Looks like a deliberate revenge attack on Muslims in Finsbury Park, North London.

newnanny Mon 19-Jun-17 14:02:03

A sickening attack; whatever the motivations the actions are the same to drive a van into innocent people with the intention of harming them. In this instance I just heard on Sky News the police were on the scene in 1 minute so there is no way having more police would have helped. The sad truth is no matter how many police we have they cannot be everywhere. I just wish all victims of terror a speedy recovery. At least this attacker was caught so will face justice.

Well, Veda didn't predict it on Gnet, Riverwalk, unless she's had a name change. I've just looked her up. This is her first post on this forum.

Did they but realise it, these imbeciles play into the hands of organisations like ISIS who are trying to generate hate and unrest in otherwise stable countries in the West. Let's not go there....

Anya Mon 19-Jun-17 13:34:52

Ah ha! All the racists are coming out of the woodwork now aren't they?

We are a mongrel race, invaded over the years and more latterly, as we acquired a more civilised veneer, accepting the victims of war, famine and outright genocide. So those who consider themselves 'English' have no right to glorify in the murder of innocent people.

Ilovecheese Mon 19-Jun-17 13:34:16

"Indigenous people"
iceni?

mcem Mon 19-Jun-17 13:32:52

Put the Great back into Great Britain.
England no longer England.
'Indigenous people'.
Can't you, who post these comments, see that you are stoking the flames of intolerance and hatred?

mcem Mon 19-Jun-17 13:24:01

Predicted what exactly?

Riverwalk Mon 19-Jun-17 13:20:07

Where did you predict this Veda - do you have a link?

I suspect you're just a trouble-maker and trying to fan the flames.

Veda Mon 19-Jun-17 13:11:19

I predicted all this would happen back when Blair was in power. Unfortunately I'm being proved right. I foresee a civil war in the future. Our "leaders" have opened up that situation.

No one could ever say our Police Force were anything other than exceptional. They respond as soon as humanly possible, some even giving their own lives, as do the Firefighters. I don't know why you think more police were Coukd have stopped it happening. . The guy that drove into the Muslims was probably mentally ill, now they have so few hospitals that deal with mental issues lots of people are out there that need specialist help. Some weeks ago it was announced that a extra amount of money was to be allocated to this neglected area of health, it's a lot too late for many, but a start.

Welshwife Mon 19-Jun-17 12:51:30

Who are the 'indigenous' people Ruth?
The Britiah Isles have been invaded so many times over the centuries it would be interesting to know who you consider to be indigenous.

Riverwalk Mon 19-Jun-17 12:50:45

Indeed roses but the Met is said to be short of 700 detectives - how are they to investigate all the recent atrocities plus Grenfell Tower, without increased resources?

MaizieD Mon 19-Jun-17 12:50:03

I think the police are a complete red herring in this and I bet charleygirl wishes she'd never mentioned them.

It's the expression of hatred, violence, and lifting of the veneer of civilisation which is so worrying. I strayed into a far-right thread on twitter and the views being expressed and agreed with were just vile.

Lillie Mon 19-Jun-17 12:47:00

Looks interesting viewing this Thursday.

No amount of extra police can stop a man in Wales getting into a van, driving somewhere else and then running down pedestrians.

Sadly, throughout history, there has always been intolerance of "outsiders / strangers/ interlopers" in all parts of the world by some of the more bigoted members in all societies. It would appear today that ease of travel, world crises, there has been vaster movement of people than ever before - hence the emergence of multiracial societies which arouse feelings of hatred in certain prejudiced factions of society. No way can England ever return to the days we knew as children when, in my northern town, there were no "foreigners" - as my Gran would have said.
Today social media has a lot to answer for in the spreading of such fanaticism in all races and creeds.
Thankfully we CAN experience harmony and peaceful coming together as was demonstrated by the community spirit after the horrendous tower block fire. Let us all embrace this heartwarming example and teach our grandchildren tolerance and understanding of others.

Riverwalk Mon 19-Jun-17 12:39:21

Here! Here! hmm

The far-right ranters never get it quite right! grin

Chrishappy Mon 19-Jun-17 12:38:40

The point of more police I believe is relevant to the conversation. More police on the beat in neighbourhoods can gather much more information of suspicious behaviour before attacks are carried out. My DIL is a police officer and I know the police are stretched to the limit. She hardly ever gets a break even to eat! She is often held behind by a couple of hours after her 10 hr shift is over as they are short staffed. So yes more community policing could help prevent these attacks

Riverwalk Mon 19-Jun-17 12:34:30

My goodness...media ranting, celebs ogling and the country just hysterical....bring out the candles, get Lily Allen in and Brooklyn Beckham to run the country

Ruth you seem to be a bit confused between two entirely different events. confused

Ruth1958 Mon 19-Jun-17 12:23:38

Democracy is dying because of the BBC and press propaganda machine....the nation has just got more and more brainwashed!

Ruth1958 Mon 19-Jun-17 12:20:36

Here! Here! Well said....not even the Church of England will speak up for England...what hope if the indigenous people don't?

Ruth1958 Mon 19-Jun-17 12:18:43

If they are indeed a tiny percentage...then the MAJORITY need to speak up!

Hm999 Mon 19-Jun-17 12:18:23

Imo a racist attack is a hate crime, and this deliberately targeted one religious group. Other terrorist attacks have targetted the general public, anyone who was there, and were generally made by people who'd attended terrorist camp.

Why this lack of tolerance? Think Brexit and Trump, even GE2017. These made overt racist comments acceptable. Successive governments and the media targeting the vulnerable have added to our intolerant society.

And thank goodness for our public services

Lillie Mon 19-Jun-17 12:17:36

^ I did not state that they should be on every street corner. Those employed are very overstretched because of the 4 recent attacks.^

*Charleygirl, you have explained what you meant and I have now understood. I'm guessing your mention of Boris, and cuts, was what made several posters, myself included, think "not another NEWS thread turned into a political debate." That was not my intention at 5.30 am when this attack was announced.

Ruth1958 Mon 19-Jun-17 12:17:19

I think you know the answer to that one...trying to be clever looks silly!
