As Newcastle gets £500000 ot fight right wing extremism
www.chroniclelive.co.uk/news/north-east-news/right-wing-edl-newcastle-racism-13402419
there is also news that the cities 2 universities are still attracting EU students and there are increasing numbers of students from the Middle and Far East coming here. Will the money really help? And what can be done to mend a fractured society? When I see the EDL demonstrating and yelling in a city centre crowded with all nationalities I can only see more trouble ahead. Can you educate people to understand the benefits these students bring?

How am I a Champagne socialist ? I do not receive one penny from the properties, and with draw your allegation of tax dodging please.

maryeliza54 Tue 08-Aug-17 10:53:17

Jalima (that's an unusual name). I agree with your post re proper names. Sorry I started this but was just a bit puzzled and surprised. Back to business.

durhamjen Tue 08-Aug-17 10:52:22

You said "The money I make on them..."
That's the same as Emily Thornberry.

trisher Tue 08-Aug-17 10:51:46

Mmm I don't understand that-you don't own them, you don't get paid for the work, but you make money on them (tax dodge?). It's not quite the picture you have painted in the past Annie- Champagne socialist then. Arguably you are doing a job that someone could be paid for. So I don't know who you are doing it for but after all that criticism of Emily Thornberry I do wonder and I think you should be careful-people in glasshouses you know.

Anniebach Tue 08-Aug-17 10:51:44

She doesn't own the house she lives in?

durhamjen Tue 08-Aug-17 10:50:10

The only property that Thornberry owns and is rented out is a flat in Guildford, Surrey, jointly owned with her family, that needs to be declared.

Anniebach Tue 08-Aug-17 10:49:24

No .jen, I am not making one penny. I said I am not paid for this work.

Anniebach Tue 08-Aug-17 10:46:38

Do make up your mind Jen, you have called me a Tory, a Tory spy, told me I am not a socialist .

durhamjen Tue 08-Aug-17 10:45:32

But you are making money out of rental properties, just like Emily Thornberry.

You are complicit in taking houses off the market that other people in the area could have bought, just like Emily Thornberry.

Of course you didn't demand compulsory purchase of unused properties from the rich overseas owners to rent out to the poor. You probably saw the hypocrisy in that.

durhamjen Tue 08-Aug-17 10:40:34

Not at all, but others do.
Annie is Labour.
Emily is Labour.
Why is Emily criticised, but not Annie?

Anniebach Tue 08-Aug-17 10:39:27

Because I do not stand up in parliament and rabbit on about housing. i never once joined you in demands to take properties from one group of people to give to another. I don't do hypocricy Jen. I have eleven rental properties, I don't own them, I don't get paid for the work relating to them , the money I make on them is not to pay for private education for the sons of the properties owner , or rented out to the staff of the owner , unlike Emily . Not one of the houses was ever social housing, unlike Emily. And think I will soon have another two for rent, we are undecided on selling or renting them. And I refused to occupy one.

petra Tue 08-Aug-17 10:36:52

durhamjen
So are you advocating that only Tory voters can 'administer' rental properties?

gillybob Tue 08-Aug-17 10:26:44

Oh I could die laughing grin

durhamjen Tue 08-Aug-17 10:23:23

Why do you criticise Emily Thornberry for having three properties to rent out - all shared - but you have ten rental properties that you 'administer', Annie?

Anniebach Tue 08-Aug-17 10:23:21

Jen you often call her Maybot Fact

durhamjen Tue 08-Aug-17 10:19:16

Exactly, Annie. It's well known I do not respect May. But I do use the name May, which is what she uses.
If I really wanted to show disrespect for her I could choose to call her Brasierbot.

Anniebach Tue 08-Aug-17 10:18:32

Maryeliza, you did say - a silly inappropriate name

Jalima1108 Tue 08-Aug-17 10:17:08

Perhaps everyone on the political threads could take a pledge to call all politicians by their proper names?

So Emily Thornberry
Theresa May
Jacob Ree-Mogg
Jeremy Corbyn
John McDonnell
Boris Johnson
Etc

Instead of by their married names (unless preferred) or daft nicknames. If everyone does it no-one can grumble and posters could get on with discussing important issues like landlords and landladies and how much each party member owns.
The kind of debate without which the country could not function.

Or you can just ignore my post as so often happens and carry on.

Jalima
(That is my real name btw)

Anniebach Tue 08-Aug-17 10:15:53

Like calling May , Maybot?

durhamjen Tue 08-Aug-17 10:15:41

Good example, maryeliza.
Those criticising Thornberry have never done that on here to my knowledge. They know it's a way of showing disrespect, however they like to tart it up.
Both my daughters in law use their own names rather than their married names.

maryeliza54 Tue 08-Aug-17 10:00:23

What is silly and inappropriate IMO is calling someone by a name they don't use and never have. Surely it's possible to criticise her without doing that? Lots of women these days don't use their husband's surname - would you call Yvette Cooper Mrs Balls?

trisher Tue 08-Aug-17 09:59:16

Women choose the name they use Annie it is the 21st century you know. It's not the 1900s and women stopped being their husband's possession long ago.

trisher Tue 08-Aug-17 09:57:34

Emily Thornberry has 3 rental properties, Anniebach administers 10 rental properties but calls her a hypocrite-Kettle/pot/black isn't it?

Anniebach Tue 08-Aug-17 09:55:55

How is it name calling to use Thornburys married surname?
Is a husbands surname silly or inappropriate?

maryeliza54 Tue 08-Aug-17 09:53:16

And is it really fair for just one misjudgement to damn someone completely? How many politicians would survive that?
