Aimed at the Wrong People?

Was Jeremy Corbyn's speech at Glastonbury aimed at the wrong people?

The well-heeled and privileged people who paid £238 each for their tickets, teepees or glamping extra, running into the thousands of £, cheering him on and lauding him are not the disaffected living in poverty whom he champions. Do they not see the irony in this as they go back to their middle-class comfortable lives, recycling their rubbish and urging us to 'look after the planet'.

This is from last year but I am sure it is just the same this year. Brand-new tents left behind, mounds of rubbish to be cleared up by others - who cares who clears it as long as they don't have to soil their own hands. Someone will do it - probably on a wage less than a quarter of what most of them will earn.

'Takers of the system' as the commentary says:

And the fence - the fence!! Perhaps Donald Trump could take a lesson on how to build a huge fence to keep out the hoi-polloi, the less than desirable who cannot afford a ticket.

Who said that Glastonbury is 'The Most Bourgeois Festival on the Planet'? Was it someone from Iron Maiden? Can't remember now but I do remember someone mentioning it.

Oh, the irony.
Obviously Jeremy Corbyn didn't understand that, nor did the crowds he was addressing.

niggly surely there was nothing to prevent her praying in private and also talking to survivors??

nigglynellie Thu 29-Jun-17 13:51:20

Not me annie, although I have religious doubts I am certainly not an atheist. To me praying in private for the poor souls who were caught up in this terrible catastrophe, instead of grabbing a photo opportunity to prove to the population how much much you care, is a far more sincere gesture. Pied Piper indeed!

devongirl Thu 29-Jun-17 13:26:28

Better than TM who doesn't say anything at all most of the time!

norose4 Thu 29-Jun-17 12:43:26

Pied piper

norose4 Thu 29-Jun-17 12:43:13

Agree Annie ,I do think Corbyn is well versed in pulling the wool ohhps sorry playing to the crowd & saying what they want to hear, very dangerous man !

Anniebach Thu 29-Jun-17 12:18:51

This I just don't understand, Corbyn was invited by a labour supporter , no one knows if May would have attended if invited, why must leaders do publicity ,nit they don't they are critcised. Corbyn did his hug and feeling pain bit for the cameras , his choice. May attended prayers for the victim, for me she did care for the victims of the fire, he chose to hug she chose to pray, as the majority here are atheists they will ridicule this sadly

devongirl Thu 29-Jun-17 11:46:59

The thing is thoug, we don't know what would have happened if TM had been invited, whether she would have accepted or not, and if not, why not.

norose4 Thu 29-Jun-17 11:44:44

Well who knows Devongirl, but that's not really the point is it, the point is some can do no wrong & othes can do no right in various people's minds, that was my point really , I would have had respect for Mr Corbyn IF he had said ( for example) this is neither the time nor the place to make a political speech but thank you for the offer, I will toodle of to my own cuckoo land now?

devongirl Thu 29-Jun-17 11:39:35

Really is it likely that TM would have accepted? So tomparison is pointless surely.

norose4 Thu 29-Jun-17 11:14:47

norose4
I've nearly 'got up out of my seat' several times after reading some of the postings.
But thankfully I restrained myself grin

norose4 Thu 29-Jun-17 10:47:59

The point is , TM would with out a doubt have been slated given similar circumstances . Which ever party people support , it is human nature to do down the opposition. I abhor this hero worship evangelistic outlook, it usually ends badly , think Billy Graham !!

norose4 Thu 29-Jun-17 10:42:35

He could have said no it was neither appropriate nor the time or the place. I would have more respect if he had said no, & it is more than likely that he knew he would be invited/ allowed an opportunity to make a speech .

suzied Thu 29-Jun-17 10:23:32

JC , nor anyone else "needs" to make a speech. he was invited by the organisers, and accepted. People chose, or not, to attend said speech. people can chose, or not, to agree with it. End of.

NannyMcPhU Thu 29-Jun-17 10:10:38

Whatever!

norose4 Thu 29-Jun-17 10:05:01

Nanny I tried not to reply, but I just will point out that there is only one person being rude & it is not me. You have your point of view ,it is not the same as mine .that is what this site (I spelt that correctly I think) is supposed to be about .

NannyMcPhU Thu 29-Jun-17 09:44:53

Be as rude as you like norose4 you are obviously as unable to follow my thought processes as you are to punctuate correctly. But I don't hold that against you.

norose4 Thu 29-Jun-17 08:34:35

Plus in the unlikely event that Theresa May had done the same thing one can only imagine the derision & vitriol that would have come her way, would have been quite a spectacle though?

norose4 Thu 29-Jun-17 08:27:42

Ummm not being rude Nanny, but I think you have missed the point,.thats exactly what I am saying ,the fact that I find it devious is not the point

NannyMcPhU Thu 29-Jun-17 08:25:22

Well you're entitled to free speech too norose4 - pity you don't extend that right to those you disagree with.

norose4 Thu 29-Jun-17 08:22:03

It is what I believe Nanny, there is always a price to pay JC chose to use his freedom of speech to make a speech , he faces criticism because of that, that's the price & gamble he choose to make I call it cynical manipulation clever, but cynical & devious not traits I admire

Elegran Thu 29-Jun-17 08:20:56

The price for free speech is surely having to be tolerant of other people's free speech, just as the price of every right is an equal and opposite responsibility.

NannyMcPhU Thu 29-Jun-17 08:18:05

Stop spouting silly clichés norose4. I asked about free speech.

grannylyn65 Thu 29-Jun-17 08:15:41

well in T in the Park they send giant dump lorries and good stuff to charity . passed the area amd never seen anything like.. Acres.

norose4 Thu 29-Jun-17 08:15:15

Nothing is ever free, there is always a price to pay in one form or another
