what is happening and would change her mind but she is still trying to please you and stick with your political beliefs while every day in her working life she sees the problems they have created. No wonder she stays silent.

Schools being understaffed and losing teaching assistants is nothing to do with political affiliation.
It's all to do with the fact that schools are losing staff because their finances are being cut by the Tory government.
It's going to happen to Tory schools, just as much as schools in Labour areas.
How do you know that your daughter's school is not going to lose staff next year, Washerwoman?

Apologies again Tegan.DDS words here.'Works in an inner city school in a deprived area,as with many schools facing cuts to the budget which will impact on the staffing structure and curriculum budgets.'Voted Conservative for many reasons.Defends her right to do so.Generally doesn't trust Corbyn or his proposals .Absolutely loves her job and no plans to leave teaching.
Not everyone in the NHS is a Labour voter either it may surprise you.Though granted most are.Know a consultant and a soon to be retired nurse.Both feel chucking more money at the NHS not the answer.Needs a radical overhaul. Nurse says the amount of waste is shocking.Consultant feels with ageing, increasing population ,and more and more things medically possible need a different expectation of what can be provided.Know a GP who feels a small charge should be implemented on missed appointments if patient not notified non attendance.Again just a different viewpoint and probably not a popular one.

By the way, I think Ruth Davidson is amazing and have done since the referendum debate where imo she annihilated Boris Johnson [unfortunately the BBC audience didn't seem to agree with that, though]. If she was standing as an MP, as with Kenneth Clarke, I would vote for her. She is a force of nature.

But, isn't it problem if children have behavioural issues and then the classroom assistants helping them are taken away as a result of lack of funding. My daughter, who loves teaching, is thinking of leaving the profession because class sizes are growing, they don't have enough text books [my DD is actually buying them with her own money]. I,too, talk to my daughter daily and it upsets me to hear how tired and disillusioned she is by it all. Most of us [in our family] were going to vote LibDem this time but then realised that the country couldn't go on in this way and we all voted Labour as we needed some sort of hope. Ditto all of DD's friends who work for the NHS. I honestly don't see how anyone in the teaching profession could feel optimistic about another 5 years of funding cuts [in real terms, that is]. DGS's school is due to lose 2 teachers over the next couple of years, and it's only a small village school.When someone as dedicated and hard working as my daughter is feels she can no longer cope, there is something badly wrong.

DUP -I wonder if we will ever find out where the DUP got £435k from to run their Brexit campaign - most of it spent on posters etc on the mainland and nothing in NI which voted remain.
