800 are being evacuated , cladding a fire risk

whitewave Sat 24-Jun-17 10:41:17

They are now looking at the gas pipes which were fully exposed throughout Grenfill Tower. It was a time bomb.

Anniebach Sat 24-Jun-17 10:33:44

27 tower blocks in London now found to have the same faulty cladding

Anniebach Sat 24-Jun-17 10:29:13

4,000 been evacuated

Anniebach Sat 24-Jun-17 10:25:43

No concern shown by the Corbynites, surely the reason can't be Camden is a labour controlled council, which means above criticism

Charleygirl Sat 24-Jun-17 10:24:55

Anya I agree with you, damned if they do and damned if they don't. I think that a bit more thought could have gone towards re- housing the very vulnerable.

Anniebach Sat 24-Jun-17 08:38:25

If as a resident said , the work was carried out ten years ago that was 2007 , a labour government

Anniebach Sat 24-Jun-17 08:04:20

All very confusing, a chap from the block said this morning the work was carried out ten years ago. He also said something about the fire doors.

So were these faults caused by cut backs by the council? No fire checks had been carried out before the Kensington fire?

Most unusual all those people being evacuated and no police there

If concern over fridge freezers will all these be replaced.

Weaver fairy, how frightening for your brother in law, worried about his mom. Only the fire board will know if it is over reacting. Heart goes out to all those affected.

Anya Sat 24-Jun-17 07:02:11

Damned if you do and damned if you don't. Better a bit of inconvenience than a repeat of Grenfell - or do people believe lightening can't strike twice?

As this story was unfolding I first thought the Council was over-reacting and causing chaos and disruption.

However after they'd received the opinions of the building & fire inspectors I think they had no choice, bearing in mind the London Fire Commissioner said the other day that there are fires in tower blocks every day. sad

They need to just get on with panel replacement and be extra careful in the meantime. Moving everyone out is inhuman.

WeaverFairy Sat 24-Jun-17 00:50:04

They should have known about the shoddy workmanship when it was refurbished. My father-in-law prevented a workman from incorrectly wiring his kitchen - he was a qualified electrician which the workman clearly was not. He got the supervisor and explained but clearly it went no further.

The fire bods told us they think the council have overreacted. They have certainly made no arrangements at all for vulnerable people. When I spoke to the guy on the emergency line he said he had no way of contacting people at the scene even!

It is a Labour council anniebach.

They only got the results this morning and it was the fire officers who deemed the building to be unsafe. I think the Council have done a pretty good job - they couldn't possibly block book hotel rooms before knowing if they would be required.

Some people feel it is an over-reaction and I can understand them feeling put out about having to leave their homes for up to 4 weeks - I think anybody would feel disorientated and disgruntled. However, in my view, better that than run the, admittedly slight but nevertheless possible, risk of people being trapped in another terrible fire.

The report was that it was not necessarily the cladding that was the major issue but something to do with internal cabling, inadequate fire doors and other internal issues. I expect there is also a certain amount of concern bout the fridge/freezer situation - I believe there have been several other reports of fires caused by them.

Hi All,

Just joined so I could let you know - Camden council gave no warnings at all. We found out when my brother-in-law phoned as he had seen it on the news. He had put his Mum to bed in one of those blocks - she has advanced dementia and is unable to get out of bed without help. Whilst he got back in his car to go back to her flat, I phoned the council emergency line, who told me if they got no answers at any flats they would break in.

I frantically told them not to do so but to wait for him as she would be terrified and unable to understand what was happening.

Just heard my husband answer the phone to him so will find out if she is OK hopefully.

Your choice to post when and how you wish, in keeping with GN rules

I think I'll now retreat to my original position vis-a-vis my responding to your posts.

Anniebach Fri 23-Jun-17 22:29:49

Meow Rigsby. All councils throughout the country have had a week to work out what to do should it ever happen to them..

Didn't google because there are so many here who know so much sbout London

I hadn't thought of Corbyn, enough having to when he dashes before cameras, was said on the news the cladding was fitted by the same firm

petra Fri 23-Jun-17 22:28:56

Spot on Rigby46 your post at 22.20

Rigby46 Fri 23-Jun-17 22:25:04

Well I'm on my way to a full house - Jeremy, communist, comrade, publicity, cunning, evil, plan, domination,

Deedaa Fri 23-Jun-17 22:20:20

If the 10 o'clock news is anything to go by it looks like the usual chaos.

Rigby46 Fri 23-Jun-17 22:20:14

Well he is very very cunning ( as well as unutterably evil with his plan for world domination)

petra Fri 23-Jun-17 22:15:24

I reckon your right, Rigby46

Rigby46 Fri 23-Jun-17 22:05:23

( just thought I'd get in first with Jeremy bingo)

Rigby46 Fri 23-Jun-17 22:04:32

They have not had a week - the council were told this evening by the fire service. Anyway, I expect it's all Jeremy's fault and he has planned this along with his communist comrades to get himself some more publicity grin

petra Fri 23-Jun-17 22:02:38

It's now 4,000 people in London.
