its a ridiculous project while half the country is suffering from austerity ...or even if we weren't.The added cost of phase 2 of crossrail is a slap in the face to the rest of us..it appears only LONDON is important to this government and others before .We need to all contact our MP's about this though as its an English matter our Scottish MP's dont get a say..we will howerver STILL have contribute to the costs ...

I've yet to hear an ordinary member of the public say that the think HS2 is a good idea. The general reaction of those who have mentioned it to me is that the time it will cut from the journey doesn't justify the cost, and that with modern technology, working time spent on the train is not usually wasted anyway. Also, it is felt that many of the journeys are unnecessary, and their purpose could be achieved perfectly well via conference calls or Face Time type methods.

It would be interesting to hear some reasoned arguments in its favour though.

Cross Rail in London is being actively planned shows a huge disregard for the greater part of the UK

What's new?

I listened to an interview with Andy Burnham (Mayor of Greater Manchester) on Channel 4 news the other night and he just about summed it up for me.

As one who lives far from the South East triangle I cannot see the cost effectiveness of this investment. It will make only a small difference to journey times over current rail services. To use cost saving as excuse for stopping electrification plans in South Wales and the North when HS2 is going ahead and North-South Cross Rail in London is being actively planned shows a huge disregard for the greater part of the UK.

Many people in the path of HS2 do not want it either.
