Some good news for Brexiters. The whisky industry is hoping that it will be able to negotiate its own trade deal with countries like India and maybe China.

The economy is looking very gloomy I must say. The Brexiters are lining up to try to convince us it is false facts just like Trump does. Well we have news for them, we aren't fooled this time around.

Swiss aren't in EU. Big betting companies like Ladbroke etc are hoping to make a mint post Brexit with deregulation. They all have offices in Gibraltar btw.

Probably getting the offices cheap because of all the ones which are becoming vacant.
A lot of various EU companies etc think Brexit will not happen - that couldd be the reason or it could be they hope to get trade from all the people who will be using UK as an offshore tax haven.

I see that the private swizz bank, Julius Baer are opening branches in Manchester, Leeds and Glasgow.
Perhaps they know something that the majority of posters here don't.

I notice that the vast majority of Europeans are optimistic about the EUs future, and the numbers are rising.

That puts paid to Farage's insistence that it is a failing institution.

If a British person flies from Rome to Paris, he will not be checked. If a British person flies fro Paris to Madrid he will not be checked.
If a British person flies from London to Madrid he will be checked
If an Irish person flies from Dublin to Paris he will be checked.

I really don't understand why posters are saying the EU is undemocratic or unelected.

Obviously they may be carrying out long checks on passengers from other non Schengen countries (we don't know) but why should the UK press be concerned about that?

I would count expecting families with babies and young children to wait 4 hours in passport control queues as being quite badly treated.

And they are doing more - but UK papers will only print headlines making it look as if UK citizens are being badly treated.

We have noticed recently at the ports that some cars take a very long time to get through passport control when leaving UK and boarding a French boat. Even before ant terrorist attacks places such as the tunnel would have periods of doing thorough checks on all the cars - including looking under them with with mirrors - we assumed it was more to do with drugs then as swabs were used on parts of the car too.

I'm intrigued to know how you know it's just the British.
We still have EU passports. Just because the plane lands from the UK doesn't mean that everyone on board is from the UK.

The Paris terrorists came from Belgium - so checks there were instigated at the border but the whole idea of Schengen was to get rid of all the necessary checks - but that was pre terrorist times - it my well change within the area.

I find the EU very democratic and also open to the people - the parliamentary debates there are very interesting with many politicians speaking in good English.

I agree with with you mangran about the lack of democracy in the EU - that was a big influence in my leave vote.
