Let's not forget Brexit

I still feel that Brexit is wrong though have no idea how stop it. We get mixed messages on the negotiations, DD says that are going fine but the EU side says otherwise.

There was a protest in Manchester where Lib. Dems., European Movement. Open Britain and other groups made their feelings clear.

Our democracy and standard of living is under threat from dogmatism on both the left and the right.

Yes Day6, I did notice that 'Leaving the EU' has been pulled. I tentatively posted on it first thing this morning, but I don't think I was the cause of the 'pull'!!

Day6 Fri 20-Oct-17 12:56:02

From the Guardian. On Thursday morning, political allies of the German chancellor, Angela Merkel, confirmed that the EU wants the UK to agree to pay up to €100bn (£89.4bn) to settle the Brexit divorce bill.

89 BILLION........89 BILLION!!! Before Brussels will even consider a trade deal.

I see the Leaving the EU thread has been pulled because of personal insults.

We have to pull the plug on the EU because this is a divorce lawyers equivalent of pure spite and greed.

We will walk away with no deal and rightly so. Being held over a barrel by EU politicians is not on. We have made an a reasonable offer.

Now we are being held to ransom by Brussels,

No business man EVER would settle for a bad deal. Walk away very quickly Theresa May. WTO talks should begin asap.

Hardly surprising, quite apart from the abusive posts, the "End of the EU" is fake news, exactly the opposite of the truth which is that the EU is rising in popularity.

Day6 Fri 20-Oct-17 12:25:59

I expect you'll all have noticed the End of the EU thread has been pulled.

Interesting.

I thought you would find it interesting Jen. I thought the reasons why he felt Labour would be the only party 'with the moral authority' was interesting in that, if things look so bad, they can go to those areas in the North that thought things would get better out of the EU and explain where it would lead us.

Grrrrr! Even my corrects don’t make sense -bloody hell

whitewave Fri 20-Oct-17 10:23:37

But argue in to argue - must stop just bashing out these posts!!

I suppose I ought to correct government’s as well

Miller on television this morning “ The UK agreed with the programme on the progress of the Brexit negotiations, but have done nothing to argue against them since the start of the process” she laid the blame squarely on the governments intansigence as she said that we have excellent negotiators in Brussels.

It seems to me that they must be tearing their hair out with the way the Tories are behaving.

"Labour is the only party with the moral authority, along with the unions."
That'll please some.

"Tories will be annihilated."
A good interview, GracesGran, thanks for posting the link.
"May should really have gone after the election. It's not up to her when she goes. We are just waiting for the next crisis."

You might enjoy listening to this www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b098mty7 at about 1:38:00

It's an interview with Robert Harris of Fatherland fame - he has just brought out another book. The interview at this point picks up on his political journalist's point of view and it's really interesting - he thinks only Labour could stop Brexit.

You will have to sign in I'm afraid.

And for a good laugh, Mark Steel.

Telegraph says that Corbyn undermines UK's Brexit stance by saying there will be a deal.
That's the paper owned by the Barclay brothers, isn't it?

durhamjen Thu 19-Oct-17 22:35:51

138 more on since I copied that. Lots of people care, and are concerned about Tory economic failure.

Tegan what a thing with RR - I remember them saying how Brexit would impact jobs. I cannot understand how people still think Brexit is a good idea! Job losses seem to be in skilled jobs - engineering, Banks and car manufacturing etc- the type it is more difficult to replace.
Greta what Tegan says is so very true - a majority of people in UK have no wish to see EU nationals repatriated. It is ridiculous and for years UK welcomed people of all sorts of nationalities - Polish people and Jews during and after the war etc and Hungarians in the 50s and many others. What really annoys me is that when the UK is short of labour - such as people to work on Public Transport they advertise abroad for people to fill the jobs and then make it difficult for them to live happy lives in UK.
I hope UK comes to its senses and the U.K. becomes a welcoming place again.

mostlyharmless Thu 19-Oct-17 19:40:36

Corbyn said the government is "painting itself into a corner as the party of 'no deal'".

whitewave Thu 19-Oct-17 19:38:22

Good

mostlyharmless Thu 19-Oct-17 19:37:41

Sky news had an item on Corbyn's speech and an interview with him in the last half hour.
