In the news this morning - one in three Jews are considering leaving the U.k because of racism.

83% believe the Labour Party are not doing enough to support them

Excellent diversion from topic Trisha and Jen, but the vegetarian bit was rather over the top

As Illtellhim has so crassly illustrated, there is a vast spread of belief in Chrsitianity, from devout Catholicism through to the Wee Free, so why should we expect all members of the Jewish faith to all have the same beliefs? I went to a school in a very Jewish area, and within my group of fellow students there were some very devout, kept dietary laws, etc., and others who described themselves as 'Jewish by race rather than religion' who would respect dietary laws in the presence of older member of their family, but would eat non-kosher, and the odd bacon sandwich as they wished. Nigella Lawson is Jewish (I think?) and doesn't seem to worry about what she eats. The point I am trying to make is, we should not be lumping all Jewish people together, any more than Christian or Islamic believers, so surely it is obvious that some will feel more uncomfortable than others? Some Muslims are presumably feeling the same discomfort, and it must be very uncomfortable to be Catholic in some parts of Northern Ireland. Nobody, irrespective of their religion, should feel unwelcome, and it is regrettable that a number of Jewish people do feel this way.

Oh why don't you pop over to .Israel and sort it all out Trisha , take Corbyn with you and do this country a favour , we don't want communism

Anniebach Mon 21-Aug-17 12:51:17

If James was the blood brother of Christ wonder why when dying Christ appointed John to take care of .Mary , perhaps James was too busy growing his veg in his allotment grin

trisher Mon 21-Aug-17 12:50:21

Oh if only you could suggest actions and solutions instead of moaning Annie

Elegran Mon 21-Aug-17 12:48:59

If we go into the theology, his death was predicted and necessary. I wonder whether illtelhim hates her all-powerful God for arranging that it would happen, as well as all Jews because some of them thousands of years ago were the instruments that brought it to reality? His words from the cross included "Father, forgive them" - if God was asked to forgive them, why is it thought by anyone to be STILL a reason to hate, to be more vindictive than God?

Anniebach Mon 21-Aug-17 12:46:47

Oh if only you could stop being so patronising .trisha

Ana Mon 21-Aug-17 12:45:40

(to durhamjen)

Ana Mon 21-Aug-17 12:44:39

What proof do you have of that?

nigglynellie Mon 21-Aug-17 12:42:09

I have no idea as to whether Christ was a vegetarian or not but like maddyone, I find the post about Jews murdering Christ absolutely disgusting. I find it hard to believe that somebody actually posted something so inflammatory and hateful. Why on earth you would think it, never mind print it is quite beyond me!

durhamjen Mon 21-Aug-17 12:40:17

He was an Essene.

Jalima1108 Mon 21-Aug-17 12:23:59

Christ was a Jew and died a Jew - he did not invent Christianity. Had he lived he would have remained a Jew.

Jalima1108 Mon 21-Aug-17 12:20:43

mmm, sounds lovely.
I am avoiding bread so it's low-fat cottage cheese and some salad today.
Boring.
But there is a glass of wine left from yesterday, I will save that for tonight.

Elegran Mon 21-Aug-17 12:17:23

So I think it is time to go and eat my bread and my lettuce and my cold chicken (from the Tesco spatchcock piri-piri chicken I cooked yesterday. Delicious.)

Elegran Mon 21-Aug-17 12:13:49

With bread, Jalima, sofor the faithful cutting out carbs as though they are an invention of the devil could be construed as sacrilege!

Jalima1108 Mon 21-Aug-17 12:13:00

Christ asked his Father to forgive his enemies itellhim.

Elegran Mon 21-Aug-17 12:11:57

It matters more that he said "This is the new covenant . . ." which did not include old hatreds.

Jalima1108 Mon 21-Aug-17 12:11:49

I think it was a Macdonald's in fact.
Fillet 'O' Fish

Elegran Mon 21-Aug-17 12:11:04

Does it matter that much whether he ate fish? Or meat? Or Kentucky fried chicken?

durhamjen Mon 21-Aug-17 12:06:42

How do you know Christ ate fish?

Elegran Mon 21-Aug-17 12:05:57

And what branch of Christianity taught you to keep hate in your heart, Illtellhim?

Iam64 Mon 21-Aug-17 12:05:30

Thanks Elegran, that' the key point isn't it, the consensus of agreement here that any intolerance of anyone because of their race or religion is bad.

Jalima1108 Mon 21-Aug-17 12:03:26

Christ ate fish.
He probably also ate the Passover Supper which includes lamb.

There is no absolute proof that he did eat meat but there is no proof that he did not either, so we cannot say for sure that he was a vegetarian.

trisher Mon 21-Aug-17 12:02:53

All that is in the gospels isn't fact you know maddyone And a great deal of what is in has been edited and selected by the Christian church post Jesus. So it is unlikely that any reference to his diet would have survived. It is also likely that he was married and had children but that wasn't considered suitable either.
No one has supported any kind of anti-semitism, so if you would like to repost the comments you think are anti-semetic we can discuss those, rater than making unfounded general accusations.

illtellhim Mon 21-Aug-17 12:02:00

I can not forgive what I was taught, but I do just stop at hating, I am weak and have not got the strength or the inclination to do more than just hate.
