As Newcastle gets £500000 ot fight right wing extremism
www.chroniclelive.co.uk/news/north-east-news/right-wing-edl-newcastle-racism-13402419
there is also news that the cities 2 universities are still attracting EU students and there are increasing numbers of students from the Middle and Far East coming here. Will the money really help? And what can be done to mend a fractured society? When I see the EDL demonstrating and yelling in a city centre crowded with all nationalities I can only see more trouble ahead. Can you educate people to understand the benefits these students bring?

They certainly wouldn't have anyone on minimum wage living in them, Chewbacca. Minimum wage £15,600 a year, so not much left to live on.
Possibly not anyone under 35 as the top up of housing benefit would not leave them much to live on. How much does a room in a shared house cost in London?
£65.00 a week in Durham for housing benefit for the under 35s.

It is a shocker, isn't it Primrose? I was a bit hesitant at posting such a long list but I hate having url links that you don't know the provenance of.

Primrose65 Mon 07-Aug-17 23:01:37

I think it really helps to see it as a long list like that. It's pretty shocking really.

Chewbacca Mon 07-Aug-17 22:52:33

All of the below MPs registered themselves as having received at least £10,000 per annum from their rental properties. Apologies for the huge post but I know how much we all dislike potentially dodgy url links, so I've copied it across:

Or have the English flag in the window

Primrose65 Mon 07-Aug-17 22:46:16

Not allowed to own a white van if Emily's your landlady.

Anniebach Mon 07-Aug-17 22:37:26

Lady Nugee aka Emily Thornberry rents out three in London and lives in a fourth,

Chewbacca Mon 07-Aug-17 22:32:34

Dunno durham but there are currently 76 MPs, cross parties, who are either renting out other properties in London or are MPs for London constituencies and who are getting an extra income from being a landlord.

Wonder if they rent to under 35s? Or do you think that their rents are so high that only high earning professionals can afford their rents?

Primrose65 Mon 07-Aug-17 22:32:13

Maybe the MPs would be forced to sell their rental properties to their tenants, Venezuela style.

durhamjen Mon 07-Aug-17 22:21:59

And we pay for them to live in London, Chewbacca.
Perhaps MPs should have to recompense the taxpayer.

durhamjen Mon 07-Aug-17 22:21:04

"John Bibby, policy officer at the housing and homelessness charity Shelter, said: “It’s beyond unacceptable to see tenants being compared to rodents, and an especially grim irony when nearly one in nine private rented homes has recently had a pest problem.

“We’re amazed this advert was posted in the first place, and it should be taken down immediately. Between shelling out for colossal rents, being forced to live in flats crawling with mice or rats, and having the threat of eviction hanging over them, many renters have enough to deal with without this sort of rubbish.” "

Chewbacca Mon 07-Aug-17 22:17:18

Interesting that many MPS are also landlords isn't it? Wonder how many of them will be willing to rent their proprties out to the homeless, next time they have a vacancy?

"According to Guardian research, almost a third of MPs are now letting out their houses or flats, with 196 declaring rental income on the official register of interests this year. The majority of those are earning more than £10,000 a year from the property, topping up their basic MP’s annual salary of £67,060.

The Conservative party has the highest number of landlord MPs at 128, meaning 39% of Tory MPs are landlords, compared with 26% of Scottish National party MPs and 22% from Labour."

durhamjen Mon 07-Aug-17 22:09:58

What has been written since shows why some people don't care about tenants being called vermin.

This is what some companies think of tenants now. I can't imagine that they would have dared to produce such literature if they hadn't been encouraged to look down on tenants, if there were not so many people who owned hundreds of houses to rent out.

durhamjen
Is there a reason you felt the need to post that link again.
You posted it on Saturday 5th.
It didn't have much impact the first time, quiet the reverse.

Primrose65 Mon 07-Aug-17 21:49:25

I think that company are laughing at all the free publicity they've been given by the 'outrage' in the press. It would have cost them tens of thousands to get that sort of national coverage. Keep on posting the links durhamjen It's exactly what they're hoping for.

Anniebach Mon 07-Aug-17 19:17:37

She lives in Islington , so two in Islington, one in Guildford and one in south London

Primrose65 Mon 07-Aug-17 19:12:48

devongirl Ignorance is bliss.

Lady Nugee's rental property is in Islington, it's not one of her private homes. It's an ex-local authority house too and they evicted the tenant who was living there and allowed Labour Party activists to move in. Power to the people indeed.

devongirl Mon 07-Aug-17 19:01:58

I'm well aware of the law, thanks - luckily I had an agent who ensured the property was looked after for me to come back to when I returned to England.

devongirl Mon 07-Aug-17 18:59:43

Primrose "A lease is a contract and so if you breach the terms of your lease, legal action could be taken against you. The court could order you to pay damages, legal costs and/or put right any breach if it is possible to do so. "

Anniebach Mon 07-Aug-17 18:57:05

No thanks Trisha, I am not into Corbyn speak .

Emily .thornbury aka Lady Nugee is joint owner of three London properties , one which she lives in , moved in the same time and same terrace as the Blairs, one in Guildford and one in south London, I don't know if these include the council house her husband bought to rent out to her aides

trisher Mon 07-Aug-17 18:47:04

Yes and I will call you Comrade

Anniebach Mon 07-Aug-17 18:45:21

Do we address you as your majesty Trisha ?
