Very much needed.

First happy thing to report.

Unison have won their case making it illegal to charge employees for employment litigation. Introduced by the Tories in 2013.

The judges quite rightly said it was wrong to make it difficult/impossible for anyone to resort to law.

Those who paid will be reimbursed.

You just couldn't make it up! 50 years ago if the privatising of all those bodies had been forecast it would never have been believed that any Govt could be so stupid and short sighted.

Eloethan Wed 09-Aug-17 10:17:03

Further to durhamjen 's comment re the selling off of NHS Professionals, here is an article from Global Research which contains some very alarming information re the privatisation of a multitude of services, which is gathering apace and the latest of which is the Court bailiff service.

www.globalresearch.ca/you-wont-believe-what-the-british-government-is-about-to-privatise-next/5603229

It is easy to sell of all the assets of a country for short term gain. But if, using the household analogy that the Conservatives are so fond of, you sold off everything in your home that enabled you to live safely and productively most people would think it a pretty short-sighted and stupid thing to do.

“We haven’t put forward a lot because, as we know, there are differences within the cabinet about the sort of Brexit that we are heading for and until those differences are further resolved I think it’s very difficult for us to have a clear position,” said Fraser, who now advises businesses on Brexit"
...this is very reassuring, isn't it. so much for taking back control...it seems it's just the government that are deciding what's going to happen, except for the fact that they haven't agreed amongst themselves what it is yet...

Anybody got any gold bullion under the bed?

durhamjen Mon 07-Aug-17 22:43:08

"A tax expert, Professor Richard Murphy from City, University of London has joined the Technical Committee of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) project. He will provide expertise to develop new standards for the ways businesses report their payments to governments which will be incorporated into the GRI Standards. According to GRI, there is increasing pressure on big organisations to reveal more about their payments to governments. “Greater transparency can be one tool to help ensure public and stakeholder confidence that companies employ fair tax strategies and demonstrate their contributions to society in the regions where they operate”, stated the project proposal, which hopes to provide guidance that goes beyond any new legal rules. Professor Murphy is credited as the creator of country-by-country reporting, which is now being promoted by the OECD to improve tax transparency for multinational corporations."

Something else for the government to think about, as well as Brexit.

Not surprising really. Parents trying to keep their children fed, let alone healthily, doesn't rate highly with May.

Just seen this. Serves him right.

Tegan2 Sun 06-Aug-17 23:40:23

Has anyone read Jamie Olivers interview in todays Times magazine? He's absolutely furious with Theresa May and, even though he has always aimed to be apolitical [is that the right term?] he said he voted against the government this time and he has never voted before. It's all about the policy he developed with Cameron regarding childhood obesity and, as he's said before, May is the only PM that has taken no interest in his attempts to make our children healthier.

Of course, if governments did what they were supposed to do, there would be no need for NGOs to have boats in the area.

durhamjen Sat 05-Aug-17 23:22:06

Huffpost is on an NGO boat which is off the Libyan coast trying to save refugees from drowning.
C-Star, the boat that has been hired by a rightwing group supported by Katie Hopkins is trying to stop the NGO boats from picking up refugees.
I despair of rightwing groups that do things like this. Obviously petra knows more about these people than I do.

Tegan2 Sat 05-Aug-17 23:10:13

Katie Hopkins deserves to be a target for decent person methinks. I despair of living in a country where people give her the time of day.

durhamjen Sat 05-Aug-17 22:41:36

Possibly because it isn't in the papers I read.
Is that the first time you have mentioned it?

petra Sat 05-Aug-17 22:36:16

durhamjen
Katie Hopkins is an easy target for you, but I note that you haven't spoken about Italy prosecuting NGOs with assisting illegal immigrants.

The modern day shipwrecker, Katie Hopkins.

Tegan2 Sat 05-Aug-17 17:41:45

I've just rewatched two programmes. Michael Woods series about King Alfred which chronicled how hard it was to unite the country and Sam Willis's series about shipwrecks. The first one made me sad to think of how dis united we are now. The latter series showed how people in power did everything they could to further their own ends even though it meant hardship [and even death] to everyone else. [eg it took a long time to make ships safe because the ship owners made more money from ships sinking than it did if they completed the journey; and sailors who refused to work on a ship that they'd been signed up for because they realised the ship was unsafe were imprisoned]. All I could think was that nothing much changes sad.

durhamjen Sat 05-Aug-17 17:06:35

Apparently there is big support for the idea among backbench MPs. They obviously don't know they are not all invited.

whitewave Sat 05-Aug-17 16:58:10

Idiots!

Fields of Gold, for Theresa.

Must say it sounds enormous fungrinwonder what they will sing?

durhamjen Sat 05-Aug-17 16:34:00

At least moggonomics isn't trying to hide itself from others, in case anyone finds out about it.
By invitation only to between 100-200 people?
Corbyn's really worried!

whitewave Sat 05-Aug-17 16:30:40

Bit like the "moggonomics" site. Last time I looked it had a massive 2000 followers grin

durhamjen Sat 05-Aug-17 16:10:28

This is brilliant! A Tory MP is organising a festival to rival Corbyn at Glastonbury. Good luck to him.

Have you seen Charlie Chaplin's final speech from The Great Dictator, Tegan?
