The Tory party may want to keep the lie of Tory economic literacy going but much of the Thatcher era -held high particularly by the free-market capitalists - is now history and being reviewed as that and it isn't showing up well.

It would pay the Tories to remember that everyone in Russia felt that communism was their saviour and, indeed, the extremely poor did have slightly better lives - but that fell apart didn't it. Any system that is not nimble will always go into decline and, sadly, I do not get a picture of nimble Tories.

According to the financial editor of the FT, on twitter this morning, this is old news. It relates to a revision of figures by the Office of National Statistics and has nothing to do with Brexit
