Please accept my post as a genuine question .

I have asked this question a few times before concerning Directive 2004/38 and never had a reply from anybody but you may know .

How does a country that has no ' registration ' facility for anybody entering their country , in this case EU citizens, know how many EU citizens enter the country at any one time, know whether they are financially sufficient , know the length of time they are in the country or whether they have a job in the 3 month period?

How do they then find the EU citizens that have extended their 3 month stay and have insufficient funds, no job and subsequently ask them to leave.?

I don't understand how it can possibly be implemented.

This has been enforced in France.
Ultimately though EFTA does involve the four freedoms but not the ECJ. As I said before, North sees EFTA as a medium-term interim stage to avoid the WTO cliff edge.
Seems financially prudent to me.

The government has as I said above recognised the need for migrant labour, sonwe can’t be too far away.

Workers’rights of movement and residence
Directive 2004/38/EC introduces EU citizenship as the basic status for nationals of the Member States when they exercise their right to move and reside freely on EU territory. For the first three months, every EU citizen has the right to reside on the territory of another EU country with no conditions or formalities other than the requirement to hold a valid identity card or passport. For longer periods, the host Member State may require a citizen to register his or her presence within a reasonable and non-discriminatory period of time.
Migrant workers’ right to reside for more than three months remains subject to certain conditions, which vary depending on the citizen’s status: for EU citizens who are not workers or self-employed, the right of residence depends on their having sufficient resources not to become a burden on the host Member State’s social assistance system, and having sickness insurance. EU citizens acquire the right of permanent residence in the host Member State after a period of five years of uninterrupted legal residence.

Repeated question over several threads I know but here goes. .
Again I ask this question re the EEA/EFTA being proposed as 'the route to take'.

How can you be a member of the EEA/ EFTA , when it means you have to abide by the 4 Pillars/Freedoms , the ‘four pillars/ freedoms’ of the European Union ?

The 4 Pillars/Freedoms are the freedom of movement of goods, people, services and capital over borders.

The Free Movement of People is the issue and the Labour Party and the Conservatives have said the Free Movement of People it will end.

The EU has stated we " cannot cherry pick" and the 4 Pillars/Freedoms are 'non negotiable".

Switzerland had a vote to reduce immigration recently but was told it had to 'toe the line' and accept the Free Movement of People. It did.

Unless the EU shifts it's position , totally unlikely, it is either disingenuous or naive for anybody to say we can be a member of the EU/EFTA/EEA and stay in the Single Market as things stand.

You can't be resident in France without the means to support yourself J2.

We have just been through that experience in Switzerland. There was a referendum inn feb 2014, to limit immigration. It was approved by a TINY majority (less than 1 %- even closer than Brexit). Ever since then, the Swiss Gvt has been trying to implement it as a referendum is binding in Switzerland. They reached a total impasse - the EU saying a very firm NO- either you have single market, or you don't. The price to pay (apart from lots of money and NO say) is Schengen and Free Movement - end of... If they agree for one, they will have to agree for others - simple.

I am quite shocked that some of the brexit supporting GNetters characterise all of us who want to remain in the EU as lefties.

We knew an eminent former Tory MP in his eighties, who told us, just before the EU referendum, that if the Leave side won he would never vote Conservative again.

He was a very decent principled man who felt he had been badly let down by David Cameron. He died just before the last general election and so never did vote Conservative again.

There must be many like him who feel betrayed by their own party.

Gina Miller is a very brave woman and a wonderful role model. She has been unrellentlesly attacked by the brexit brigade and their mindless followers and has stood her ground. If only we had more like her.

Also my thoughts on a second refer3ndum are honestly very negative. There was sooooo many lies told last time and I simply do not trust either the media or politicians to tell the truth. Most people are not like people on this sort f thread and couldn’t care less about politics, but do vote, and if all the information they get is from tax evaders and loons being bankrolled by extremely dubious people, I think I would rather throw in my lot with parliament and trust that they act with integrity and for the good of the country rather than their political career.
