Two raving nutters locking horns - heaven help us all.

durhamjen Fri 11-Aug-17 12:10:03

Counterpoint, roses has never been and would never be in thatposition. That's why she can't envisage it, and has no sympathy for those who are.

keffie Fri 11-Aug-17 12:08:42

And they said that the Bushes were war mongerers! Mind you Trump not just a war mongerer! He is nuts with it

Babette Fri 11-Aug-17 12:07:34

The Child POTUS needs deflection from his Russia investigations. Mueller is making progress. The house of Monnafort has been raided. Money laundering.
I have been in the US..at better times. Now the US thanks to this charlatan is a kleptocracy and even more worrying a "family business" run by a Mafia family.
It is extremely worrying, even more though as our PM is his "best friend". I cn only hope that this nightmare ends sooner than later for All our sakes.

counterpoint Fri 11-Aug-17 11:52:50

It's all this worrying about being perceived as weak that drags people into unnecessary wars. Why worry about it? It is perfectly adequate to say (as is obvious) that the USA is armed to the teeth and attacking it would be unwise. And it is pretty obvious that everybody already knows that. No need for Trump's posturing, nor for sailing nuclear capable warships up and down the Korean peninsular. Isn't that at least as aggressive as anything NK is doing?

rosesarered Fri 11-Aug-17 11:48:48

Looking at things differently is alright you know, we can all have another perspective on a problem.

rosesarered Fri 11-Aug-17 11:47:34

Perhaps that applies to us as well ww grin

rosesarered Fri 11-Aug-17 11:44:29

Hopefully, at this time anyway, a 'show of words' will be enough to satisfy honour on all sides.

whitewave Fri 11-Aug-17 11:43:08

Blimey rose I am at the banging head against a brick wall stage. I give up.

rosesarered Fri 11-Aug-17 11:41:24

The US has to come out with a statement in regards to the threats issued by NK......a difficult balance.
If it is placatory then the US is perceived as weak ( all around the world) if it is equally strongly worded it could be regarded as immflamatory, but many countries, especially in the Far East respect that.

whitewave Fri 11-Aug-17 11:37:50

rose I doubt that he can see it. Of course, what made you think that I thought otherwise?

whitewave Fri 11-Aug-17 11:36:47

If you want a discussion about NK politics then go ahead. I think you will understand very quickly that we can easily distinguish between NK as a existential threat to the row and the way they conduct their internal social policy and economy.

counterpoint Fri 11-Aug-17 11:36:46

SK should be most worried about action by Trump that precipitates a response from NK, which could be disastrous for both. There is no evidence for NK being a threat. Consider how many countries have been invaded by the USA? And how many countries have been invaded by North Korea?

rosesarered Fri 11-Aug-17 11:35:29

Can the big ego that is Kim Jong Un see further than the end of his penis ww ?

rosesarered Fri 11-Aug-17 11:33:49

Petra grin....I know!

whitewave Fri 11-Aug-17 11:32:22

petra I was not arguing about NK and the suffering that it's people are enduring. I am arguing about how to contain NK so that the row does not suffer the result of two silly egos.
If you think that sabre rattling us the way to go then good luck with that.

The rest of the world do not agree thank goodness except perhaps people with big egos like Trump who can't see any further than the end of his penis.

rosesarered Fri 11-Aug-17 11:32:07

Whatever we all think of Trump as POTUS, we also know that NK has been a real worry for decades, and now they have achieved nuclear status, who knows what could happen.
SK must be especially worried.
Sanity will prevail ( hopefully) by both leaders, but 'containing' Kim Jong and cohorts will prove impossible I should think, from now on.

whitewave Fri 11-Aug-17 11:29:15

The USA used to understand it, China certainly does as does Russia and the EU. South Korea is crying out for it as is Japan.

Sabre rattling is the complete opposite tonwhat is needed.

counterpoint Fri 11-Aug-17 11:28:29

Of course NK is not a threat. Why all the posturing? Because that is how you ensure that other people know not to attack you. In what circumstances would it make sense for NK to use its nuclear missiles? None. Yes, they've got them - in their position, I'd want to have them too.

petra Fri 11-Aug-17 11:27:31

Give up, * roses* in the nicest possible grin
Your arguing with people who obviously have never read any books written by people who have escaped NK.
And, believe that Kim Jung Un isn't a threat to world peace.

whitewave Fri 11-Aug-17 11:27:12

Not if it is contained it isn't. That is the lesson some don't understand

rosesarered Fri 11-Aug-17 11:25:52

We are not discussing politics in the UK counterpoint there are many threads for that.
You appear to think that NK is not a threat to the world.....it is.

whitewave Fri 11-Aug-17 11:25:49

rose their threat to Guam was no surprise to those security advisors who follow NK. They reacted after the "fire and fury" speech.

Trump is showing naivety in his reaction.

whitewave Fri 11-Aug-17 11:23:50

If we look at recent history, NK is reacting because of Trumps rhetoric. Prior to Trump NK was " contained" by diplomacy and sensible reaction. Trump was always going to be a problem.
8 months into his presidency and crises after crises has been the character of his governance.

rosesarered Fri 11-Aug-17 11:23:08

NK is not a threat......really?!
Is that why they are announcing to the world their plans to have missiles aimed at Guam ( or near Guam) by the end of this month?
Why all the posturing and sabre rattling by them......and does anybody doubt that they do have nuclear weapons?

counterpoint Fri 11-Aug-17 11:21:37

Laugh as much as you like rosesarered, but I'm exceedingly thankful that I do not depend on state support, with the risk of sanctions for not attending an interview when you are too ill or haven't been told about the interview. Or being told that you are fit to work shortly before you die. Or resorting to suicide because of the treatment you have been subjected to. I don't think any of that is funny.
